Low Page Authority for key landing pages
-
Hi guys - I am struggling to understand why I have a Page Authority of 1 (!) for most of my key product landing pages.
All of them are linked to directly from the Homepage, which has PA 46 and DA 40. Many of them are also linked to from high ranking external sites.
Less valuable pages on the site, with far fewer links, seem to have much higher PA.
For some reason these just don't seem to be registering the link juice which is flowing to them. In fact, OSE doesn't seem to register any links for them - perhaps this is the biggest clue?
I am at a bit of a loss. Some of these pages still rank highly for relevant keywords on Google. But something clearly isn't quite right.
Has anyone experienced similar?

Thank you - very helpful

For me, the pages loaded pretty quick. I've run much slower sites through OSE and it's returned values, so don't think you have a problem there. Hopefully, when OSE recrawls the /Browse and figures out that those pages redirects, then your page authority will be passed on. This seems to be what's happened with TheGuardian.com /TheGuardian.co.uk rebrand.
You could try using Moz's crawl tool to see if you can help speed up the process? The tool is here: https://mza.seotoolninja.com/researchtools/crawl-test. This method is recommended in the following thread: http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-force-seomoz-to-re-crawl-my-website

Many thanks for this
It's a strange on as the pages (if not the URLs) are over a year old and this is not a new problem. That said, I'm still interested in thoughts about Moz and how it deals with 301s, sure there might be some clues there.
In the meantime I'll wait and see. Another thought was that page speed might be an issue.

Sometimes Moz can be a little slow on metrics like this for new pages. Have you tried running your pages through OSE to find out if Moz has discovered these pages?
Sneaky edit: Sorry, I should ask this first: How long have your pages been live?
Sneaky, sneaky edit: Sorry (again!). If this query relates to the URL listed in your bio, I think I know what's happening. It looks like some of your product landing pages have changed URLs recently and /Browse 301s to the new /Top locations.
If you check the /Browse URLs, you'll see that Moz has got some PA data for these old URLs, it might just take the crawler a while to spot the 301. Usually Moz will show a notice saying that the old URL (in your instance /Browse) redirects to a new location, and as it's not showing when I use OSE on the example /Browse URL, I'm guessing it hasn't picked it up yet. Someone else might also be able to weigh in on how Moz passes PA/DA on 301s.
If this isn't related to your bio URL, well I've just written a paragraph of nonsense. We'll see!

Getting backlinks on a page using https
Our company got a backlink on a page with high DA but using https (https://developer.apple.com/internationalization/) more than 2 months ago. However, this particular backlink was never counted by Open Site Explorer or other backlink checker. I've contacted the Moz Helpdesk and they said they are having issues crawling https sites. So I'm wondering if anything I can do to make sure this backlink gets counted? Thanks.

Should I request backlinks to use anchor text that is page specific?
I work for a community college, with fairly high seo for the college in general. We have no budget for advertising specific programs, so we are trying to optimize individual pages on the website, e.g., physical therapy assistant, welding, etc. Does it make a difference if other websites use our main url, college name, or the college name plus specific program as the anchor text? Also, I'm seeing some posts here recommending to avoid lots of directory listings. I assume that doesn't apply to industry specific directories, like nursing school directories, right? I'm still a very new newbie and appreciate your advice.

Example of good author page for guest posting
Hello, A client of mine is looking to guest post on other sites. What's an example of a good Author page that is working well. We're interested in knowing what to put on this page, and if the author page should be in the main navigation of my client's website. Thanks!

1 Domain - 2 Links Pointing to 2 Different Pages
Hi Guys, I wonder if you can give me any pointers: We have an exact match domain name that is ranking #5 for our main keyword and is getting some good traffic through the site. We have just created a landing page for another keyword with fresh content that will be updated every week. The question is, I've been building links to my domain name and I'm just wondering if we built another link from 1 of the sites we already have a link on and point it to this new landing page would this help it rank better or not? Hope the above makes sense. Thanks, Scott

Quick Wins and 'Low Hanging Fruit' - how do I identify them?
Hello, I have fairly recently taken up a position as an in-house SEO, having previously had my own (not terribly successful) ecommerce venture, so my SEO experience is at beginner level. I have read a LOT in coming up with a strategy (Laura Lippay's 8 Step Strategy, amongst so much more on here, has been epic), and have come up with something fairly comprehensive. However, it's taken me months! This is partyly due to other non-SEO responsibilities, and partly due to finding my way around all the tools & resources available, how everything fits together and what should be prioritised over what. This is massively inefficient for future projects, or indeed if I ever got a job in agency, and so I need to get quicker/more productive. I keep reading about identifying and capitalising on 'low hanging fruit' - how does one go about this? Details would be hugely appreciated - starting from the bottom up, i.e. keyword research, competitive & backlink analysis, link building etc. For the record, I have zero coding capabilities (something I plan to rectify one day soon) and so my strategy revolves primarily around content and outreach, rather changing site architecture. In any case, our website seems well put together, since new content is indexed very quickly. Thanks so much in advance, Ali (UK)

Value of a Wikipedia page
Is there any value in creating a Wikipedia page for a company then placing a link from a Wikipedia article that is focused on a service or type of product that the company offers? I was recently searching for topics related to a companies services on Wikipedia and found some of our competitors had links within the article to their very own Wikipedia pages. Companies Wikipedia page contained a link to the companies website.

Value of Linkworthy Resource Pages
Suppose you create a great resource that links to the top 50 blogs in your industry. The blogs in your industry love it and many of them link to that page. How valuable are those inbound links? I would think some factors hurting the value of these links are that they are not pointing to an important page on your site like the home page or main category page, and the 50 links on the page dilutes the linkjuice that is passed back to the homepage. Or is the main value in making the domain's link equity stronger?

Links from low PA pages on high DA sites... What effect do they have?
My company's website has inbound links from very high DA websites (LinkedIn 96, Yelp 91, etc.) but from pages with very low PA (1). These low PA pages are the company listings pages. In the case of Linked In, there are several products/services listed with ideal anchor text to the relevant pages on our site. How do these links effect our overall ranking and trust, and why aren't they listed when I use OSE to analyze my pages? Thanks!
