Desktop vs. Mobile Results
-
When googling on www.google.ca for "wedding invitations" and in my own geo location market of Toronto, my site - www.stephita.com, will show up differently on SERP on desktop (Chrome & IE) vs. mobile (iPad, iPhone, android, etc.).
On desktop SERP, I will show up 6/7 position... (which is relatively a new position, the past 3 weeks - I was previously on page 2) (After a bunch of SEO fixes, I've managed to propel my site back to page 1!)
On mobile SERP, I only show up on 1/2 position on PAGE 2
As I mentioned above, I did a bunch of SEO fixes that I think were related to Panda/Penguin algos. So I'm wondering why my MOBILE SERP has NOT improved along the way? What should I be looking at to fix this 5-6 position differential?
Thanks all!

So I used the Google PageSpeed Insights to get a better idea:
I'm somewhat technically saavy, but I can't seem to wrap my brain on HOW TO Enable Compression fix???
Do you happen to have a "simple example" of what needs to be done? I understand the concept of having a compressed file will save on bandwidth etc... But am I literally "gzipping" the files like "jquery.js"... but how does the HTML code work etc.. Any straight forward example you could possibly show me?
Same with ENABLING CACHE... My site is done w/ PHP, so i thought sending a simple HEADER command like so:
header("Cache-Control: max-age=2592000");
would suffice... but the pagespeed insight still says, the following elements: which are jpgs, css files, js files that my "www.stephita.com" index file references... Am I doing the Cache statement correct, by putting it on the INDEX.PHP page? Or do I somehow have to literally have to reference each jpg/css/js file that the PageSpeed insight is saying needs something done? Again, examples?
I appreciate any help on this matter

Tyson, Google's mobile and desktop algorithms are different--so that's why you're seeing different results. As Ruben mentioned, there may be mobile issues that you can fix or optimize for, which will help your site rank better in the mobile search results.
I took a look at the results for your site in Google's Mobile test https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ and it's mobile friendly, but the WebPageTest.org results show that it definitely needs to be cached--you should set up a CDN such as CloudFlare in order to cache the pages on the site.

One major reason might be your mobile score according to pagespeed insights. When I put your site in, your mobile page was a 50/100. Your desktop was 64/100 - which is not good - but still better than 50.
If you have the capability - or can hire someone who does - implement the suggestions on pagespeed insights. Enable compression, leverage browswer caching, etc, and I bet that will help close the gap, at least some.
Best,
Ruben

How to find Topics ? software or results and user intent
Hello, Is there a software that is better than an other to find to right topics to cover in my content. I am thinking about Moz, Marketmuse or Semrush or is it better to look at the search results because they match user intent and see what is covered and cover those in my content Thank you,

HTTP vs HTTPS duplication where HTTPS is non-existing
Hey Guys, **My site is **http://www.citymetrocarpetcleaning.com.au/ Goal: I am checking if there is an HTTPS version of my site (duplication issue) What I did: 1. I went to Screaming Frog and run https://www.citymetrocarpetcleaning.com.au/. The result is that it is 200 OK (the HTTPS version exists - possible duplication) 2. Next, I opened a browser and manually replace HTTP with HTTPS, the result is "Image 1" which doesn't indicate a duplication. But if we go deeper in Advanced > Proceed to www.citymetrocarpetcleaning.com.au (unsafe) "Image 2", it displays the content (Image 3). Question: 1. Is there an HTTP vs HTTPs duplication here? 2. Do I need to implement 301 redirection/canonical tags on HTTPS pointing to HTTP to solve duplication? Please help! Cheers! uIgJv DsNrA El7aI

Subdomain vs root which is better for SEO
We run a network of sites that we are considering consolidating into one main site with multiple categories. Which would be better having each of the "topics / site" reside in subdomains or as a sub-folder off of the root? Pros and cons of each would be great. Thanks, TR

Pricing Page vs. No Pricing Page
There are many SEO sites out there that have an SEO Pricing page, IMO this is BS. A SEO company cannot give every person the same quote for diffirent keywords. However, this is something we are currently debating. I don't want a pricing page, because it's a page full of lies. My coworker thinks it is a good idea, and that users look for a pricing page. Suggestions? If I had to build one (which I am debating against) is it better to just explain why pricing can be tricky? or to BS them like most sites do?

Temporarily Delist Search Results
We have a client that we run campaign sites for. They have asked us to turn off our PPC and SEO in the short term so they can run some tests. PPC no problem straight forward action, but not as straight forward to just turn off SEO. Our campaign site is on Page 1, Position 4, 3 places below our clients site. They have asked us to effectively disappear from the landscape for a period of 1-2 months. Has anyone encountered this before, the ability to delist good SERP for a period of time? Details: Very small site with only 17 pages indexed within google, but home page has good SERP result. My issues are, How to approach this in the most effective manor? Once the delisting process is activated and the site/page disappears, then we reverse the process will we get back to where we were? Anyone encountered this before? I realise this is a ridiculous question and goes against SEO logic, get to page 1 results only to remove it, but hey, clients are always presenting new challenges for us to address..... Thanks

301 vs Changing Link href
We have changed our company and want to 301 old domain from new domain in order to transfer the benefits of backlinks (DA: 50, 115 Linking Root Domains). I have the ability to modify around 50% of the backlinks. So my question is: Instead of redirecting all the links, should I update the 50% to link to the new domain instead of relying on redirects? Would this possibly trip an algorithmic filter and devalue these links? Or should I just do a 301 and not worry about modifying the links?

How do you prevent the mobile site becoming a duplicate of the full browser site?
We have a larger site with 100k+ pages, we need to create a mobile site which gets indexed in the mobile engines but I am afraid that google bot will consider these pages duplicates of the normal site pages. I know I can block it on the robots.txt but I still need it to be indexed for mobile search engines and I think google has a mobile crawler as well. Feel free to give me any other tips that I should follow while trying to optimize the mobile version. Any help would be appreciated 🙂
