What Is The Best Way To Categorize 3 Different Top Level Categories Each With 20 Sub Categories
-
Hello,
We are trying to figure out the best way to categorize our app review website. We have 3 platforms, iPhone, iPad and Android and each platform has several sub categories and numerous apps subcategories totaling around 50 to 60 categories for each platform.
Any suggestions how to do this properly?
thank you
Mike

Nakul,
we are going with the platform for SEO key rich urls, for example:
iphone/app/books, ipad/applications/books, android/apps/books/ and this would go for the 30+ additional categories for each device, which is primarily the same as the original App Stores categorization.
We are using WordPress, Yoast plugin for SEO, but have just now begun to focus on a correct taxonomy that makes sense to users as well as Google, showing a theme across our content.
I would love to use the urls: iphone/apps/books, ipad/apps/books, and android/apps/books/ but I am not sure how to do this technically in WordPress, since you can only have 1 original url for any category, tag, post or page.
Also, do you have any suggestions for tools to query what our visitors are searching for on our site?
thank you
Mike

Interesting question, there are obviously 2 scenarios.
1. Device Category (iPhone/iPad/Android) > Games (Sub Categories)
or
2. Games Category > Device iPhone/iPad/Android
What platform are you using for your website ? Or is this custom ? I'd suggest you do some sort of an analysis and see how users perform searches and prefer to navigate sites like yours. In either case, provide both ways of navigating if you can. Survey a group of audience if you can and get real insight, again...if you can.

Is it still necessary to have a "home" page button/link in the top nav?
Or is it not necessary to have a "home" tab/link because everybody by this time knows you can get to the home page by clicking on the logo?

Magento Category H1 Tags
I am currently using magento and have all titles labeled correctly. I have made a H1 tag for the main page which works fine. Each product title becomes and H1 tag, which again is fine. However my category pages are missing H1 tags. If I manually code an H1 tag, then there becomes 2 H1 tags. It is using my category name then my manual H1 tag. I don't want it to use my category name because it is shortened to fit on my navigation bar.

Ex. www.mydomain.com/tshirts/short-sleeve
In this example the subcategory title is short sleeve. When using MOZ tool on frontend it shows NO H1 tag or the title becomes H1 tag "short sleeve" however I want the H1 to actually be "short sleeve tshirts"
If I manually add an H1 tag to description on category page it adds both the title AND the H1 tag I enter.0 -
Going mobile: Responsive or different mobile version?
Going mobile: Responsive or different mobile version?
Web Design | | FCRMediaLietuva
Which one should we choose? Should we do responsive design or should we have a different mobile version and go m.domain.com ? http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2253965/3-reasons-why-responsive-web-design-is-the-best-option-for-your-mobile-seo-strategy I just read this article. It seems that the responsive design is OK, but the first comment kills that opinion and says that it is pretty hard to make it OK. 🙂 So I need more opinions? What is best for people and for SEO?0 -
The Best Wordpress Templates and The Best SEO Plugins??
Hey guys, I am a newbie and after so many painstaking hours of building my new site using the WIX platform, I just found out that WIX is not SEO friendly 😞 So referring to (copy n pasted) the old post below posted in by Big Bazza back in June 2011, does anyone agree or have any updated information they can assist me with so I can get my new site started ? Cheers 🙂 www.studiopress.com - excellent templates and support is first class! EDIT: These all support WP 3.0 and are SEO friendly too! (They have modified the SEO functionality) However, the framework also allows you to run Yoast Wordpress SEO - which is generally considered the best SEO plugin for WP. http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/

Best Way to Remove Mutltiple XML Sitemaps From Multiple Subdomains
Just found a series of of XML sitemaps hosted like so: http://www.thesite.anothersite.com/sitemap.xml and defaulted to remove and 301 redirect but as this is the first time I've encountered an issue like this, an outside opinion or two would be much appreciated. Is the 301 the best option, should I 404 them or what?

Getting tons of duplicate content and title errors on my asp.net shopping cart, is there way to resolve this?
The problem I am having is that the web crawlers are seeing all my category pages as the same page thus creating duplicate content and duplicate title errors. At this time I have 270 of these critical errors to deal with. Here is an example: http://www.baysidejewelry.com/category/1-necklaces.aspx http://www.baysidejewelry.com/category/1-necklaces.aspx?pageindex=1 http://www.baysidejewelry.com/category/1-necklaces.aspx?pageindex=2 http://www.baysidejewelry.com/category/1-necklaces.aspx?pageindex=3 http://www.baysidejewelry.com/category/1-necklaces.aspx?pageindex=4 All of these pages are see as the same exact page by the crawlers. Because these pages are generated by a SQL database I don't have a way I know of to fix it.
