How much is enough when it comes to Social Media?
-
I have attended a number of social media webinars with tips on getting the most out of Facebook and Twitter. Now, I would like opinions from someone who is not trying to sell me something.
We post 2 daily blog articles to our Facebook company page which auto re-posts to Twitter every day. Is that enough, or is it necessary to hire someone to engage people with additional conversation?
If your answer is that additional conversation is needed, are there any companies or individuals that you recommend to provide these services at a reasonable cost?

I think you pretty much have to be engaging with people on social media - otherwise in what sense is it "social"? You're missing out on a lot of opportunity not only to win your users' hearts and minds, but also to learn how they interact with and think about what you do. That's how a lot of companies right now are using social media - to figure out what their customers really like and want so they can make a great product. The conversation will happen whether you participate or not - don't you want to be part of it? If you're not, you have no control over the message.
So who to hire to do it? I've had a great time working with the good people at Social Creatures Media. That's who we use when we need some social magic. I don't know what you'd consider a "reasonable" cost but I find their pricing more than fair for the quality work they do. And no, I don't work for them

That sounds like a push strategy = posting articles. That's marketing your content. web 2.0 is about pull. It's about engaging with customers. Answering questions and being responsive. So yes I would say, if the ROI is there, get your average out of college person, young and hungry to monitor what is happening on these platforms. Also using search.twitter.com can allow to find people that are talking about your industry or co. I recommend checking out @garyvee - he talks about interacting in his new book and also in his first book - both are great.

Social media signals from Facebook comment plugin on your site?
If you are using the Facebook social plugin on your site like ThinkGeek does for comments: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ed6b/ Are there any positive social signals from people leaving comments that could impact the SEO of the page? I searched the text of some comments in quotations in Google and it appears that the first few comments are indexed but most are not.

How important are social signals to SEO? Are generating social signals a must? It seems every website out there has some sort of social sharing tool installed, everyone is after a like or a tweet. Are we now looking at getting as many likes/tweets etc from real accounts as possible because actually they effect SERP's a lot. Cheers

Social Media Signals with AddThis?
Good day guys, Just a quick question. By having the AddThis sharing tool to share content such as blogs, does it still send the same social signals to Google as you would get by having the official Facebook/Twitter plug-ins? Regards

Does social media really work?
I just finished a 2 week test using Twitter. The person running the test was tweeting for 1 hour every day, but the tweets were broken up into several different times throughout the day. She engaged in conversations, retweeted, posted interested and catchy topics and linked to our blog. By the end of the test, we only saw a 7% increase in traffic to the blog. There was no noticeable increase in sales. According to an article I read by Business Insider, Applied Predictive Technologies ran a test to help companies like Starbucks measure the impact of social media. They concluded that social media accounted for a 2% increase in sales. That's not much for the time and money that goes into it. What's your experience with social media? When I first posted this, I neglected to say this Twitter account is one we have been activly using for about 2 years, and we have posted to it at least once or twice every day for the last couple of years. And, we are a well established company for the past 8 years, and we regularily submit press releases and have written 2 articles per day on our blog for several years.

Can you recommend a social media guide?
We have a summer intern we need to give a handbook/guide on social media strategies, best practices, etc. Any recommendations? It can be free or paid, as long as it is accurate and up-to-date!
