SEO For New Website
-
Hello Mozzers,
I've recently (2 weeks ago) launched a website with a brand new domain for a client. I know I can't expect instant results but I'd like to know I've done all I can to get the best results as fast as possible.
I've done the following already:
- It's a WordPress driven website so the site is very SEO friendly
- Submitted the sitemap.xml to Google
- Listed the site on Bing
- Sorted out the canonical issue
- Got keyword rich URLs
- Meta tags are in
- Site structure is heavily optimized with H1, H2 tags, etc. used appropriately
- Set up a Google Places listing
- Made sure all images and links are semantically optimized
- Copy can be improved but is pretty keyword rich
However the client is not using Social Media at all and there's no link building strategy in place.
Will this undermine the rankings a lot?
What else can I do to get the client better results, faster?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Best regards,
Rex (SEO Noob)

You're welcome.
**I figured as much but was hoping there might be a few onsite things I could do. **
I think that is a common pattern. On site is easier, so we all tend to look for it. Even when we really know that the answer is "lots of hard link building to do now" we tend to look for other answers. You don't have to be a noob to fall in to that trap!

Thank for you speedy reply as well Marko. Much appreciated.

If I may ask one more thing: Any idea on how to price for link building and social media services?
Thanks agian,

I agree, if it even makes the slightest sense to have social media, have it.
It doesn't have to take up a lot of your time, (if possible) use apps like Buffer to keep it updated regularly and interact with some followers. It sends the right signals to Google.

Yes - totally. You really cannot underestimate the importance of links. In simple terms: if you niche is in any way competitive (even if that competition is just handful of people with a vague idea) you are not going to rank positively without links.
Getting the site set up well and search ready is great, but you need to get moving on your links. I'd much rather work on a poorly optimised site with a load of links than a well optimised site with none.

Which is best for SEO: Dedicated landing pages for contests or templated page URL?
A colleague and I were having a discussion about this and wanted to get insight from the community about this. Most often we run contests on social channels, but for some we place them on our e-commerce web site - particularly those which have a universal appeal to customers since these also tend to be included in our e-mails. So our question is with regard to any links built to those contest pages, is it better to: have them point to a unique page, Example: domain.com/customer-appreciation-contest OR A reusable page/URL that can continuously be repurposed and updated for new contests. Example: domain.com/contests We discussed pros/cons of each but am curious if anyone here has insight or source that definitively advises which method is best. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Has anyone done any testing on LinkedIn Endorsements to see if they are of any SEO value?
Hi, Has anyone done any testing on LinkedIn Endorsements to see if they are of any SEO value? It is so easy to endorse a persons skills, it seems to devalue the credit given. But, if it is adding any SEO value, why not? Thanks so much, Donna 🙂

How important are social signals to SEO?
How important are social signals to SEO? Are generating social signals a must? It seems every website out there has some sort of social sharing tool installed, everyone is after a like or a tweet. Are we now looking at getting as many likes/tweets etc from real accounts as possible because actually they effect SERP's a lot. Cheers

Youtube and SEO
Hello, For a game site I would like to use Youtube for SEO purposes. And I need a little advice on this. How would you use these video's without spamming? There are a lot of tactics to use Youtube. Create channel and put your desired url in the profile (link back to your site), Put your desired url in in the description of the video (link back to your site), Put the created youtube video also on your own site to drive traffic to youtube, and back. And get views. Put a created channel on your own site to drive traffic to youtube, and back. And get views. Other tactics I don't know.... Can someone advice me what tactics I can use without spamming, I'm afraid that if I use combinations of the above mentioned tactics I get an unnatural linkprofile.... Thank you in advance. Regards, Thomas

Is there any SEO benefit of adding the Facebook "Like" widget to your site?
A lot of sites put their Facebook "Like" widget on their homepage and it shows the number of people who like them. Is there an SEO or marketing benefit to having this. I could see how this can provide social proof to visitors. Are there any other benefits?
