Expressionengine SEO
-
One of my clients is using expressionengine CMS, and even the simplest things like creating unique page titles seem to be a nightmare. When I try to change page title via cms it also changes navigation menu. Any help will be appreciated.

Just browsing the forum and noticed this thread... Looks like you've changed to WordPress, but I just wanted to post an answer should anyone else need it.
Based on your description, the page title and navigation items are currently being generated from the same field (likely, the default "title" field) in the entry. Moreover, it's certainly not unusual to want them to be different (navigation title generally much shorter).
You'll want to add a new custom field specifically for the navigation title, adjust the template that generates the navigation to use this new field, and continue using the main Title field the way you wanted.
Assuming you're on ExpressionEngine 2.x (released july 2010), you'll add the new field through Admin > Channel Administration > Custom Fields.
To adjust the template that generates the navigation, you'll want to go to Design > Templates > Edit. If you're familiar with HTML, you can open the Index template and drill down to wherever the navigation is likely located at. You'll probably find an "embed" statement that references another template specifically for navigation. Just use whatever name is in the embed statement to find the navigation template, and go back to Design > Templates > Edit to open that template up. From there, you'll want to change the {title} tags to the name of the new navigation title field you created - {my_new_field} .
If you're on 1.x, the process is very similar, but the templates and custom fields are in a slightly different location - let me know if you need additional help.
I don't work for ExpressionEngine, but I do want to mention, for whatever it's worth, that I've used most major CMSs (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc.), and stopped when I got to EE. If you're comfortable with HTML, you'll find it's an extremely powerful CMS, especially for SEO.
Should anyone need any help with ExpressionEngine, you can find a list of developers at http://www.director-ee.com, or you can always visit their forums

We've got a client just approached us about doing some on page SEO work on their ExpressionEngine site.
Did you figure out an answer to this question?

Sounds like you might have to jump into the code. Here is a post from their forums regarding usage for page titles.

Is your client open to changing to a new CMS? I haven't used expressionengine but it sounds like some of the features you would expect to be simple are not.

Javascript redirects harmful for SEO?
Hi Mozzers, A website deals with some javascript redirects. After some research, It came clear a normal 301 is the best option, but javascript redirects can be useful if you don't have access to a website' server. Does anyone have experience with javascript redirects? Can they be harmful in any point of SEO? I would love to hear your thoughts!

SEO for Parallax Website
Hi, Are there any implications of having a parallax website and the URL not changing as you scroll down the page? So basically the whole site is under the same URL? However, when you click on the menu the URL does change? Cheers

Would an automatic redirect to itunes affect SEO?
We recently started working on a website and most of the work done so far is resolving onsite technical issues (duplicate content, duplicate titles, broken links, pagespeed, grammar, etc.). Everything done has been positive, but their position in SERPs has actually gone down. I'm having a look to see if anything I have done could have had a negative effect. However, when visiting their website on a mobile device, it automatically redirects you to iTunes so that you can download their app. My first instinct is that this is a horrendous idea as it would result in a massive bounce rate which would be impossible to track. I have tried convincing them to do it differently, but this is how they want it. However, when googlebot visits the website as a mobile it returns an error. I'm fairly sure that this would have a negative effect on search results but I could do with a second opinion.

Using 302 redirect for SEO
Hello, I'm in charge of SEO for an information website on which articles are only accessible if you have a login and password. Most of the natural links we get point to our subscribers' subomain : subscribers.mywebsite.com/article1 If they follow these natural links, visitors who are not logged get redirected (302) to www.mywebsite.com/article1 on which there is an extract of the article and they can request a free test subscription to read the end of the article. My goal is to optimize SEO for the www.mywebsite.com/article1 page. Does this page benefit from the links I get to the subscribers.mywebsite.com/article1 page or are theses links lost in terms of SEO? Thanks for your help, Sylvain

Could multiple languagues on one site be bad for SEO???
Our site is has content in English and in Spanish. The spanish side was translated by me, Spanish is my first language, so i know that the translations are good and its original content. We were Pandalized/Penguinnized pretty bad earlier this year. We have completely cleaned our site of anything that could be considered thin content or grey hat techniques. An associate is telling me that we need to put the spanish version of the site on its own domain, does this make sense to anyone? The spanish side of the site gets only about 5% of the visitors, bu i still don't see the logic in taking all those pages and putting them on a different domain. Would this help recover from Panda/Penguin. Thanks

Switching Hosting & SEO
Hello friends, We are facing the prospect of switching to a new hosting account or company. We are currently using a third-party reseller account but are outgrowing that account. We are considering VPS and dedicated servers. However, this will mean updates for IPs and nameservers. Does anyone have experience with SEO consequences of making switch? Best practices? Tips? Obstacles? Any and all comments/advice welcome. We're trying to balance the potential SEO ramifications of making the switch with the consequences of reduced site speed.
