Should press releases be posted on my site before released to wire?
-
Should I wait until my press release has been syndicated to post to my press page. If I post it to my press page first, will it cause a duplication problem?
-
I regularly post new 200 level pages to my site, so I guess I'm most interested in getting new links. However, I do see the point that Alan is making as well. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to answer this.

Agreed.
We might not have been too much help for Brad, but we might have convinced him that he shouldn't be overly concerned with his final choice.

Interesting concept Anthony. The notion that it's ultimately all duplicate content though reinforces my own perspective I think, simply because those inbound links are not overwhelmingly strong, I figure the site might as well get its own "fresh content" bonus out of the deal, since press releases are really about creating / building brand identity as much as anything, and less for "high quality inbound links".
Ultimately I think we both have valid points so it could go either way.

Hi Brad,
I'd actually take the opposite position of Alan. I would distribute the press release first and then post it to your site a bit later. I see press releases ability to build external links as one of their biggest values. If there is a concern for duplication, I'd rather have the external postings of the release 'count' in the eyes of google as opposed to the internal.
I wouldn't worry too much about it either way though. Press releases are posted and reposted all over the web, and that's just the way it goes.
Your press release should be linking to important content on your site. It's unlikely that the brief content on the PR would be a significant source of organic traffic for your own site, opposed to the content the release is actually writing about and linking to.
The only time I would do it the other way around, would be if I was creating a PR for a company that is popular and newsworthy no matter what. If SEOmoz had a press release, it would make sense to post it on their own site first because people within the industry are going to find it and link to it, therefore creating many more external links to their actual domain.
Long story short, in my opinion, new/small website should submit first. Big/popular website should post on their own site first.

Brad,
I recommend posting it to your own site first then waiting a bit to distribute. On that page, I'd include a Google "original source" tag. http://www.google.com/support/news_pub/bin/answer.py?answer=191283
By doing it this way, you help to ensure that your version has the best chance of being credited properly. It's not a guarantee - as most challenges in SEO are not, however it's what I recommend to clients because it's the best anyone can do.

Does CloudFlare Benefit my site?
I am using the $20 / month CloudFlare service. My site is not running faster, so my question is: is this service adding real value? I do not have a lot of highly sensitive customer data (some email addresses and customer names and nothing more - no credit cards). I am already using Amazon Cloud Server and it appears to work fine. Any thoughts appreciated.

Site is not ranking for a particular keyword !!
One of my site is ranking for all the main keywords except one. This keyword is just a variant of those keywords which are all ranking in top 10 (page 1) in Google. Why is it happening? Does Google punishes site for one keyword. I know competition of keyword matters but other keywords with similar competition are ranking. And even the site is very well optimized for this keyword (titles and site copy without any stuffing) Any Solutions ?

Duplicate Content - Meta Data for International Site Roll Out
Hi All, We have a site targeting Ireland, so all on-page SEO is completed and launched on the Irish site. We are now rolling out this site to the UK...how much of this content & SEO meta data has to be changed for Google to not recognise it as duplicate content? Site structure is as follows: http://www.domain.com/ie-en/ - Irish site http://www.domain.com/uk-en/ - UK site Or will it even be considered duplicate content as we have the uk and Irish signals in the subfolders, will be using geo targeting on webmasters, and will have UK specific addresses and phone numbers? We will be rolling this site out to may more countries so would be great to get this straight from the start so we don't waste time creating many versions of the meta data unnecessarily! Many thanks Emma

Sudden Site Rankings Drop
Good day guys, We have been following strict SEO strategies for the past 6 months, all sites have been improving incredibly well, all except one. The site in question is http://bit.ly/IH4pkM . The site is regarding automotive spray booth equipment. We were ranking on the first page for the keyword "spray booth" (which is the most important one), at place #4 for weeks on end. However since half-way last week, the site has been dropped to half-way the second page (#17). There are barely any crawler errors listed for our campaign on SEOMoz. There were several pages of which the meta description was missing, but that has been fixed earlier this week. When it comes to link building, I looked at what the top competitors were doing, and was looking for unique link building opportunities myself. We have received 0 webmaster tools warnings as well. I do not believe we are penalized due to the "penguin" update. After all, if you search for for the company's name in Google, it is still listed on there (# 2). Nor have we been part of dodgy link networks at all. So my question is, what do you guys believe made us drop the rankings? Is there some on-page issues I am overlooking? Any recommendations to restore out previous rankings? Kind Regards, Roderic

Why is our site dropping in Domain Authority
Hi all, I have a question. I have been working SEO on our site www.betxpert.com for the last 4-6 weeks and I have been looking forward to seeing the new DA and PA numbers. However today, our DA is now 30...where it was 31 or 33 a couple of days ago. How come the decrease? I have only improved the site i should say... Hope someone can shed a little light on the issue... -Rasmus

Can embedding videos from other sites help SEO?
I work for an eCommerce site and many of the vendors we get our products from have videos our their site that explain how the products work and the different features of them, ect. We really have done nothing with video marketing, and would like to create some of our own unique videos, but this will be impossible for the vast majority of the products on our site. We know from a content standpoint embedding videos from our vendors to our product pages will be beneficial, but at the same time it shows our competitors and other site visitors where we are getting our products from which we would rather not do. How will this effect us from an SEO standpoint though? Will it help us to have new content, even though it is embedded from another site? Or will it hurt us because it is not unique? Or will it have no effect at all? Thanks for you help!
