How do I start trying to get links from blogs
-
Do I just find blogs websites that are in the same topical area and ask them can i link back?
-
Thanks for answers. My question was a bit unclear as I realise it is better to have links coming from blog websites back to my website and not reciprocal links. Some good points Moosa. My website is on accommodation so maybe I need to find blogs on travel websites and try to post good value guest posts on places to visit and the best places to stay.
Im a bit unclear about the competition idea. (point 2). Can you clarify a bit more please?

Careful here. I heard Matt Cutts say this was misinterpreted. He says reciprocal link that are bad are between non-related sites and normally link directories.
I do some reciprocal linking ONLY between highly relevant sites.

Reciprocal links don't hold as much power as 1 way links from their site to yours, so Moosa's suggestions are a better route. If you find blogs in your niche, you could also build your reputation through commenting on these blogs. It could provide traffic through readers realizing you are another good resource on the topic.

I don’t find your idea as very smart but 1st part of your move is right! You have to find niche related blogs and bloggers and you have to contact them, but directly asking them to link back to you didn’t make any sense to me unless you have some great Authority and Value in your Niche.
There are several ways you can get Link to the targeted blogs:
1. Offer them a Guest Posting
Simple but You actually have to write 500+ words of detailed and well researched post just to get a single link or may be 2 pointing it on your website.
2. Run a Contest for Bloggers in your Niche
If your budget is high then offering a competition for bloggers and then through badges and other stuff you can get a link pointing to your website (most badges usually get site wide links)
3. Create Infographics and Email them
Another idea is to create infographics on your site and email them the update about it. If the piece of graphic will be informative and well designed, chances are that they will link back to you!
4. Interviews
Try and target influencers in your niche and Interview them and post it on your own blog. As they are influencers so chances are that you will get lots of natural links to your site (depending upon the fame of the influencer and blog itself!)
These are just few of the ideas! Link Building is way too big and the only boundary to link building is your own personal imagination!

Sitewide links
Hi there, We operate about a dozen websites that are part of the same parent company. All these websites are in the same vertical, and link among each other in the footer section. The anchor for each link is the brand name, so we are merely doing it to show what other products the parent company has to offer. My question is: do you think this is still advisable, or it might trigger a penalty? Also, what would you choose between: Sitewide footer links from each site to the other sites. A single footer link on the homepage from each site to the other sites. A presentation page on each website, one click away from the homepage, which presents the company's other websites. Thanks.

Is are Scoopon type sites a good place to get a link?
We have noticed that our competitors have links with equality from sites like this: http://www.groupon.com.au/ Scoopon type sites like this can be an effective way to generate sales for a business, I'm just wondering if these types of sites also have added value for SEO as sites like these do have a strong Domain Authority? Any thoughts on this subject would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Internal Linking - Post links vs Side Bar Links behaving differently
Hi, I have a question regarding the internal linking behavior. My website is www.hindimeaning.com which is approx 3 years old. I have approx 450 posts. Now i have a widget on right sidebar "Popular posts". A widget below my posts "Related Posts". And a simple html CSS menu above the posts (I removed menu around 6 month before so currently it will not show.) I crawled my site with moz crawler (same are the result from google crawler as well) and it shows menus links as internal links. While sidebar widget "Popular posts" and "Related Posts" are not showing as internal links. If we talk theoretically what i learn till now is "every link on a page behaves as internal link". Then why the widget links are not showing as internal links. Thanks, Mahesh Kumar

Can you get "link juice" from an outside company's/organization's intranet?
Will you get the same "link juice benefits" from a University, Government Org, or public company's intranet that are linked to your webpages – vs the benefits that you would get from links from their public webpages? Assume that the external webpages have very high Domain Authority, MozRank/Trust etc.

Many competitor's backlinks are in content anchor links. Ho do I get these same links?
Hi I managed to open up OSE. I'm finding that much of the competition's backlinks are in content anchor text links. Am I supposed to get backlinks from these same pages using the same anchor text but linking back to my page or is that allowed? If so, how do I get these in content blog post links? Thanks. Sunil.

Will No Follow Links count toward your root domain links for Domain Authority?
I am wondering if no follow links help, hurt, or do nothing when it comes to increasing page and domain authority? I know they are not supposed to pass rank and I have read discussions that some people suspect they still might, but I am wondering if I have a mix of follow plus no follow, will the no follow ones increase the count of the root domains linking to me and help boost my authority? Assuming of course the no follow links are coming from quality sites with high page and domain authority of their own. Thanks.

What percentage of my links should be directory links
I feel a lot of my link building might be a bit heavy on the directory links side. Should I limit the percentage amount of links as a part of my overall link profile? If yes what percentage of links is ok to be directory links?
