Domain Aliases
-
Hi there,
I've got two sites mysite.com and mysite.org
.org is indexed by google, .com doesnt seem to be.
.com is used for some material that is sent out, and accounts for about 20% of incoming visotors. (80% end up on .org)
Is there any positive or negative effect from this? Would I benefit from 301'ing the .com to .org?
-
They have exactly the same content - it's just an alias, using the same files. I'm pretty sure .com isn't indexed as if i specifically search for the domain, nothing still comes up.
-
Just so I am understanding, both of these domains have different content - they are not duplicate at all?
It sounds like .org is your main site, and as such, is probably better optimized and has more quality content on it.
Are you sure the .com isn't indexed or is it just ranking very poorly?
As long as these are two completely different sites, I don't see any negative effects of this - but it certainly isn't helping you in anyway either. If there is a way to just combine the information into one site that may be the best option. Or if you have a lot of time, and can create unique content across each site, then optimize both

301 a whole subdomain to main domain
Hello, we have our website in two languages. The subdomain cs. for czech and main domain for english. Somehow this has caused google not to rank our main domain in local CZ SERP for many english keywords and we have not found out a reason other than it might think of them as duplicates or that we at the start had put targeting for the cs. domain to CZECH. (Its been 4 months, english keywords in Czech serp are easier and still it ranks them on the very last place, yet for example.com ranks them in google.com co.uk, fr etc in top 10) We will close our cs.example.com subdomain and use only example.com hoping this will not cause google to display only one domain and raise it in CZECH rankings. **Can i 301 redirect cs.example.com to example.com and all the categories of cs.example.com to relevant english categories. This should be ok? **

Best use of an old domain?
I've discovered that my clients website used to have another domain name, which they still own but don't use. It's doing OK considering its not been used for a few years - almost 6,000 backlinks showing on Majestic. So what's the best way of using this for SEO? I'm presuming some kind of redirecting? A simple redirect of everything on the domain to the new domain index page? Or going trough all the old pages and redirecting them one by one?

Sub Domain Redirect
Hey Everyone, Here is the situation : Currently, a website's sub domain is being redirected to the main website home page. We're having issues getting the sub domain pages indexed. Just want to confirm that it is because of the redirect on the sub domain URL. Should we kill the sub domain redirect and set it up as it's own page? Will that solve the indexing issue for the sub domain pages. More explanation below: subdomain.domain.com currently redirects to domain.com We're having issues indexing pages belonging to the sub domain ( subdomain.url.com/page1 or subdomain.url.com/page2) Appreciate your input in advance. Cheers,

Redirect to a new domain and seo effects
I created a one page blogger with listing of several affiliated websites. It gained some visibility on google but it was very plain so i decided to create a wordpress more complex and fancy and to reach the top of search positions. At the moment i decided to keep the listing on blogger and add some links on the page saying "i've moved to a new website. click for more info" and it redirects to my page. But i dont get many clicks to my new site so i was thinking to maybe create a full redirect from my blogger to my wordpress or a iframe to fetch the wordpress but im afraid it may hurt my seo on my blogger. what should i do? thanks in advance

Questions about root domain setup
Hi There, I'm a recent addition to SEOmoz and over the past few weeks I've been trying to figure things out. This whole SEO process has been a bit of a brain burner but its slowly becoming a little more clearer. For awhile I noticed that I was unable to get Open Site Explorer to display information about my site. It mentioned that that there was not enough data for the URL. Too recent of a site, no links, etc. Eventually I changed the the URL to include "www." and it pulled up results. I also noticed that a few of my page warnings are because of duplicate page content. One page will be listed as http://enbphotos.com. The other will be listed as http://www.enbphotos.com. I guess I'm not sure what this all means and how to change it. I'm also not really sure what the terminology even is and something regarding root domain seemed appropriate but I'm not sure if it is accurate. Any help/suggestions/links would be appreciated! Thanks, Chris

Domains
My questions is what to do with old domains we own from a past business. Is it advantages to direct them to the new domain/company or is that going to cause a problem for the new company. They are not in the same industry.

Preferred domain registrar AU
I need to register a domain in Australia. Does anybody have a trusted domain registrar I can go to? The person in our Australian office gave me a list of registrars she found where she can purchase the domain, but I wanted to see if anyone here had recommendations.
