Press Release- Is it worth it?
-
I have seen a lot of Press Releases used to generate links. Is this a tactic that is worth it? If so what are the best sites to use for the PR? Any suggestions or examples?
I am more than willing to do PRs; i just want to be able to focus my effort on things that will have a return.
Thanks!!

In my experience, the best return you get is when you send your press release to individual editors/influencers. I have used PR Web, but have not found nearly as much value as actually contacting individual editors. Time consuming? Yes. But we've gotten some great press/links back.

I've run into problems with news releases getting lots of inbound links and then ranking higher/better than core pages that I'd rather have ranking for similar subject matter/keywords.

Are Sidebar Backlinks worth for SEO?
Hello! Let's use the following example: I have a blog (let's call it Blog A) and I find another blog in the same niche (this will be Blog B) that has higher DA and PA than mine. Will Google penalize me if the Blog B puts a link to my blog in their sidebar? Remember, the Blog A and Blog B are from the same niche. I ask this because Google says that links on sidebars appears in every page and in some pages the link may be useless. But if both blogs are from the same niche, there won't be pages where the links will be from different themes and with less relevance. So, is my thought correct: we can use sidebar links without caring about penalization ONLY if the blogs are from the same niche? Thanks in advance!

Quote + Link from Associated Press
So almost everyone here has talked about the marvel (for a small business like me, at least) that is HARO. Recently, I was quoted in a story that was written by the Associated Press, by responding to a HARO inquiry. (story resides on their site here in case you want to look). So looking at it with a critical mindset, is this a glorified press release at this point (the thing shows up virtually everywhere since after all, it was written by the AP). Should I be expecting any SEO help from this?

I have well over 110 identical backlinks of widely varying quality - is it worth taking the page they're linking to down?
The site on which I'm working has been experiencing a month-to-month decline since the Panda and Penguin updates - I didn't get an unnatural links notification, but have clearly fallen off the face of Google with many of the more important rankings. After running a scan on my backlinks, I found over 110 identical backlinks (it looks like the same medical definition and my website is listed in the endnotes as a source - just the URL, not anchor text), some from reputable websites with high pageranks and others that look very 'spammy.' We've redesigned the architecture of the site, so the actual link itself has a 301 redirect on it, but I'm just wondering exactly how much of a liability is it to have these links out there? I'm guessing it's an all or nothing kind of thing given the identical content on each page - on one hand, I'm pretty frantic to get to the root of the Google penalties and get back in their good graces. On the other hand, I don't want to kill the site completely by going after a set of valuable links. Has anyone dealt with this before?

What are inbound links worth after Panda and Penguin, since a site ranks for the NATIONAL keyword "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS!?!?
ARE INBOUND LINKS TODAY ALMOST WORTHLESS??!!? After having been the KING of SEO, down to the toilet? Today I got a great sample from a fellow SEO professional showing a site, rockymountainfurniture.com rank for "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS FROM 3 DOMAINS and a domain trust of 14!!!! ON A NATIONAL, VALUABLE, HIGH QUERY VOLUME KEYWORD!! I was stunned, but is this the "NEW SEO WORLD" we live in, so we should skip spending hundreds of hours on link building? There are over 32 different types of inbound links but this is much MORE than a radical change, this is turning SEO as it was up-side-down. Any input, thoughts, ideas?

Sitewide VS Editorial page, wich one is worth the most?
Hello fellow SEOMozzers, For a long time I've been wondering what would give the most SEO benefits for a keyword based query between these : 1. A sitewide footer link on SiteA with keyword anchor text to SiteB homepage 2. A sitewide footer link on SiteA with brand name to SiteB homepage 3. A single link on SiteA homepage to SiteB homepage 4. An editorial page on SiteA about SiteB with links to homepage and deep pages Did someone ever did that kind of experiments? Is anyone having better results with one kind of link strategy? Best regards,

Are old links worth more juice?
In the last week and a half at a couple of shows in London, and including today on SEOmoz Q&A, I've heard polarised opinions on this topic, so thought I'd throw it out there to see what other people think, and what evidence/experience people have with this. Basically - some people are saying older links are worth less than new links, and others are saying old link are worth don't devalue and are possibly worth more. I have to admit, I don't have a strong opinion on this, as it is really hard to judge on live projects, and I think it is a case by case thing. Any thoughts?
