Worried About Broken Links
-
In Wordpress, I'm using a plugin called Broken Link Checker to check for broken links.
Should I be worried about/spend time fixing outbound links that result in:
- 403 Forbidden
-Server Not Found
-Timeout
-500 Internal Server Error
-etc.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the responses guys! I did specify numerous statuses because not all of them actually lead to broken links. For example, a lot of the links appearing as 'server not found' actually work.
This link for example works, but is rendering the 'server not found' status by Broken Link Checker. (Actually, ever link from this source comes up with a 'server not found' status, but they all work.)
Any insight?

Yes it is best practice to fix or replace those broken links on your website. Having broken links can cause you to lose trust with a user, seem dated, and possibly lose some authority with Google.

I would recommend cleaning them up. You can also try https://brokenlinkcheck.com/, which is free to use and crawls your whole website. Having broken links is bad for users and also is a bad signal for Google for your website's helpfulness.

A query about internal linking. Have I got this right?
Hi Guys I think this sounds like a right noobie question, but I am amongst friends so here goes. So our website is an ecommerce site selling magazines. There are certain magazines, for example Vogue, where we sell the UK version, USA, italian, spanish, french etc there's basically 13 different Vogue magazines on our site. The more niche ones attract some good long tail traffic. However, the UK version is competitive and so requires some extra umph to get us a half descent rank. However, when you search "vogue magazine subscription" for example, it's our italian vogue which is listed first. When I looked into this, I found that we had linked out from our UK Vogue to Italian vogue. Could this have given the italian vogue a marginal boost, as it had the additional internal links? What I have now done is add to some, not all, of the variations something along the lines "you will find the UK Vogue magazine here" where "UK Vogue Magazine" is the anchor text. Is this the right thing to do? Will this identify that the UK Vogue page is the higher priority page, or the more important page? I was also going to add to a category page a "Top 10 Womens magazines" section, and link to Vogue from there. Am I barking up the right tree? Thanks Guys Paul

Should I worry about these 404's?
Just wondering what the thought was on this. We have a site that lets people generate user profiles and once they delete the profile the page then 404's. I was told there is nothing we can do about those from our developers, but I was wondering if I should worry about these...I don't think they will affect any of our rankings, but you never know so I thought I would ask. Thanks

Link Profile, is the keyword ratio too high?
Hi, Our website (www.NutritionMission.co.uk) has dropped from 6 to 30 in the ranking for our main keyword (Nutritional Therapy). Pulling a spreadsheet off of all the inbound links looks like 41% of anchor text is related to Nutritional Therapy. Is this ratio too high for the new google update? There are also a lot of directory submissions from the SEO people we were paying before. Anyone point me on the right track to get some idea to how to work things out? ie. add more links to ratio of anchor text is lowered etc. Kind Regards, Ian.

No-follow links on advertising pages
Hi I run a job board that enables employers to post job vacancies and information about their organisations. These are 'paid for' pages (advertising) on our site. These link out to their own websites. My question is, would it be better for these links out to their sites to be no-follow? From my site's perspective, I cannot necessarily dictate the quality of their websites (although the majority are leading firms) as I would in article and feature content, where we do happily link out and refer to other quality sites with information that gives readers further information. I know that many large job boards do this where they run listings of feeds from other sites, but should we also do this at the page level where the link out is effectively paid for. What would be the pros and cons if I do or if I don't use no-follow? I hope this makes sense and look forward to some replies. Many thanks

4XX Broken Links
I am attempting to fix the issues SEOmoz found when crawling my site. I have a list of 4XX errors that I am attempting to fix. Basically I know one option is to redirect them to another page, but I would like to have the option to remove the links completely. The only problem is I can not find where the links are located. Does SEOmoz provide where on my site these broken links are? Or do they only provide the url that is linked to?

Absolute of Relative Internal Website Links
Hi, I am not sure what is considered best practice when linking between pages on the same site - absolute or relative: Link Or Link I notice a lot of CMS systems (WordPress) use the absolute method - is there a reason? Any help much appreciated. Barney.
