How does it take after getting links discovered by google to see increase in rankings?
-
Five of my friends linked to my site from their website and updated their sites through Google Webmaster tools right after linking to my site. Though the Google spider crawled the site as soon as they updated their pages, it still took about three weeks for my site to get a bump in the serps from their links. Why does it take that long for links to kick in and what is the average time it normally takes to see an increase in ranking from links once Google discovers them?
Thanks mozzers!
Ron

I think you have to consider the scale of the enterprise; it's easy to think of Google as being some kind of video game that responds to your input as soon as you make it (note to self: make Video Game about SEO. Possible titles: Link Awakening, The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past). Also consider the number of links you're talking about; I'm surprised you saw any movement for just five links.
To me, Google's response (including time it takes them to notice) to a link is kind of ineffable. Charles' advice is pretty good. If you're solely concentrating on number of links and what affect they'll have you might be doing the wrong kind of SEO.

In my experience it has taken about 2-4 weeks to see noticeable results after winning a good number of high quality links. It really varies depending on your niche and competition. Wil Reynolds from Seer Interactive talks about a client who received links from highly authoritative sites but saw no improvement in rankings. Other times you will see a site with a bunch of spammy links skyrocket to the first position. My approach is to just create the best content on the web so you deserve to outrank your competitors and your chances of improving rankings in the long run will be maximized.

How To Encourage Google To Discover Links?
I got a valuable backlink from a high authority website (MSN), but the link is placed in the middle of a slideshow with 20 pictures, and the only way to reach it is by clicking through the slideshow. After 6 months, this link still hasn't been noticed by Moz or Semrush, and I assume Google hasn't seen it either, because it's in the middle of a slideshow. Is there any way to encourage Google to find this link? Or am I all out of luck?

How long does it take Google to remove links after using disavow tool?
Hi guys, So we're currently in the process of removing some of the less useful and more suspect links from our profile, and used the Google disavow tool to do so. We uploaded the .txt file to the search console on 7th July this year, 2 months ago now, and according to our most recent site crawl, the suspect links are still showing up on our link profile. Do we have any idea how long this is roughly supposed to take? The ideas I've found online are conflicting - anything from 3-4 weeks to 6-9 months. Which is it? Is there any way of fast-tracking this process? Thanks!

Best Blog Post Length to get Links
Okay, kind of silly question but i am looking for some help interpreting an analysis done by John Doherty almost a year ago: http://moz.com/blog/what-kind-of-content-gets-links-in-2012 In the document he mentions the correlation that longer posts on average receive more links but the graphs were really hard to interpret (for me). Based on the data what is the correct size we should shoot for (most graphs were missing labels). Any one have any insight? Should i shoot for 300 words per post, higher, etc? Thanks! Kyle

How Long Does It Take For opensiteexplorer.org To Find Links Ive Been Building?
Hello, The past 1-2 months I managed to get a website on some high authority news sources. For some reason I still cannot see them with opensiteexplorer, but they are showing up in the Webmaster account? Is there typically a big delay? Thanks1

Link velocity - still a significant ranking factor?
We have recently taken over the SEO for a site which had a pretty poor back link profile, lots of comment links, directories etc. Although the quality of the link was very questionable, the previous SEO were maintaining a decent link velocity. Obviously I have no intention of carrying on with spammy crap links, and am looking to build some good fresh content. This will obviously slow down the link velocity quite considerably, is that in itself likely to hurt SERPs? Thanks in advance

What can I do to increase this page's rank
I have this page that is doing alright for the phrase "skyward sword walkthrough" I used to be ranked number 2 but it has dropped http://legendzelda.net/skyward-sword-walkthrough/ Sites like IGN are huge so I do not blame them for overpassing my rank but zelda informer I feel like I should be outranking at least. I have a fairly good on page ranking grade using the seomoz tool. And the OSE shows I have 11 domains linking - most with some kind of variation to that keyword. And I have actually built out more since then. Most the links are on highly relevant pages. I contacted a lot of gaming sites before this game was released and asked for a link back in exchange for a variety of things (shoutouts mostly - no paid links) The page performed extremely well when Skyward Sword came out and I got hundreds of thousands of hits but as my rank is beginning to drop its a lot less (also can be attributed to hype dying down). But any suggestions or glaring issues would be great. Link building is something I am always doing as well - mostly through guest blogging.

Huge increase in rank ..
Hi Today I went from 8th to 1st place for my main keywork ( barneklær) childrens clothing in norwegian . Ive been trying to link build regularly. Last couple of weeks ive gotten links from a few catalogues and some blogs and I by no means expected a rank increase like this. Ive tried to look them up to understand why this happened - but i cant understand it. Any ideas as to how i can find out. I just dont want to drop 7 spots again without knowing what happened .. Sites URL www.epleskrinet.no if that can help . Thanks Dan Lærum
