Submitting a new sitemap index file. Only one file is getting read. What is the error?
-
Hi community,
I am working to submit a new a new sitemap index files, where about 5 50,000 sku files will be uploaded. Webmasters is reporting that only 50k skus have been submitted.
Google Webmasters is accepting the index, however only the first file is getting read. I have 2 errors and need to know if this is the reason that the multiple files are not getting uploaded.
Errors:
| 1 | | Warnings | Invalid XML: too many tags | Too many tags describing this tag. Please fix it and resubmi |
| 2 | | Warnings | Incorrect namespace | Your Sitemap or Sitemap index file doesn't properly declare the namespace. | 1 |
Here is the url I am submitting: http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-sitemap-index.xml

thank you,
I grabbed this and put into a text file for my developer to see and it and have made sense of your corrections.

The forum is butchering my formatting, but I hope you get the idea.

Try changing the first line of your index file to:
<sitemapindex xmlns="http: www.sitemaps.org="" schemas="" sitemap="" 0.9"=""></sitemapindex xmlns="http:>
That should get rid of the second warning. For the first warning, you are not using enough <sitemap>tags, you need to encapsulate each of the <loc>tags in one, so your sitemap should look like:</loc></sitemap>
<sitemapindex xmlns="http: www.sitemaps.org="" schemas="" sitemap="" 0.9"=""></sitemapindex xmlns="http:><sitemap></sitemap>http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-products01.xml.gz<sitemap></sitemap>http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-products02.xml.gz<sitemap></sitemap>http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-brands01.xml.gz<sitemap></sitemap>http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-categories01.xml.gz<sitemap></sitemap>http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-content-pages01.xml.gz<sitemap></sitemap>http://www.westmarine.com/sitemap/wm-commerce-pages01.xml.gz

Removing a site from Google index with no index met tags
Hi there! I wanted to remove a duplicated site from the google index. I've read that you can do this by removing the URL from Google Search console and, although I can't find it in Google Search console, Google keeps on showing the site on SERPs. So I wanted to add a "no index" meta tag to the code of the site however I've only found out how to do this for individual pages, can you do the same for a entire site? How can I do it? Thank you for your help in advance! L

Index problems
“The website http://www.vaneyckshutters.com/nl/ does not show in the index of Google (site:vaneyckshutters.com/nl/). This must be the homepage in the Netherlands. Previously, the page www.vaneyckshutters.com was redirected to /nl/. This page is accessible now with a canonical tag to http://www.vaneyckshutters.com/nl/ in the hope to let /nl/ be indexed. When we look at the SERPS for keyword ‘shutters’, the page http://www.vaneyckshutters.com/ is shown in Google.nl on #32 and in Belgium #3. Problem & question: Why is it that /nl/ has not been indexed properly and why is it that we rank with http://www.vaneyckshutters.com on ‘shutters’ instead the/nl/ page?”

Sitemap as Referrer in Crawl Error Report
I have just downloaded the SEOMoz crawl error report, and I have a number of pages listed which all show FALSE. The only common denominator is the referrer - the sitemap. I can't find anything wrong, should I be worried this is appearing in the error report?

Get rid of a large amount of 404 errors
Hi all, The problem:Google pointed out to me that I have a large increase of 404 errors. In short I had software before that created pages (automated) for long tale search terms and feeded them to google. Recently I quit this service and all those pages (about 500000) were deleted. Now google GWM points out about 800000 404 errors. What I noticed: I had a large amount of 404's before when I changed my website. I fixed it (proper 302) and as soon as all the 404's in GWM were gone I had around 200 visitors a day more. It seems that a clean site is better positioned. Anybody any suggestion on how to tell google that all urls starting with www.domain/webdir/ should be deleted from cache?

Prospective new client it by webspam looking for new resource
Background:
Technical SEO | | tcmktg
Prospective client recently hit by webspam update. (I have verified hundreds of low-quality links, porn links, backlink exchanges etc.) They want us to step in and remove bad links and start over. Question:
What is the best way to examine all the links to determine which need to be removed? We can create the report from open site, but how can we identify the bad links? Here are the site metrics. 5000+ linking domains, so in this example we need to research the 5000 links, and possibly send notifications to thousands of webmasters to remove the links? Open site states about 25,000 total links, but root links are shown below. Yikes. Domain Authority 75
External Followed Links 112,000
Total External Links 115,000
Total Links 150,000,
Followed Linking Root Domains 3,900
Total Linking Root Domains 5,300

Submitting Sitemap File vs Sitemap Index File
Is it better to submit all sitemap files contained in a Sitemap Index File manually to Google or is it about the same as just submitting the Master Sitemap Index File.

De-indexing thin content & Panda--any advantage to immediate de-indexing?
We added the nonidex, follow tag to our site about a week ago on several hundred URLs, and they are still in Google's index. I know de-indexing takes time, but I am wondering if having those URLs in the index will continue to "pandalize" the site. Would it be better to use the URL removal request? Or, should we just wait for the noindex tags to remove the URLs from the index?
