Formatting of Links in Direct Press Releases
-
I have been looking around but not found any great suggestions.
If we send out a direct press release to a journalist, eg to their email address, what is the best format to send it in (eg word, pdf, rtf, html)?
Also, if it was to be sent out as a pdf or word doc, is there a good way to put links in there to increase the chance of them putting a keyword link in the article if it was to be published on their site? Would a hyperlink in there be confusing or is that ok?

"A hyperlink in word can easily be stripped out by someone and then it is not clear what the link was to or what words it was on."
Personally in my opinion this is the nature of the beast... If you give good relevant links that help the authenticity of the article, then the poster, will not have as much inclination to remove the hyperlink...
But if it is obviously trying to be an SEO Anchor text link, then you run the risk of it being removed as this is not the aim of a link in a press release... A link should be informational and not self serving (or not seem self serving

Hi,
Just as a personal opinion placing a self serving SEO link in the first paragraph is sort of bad ettiqute, and could possibly affect your distribution, as well as readability. But of course this is an age old battle as he is correct, a link higher up has more ability to be indexed and possibly pass rank.
I would also attempt to not concentrate on "placing" SEO links, but actually find relevant and helpful ways to place anchor text, as in the future just placing random and obvious anchor texts that "sort of" make sense will loose more and more "steam"

Yes you are right Of course on PDF file the link will be more secured, but it is not comfortable to adjust the text there. So the best option still will be MS word, the when the editing will be finished, you can convert the doc into PDF.
I am sure you know that you can't simply copy the text from PDF on website because text in MS word has hidden coding and it might mess your HTML!

Hi Russel,
Thanks for your help. I understand the points that you have mentioned. However, it is not easy and there is a lot of room for error when using word.
A hyperlink in word can easily be stripped out by someone and then it is not clear what the link was to or what words it was on.

Dear Edward,
I will suggest you to keep the docs in Word format, because this is the easiest format for adjusting the text and adding the hyperlinks!
Also make sure that your article doesn't have more than 3 links, because then your article might not bring any value for SEO. Meanwhile the recent research shows that the highest value will bring the link located in the first paragraph! So if you have for ex. the keyword "Roller skates", try to locate this anchor text with the link in the first paragraph.
Hope it will make sense to you,
Cheers,
Russel

Link Building
I'm having difficulty creating a solid link base. I would prefer to only have links that are on relevant sites that are likely to drive traffic rather then just adding my company page to site directories. I've checked out the whiteboard Friday edition of link building and have also used the new Moz analytics that helps recommend sites to link to, but all the recommendations were directories. So, could anyone hold my hand and guide me through the world of Link building? Your help, as always, is much appreciated. Thanks everyone Dave

I want to design SEO link building strategy for my website? Is wordpress.com, squidoo, tumblr, blogger, typepad - Good option for link building?
I am currently concentrating on 8 keywords, for e.g (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H). I will be writing blogs with 2 of any related keywords present in it. I am thinking to post 5 blogs on 5 different platforms as (wordpress.com, Squidoo, Typepad, Tumblr, blogger) respectively. I am thinking a strategy as: Monday: Keyword A,B on Wordpress/ C,D on Squidoo/E,F on Typepad/G,H on Blogger/ A,C on Tumblr. Tuesday:C,D on Wordpress/E,F on Squidoo/ etc.... and will rotate these keywords through out the week and the cycle restarts on Monday. The URL for every keyword will be different and relevant to that keyword. I need quick suggestion on this topic..Please..

Link Management Software
Hi everyone, I'm new to SEOMoz Pro, but have been reading articles on this website forever! I'm looking for a software to help me organize links I've built, including (genuine) comments I've posted on blogs, forums, links from directories, articles or other websites. I'm not talking about automated directory submission software or some other shady submission software. All I need is a software that could help me organize all these links and check if the link is still there from time to time. One of the feature I'd like to have is the ability to retrieve page related information such as domain age, PR, incoming links on page, outgoing links on page and the theme relevance of each of these links. Any good recommendation?

Penguin Recover: Remove links vs Burry Links
The best is to do both. However with those with limited resources, would building more links with branded and naked URL anchor links be a better solution than painstakingly asking every webmaster to remove links.

Press Releases Weekly
Hello, I know this has been answered in the past but we have been doing press releases multiple times per week, and have been getting Great referrals, at the same time our link count is climbing. Can this have a negative effect on the overall site? Should we be doing these less often? Thanks very much!!!

Blog traffic / link ratio? (Esimated of how much traffic will result in a link)
Hi, Was wondering if people could please tell me some estimates of how much traffic is likely to gain links to a blog post? For example 1,000 hits = 1 link, Hence 10,000 hits = 10 links to a blog post? I understand there is no magic ratio I just want to know what people have achieved. I’m after averages not just a one off really successful blog post too. Please specify the topic you achieve this in e.g. SEO, photography, business, heath... etc.

Value of Inbound Links to Pages With a lot of Outbound Links
Suppose you have a resource page of the Top 50 Awesome Sites in your niche. Since there are about 50 outbound links, then I would think there will be less Page Rank being passed to internal pages from internal links on the resource page. Since you are getting less PR passed to internal pages, are there other ways the inbound links can be beneficial, such as increasing the diversity of links of your domain? Sites like SEO Optimise seem to create a lot of Top 30 Resources lists and I have read that they think it is a strong tactic.
