Submitting Same Press Release to Multiple Sources
-
I've never considered this as a good practice, but is there any benefit to submitting a press release to one PR source, then going to other PR sources and submitting the same content? My main goal, currently on one project, is the soul purpose of link building and backlinking.
I see this as duplicate content, although I am seeing competitors submitting the same press release multiple times trying to reap some sort of benefit from it. In my honest opinion, I would rather submit 1 different press release each week throughout the course of a month to a quality site like PRLog or PRweb.
Comments? Opinions? I would really like to hear them.

I think its okay, because you're paying for service and its pure white hat, its just like using adwords and msn at the same time.

The one instance I feel submitting to multiple sources is ok is if the sources are actual people. Typically if you submit a press release to a journalist or a relevant source they will not use the exact copy you gave them, but quote or cite it.

Thanks for the reply. I agree at this being worth a test. As I have stated in a response to "Highland" below, this is definitely NOT a primary SEO strategy by any means. Just another supplement to what we have been doing.
I've also been weary doing this due to Google's "content farm" update... I just need to make sure we are utilizing sites that have not been penalized as of late, which in my studies I have found them to be the article sharing sites more so than sites like PRWeb or PRLog, etc.

Thanks for the reply! I figured as much for going little to no benefit... Just needed to reassure my stance before I present my thoughts back to upper management and co-workers.

This is definitely never my "primary" source for SEO. It is mainly just an addition to the currentl link building strategies already in place.
My main concern was the fact some individuals in the office don't understand SEO very well and wanted me to send our our PR's multiple times. I think they misunderstood my explaination at sending them out at the most once per week and using different sites to do this. I really just wanted to get another solid answer of "No" to reassure myself.
I do like your idea of just putting the PR on the site and letting people link out to it. I am planning on converting the PR's into PDF files and then putting them on our site as well. Problem is, I don't want to submit the same release 5 different times, then put it on the site. I'm more for the submit once, post on the site for visitors to view.
To be truthfully honest, the competition we have is doing a lot of this for SEO purposes. They are trying to rise up organically as our industry prepares for a possible change in the market. I see a consistant number of companies pushing out PR's, with lack of purpose other than to help them with backlinks. Once again, not primary, but definitely part of their strategy. I think this is the main reason my co-workers feel that they should do the same, which I am telling them, "No, lets put one out per week at the most... Maybe just 2 per month."

I've never been a fan of the whole PR-as-primary-SEO method. PR was intended to "get the word out" to as many sources as possible. It's paid off for us in a few instances because a local TV station has picked it up a couple of times and given us a TV story (with an accompanying website article, although not often with links). As far as SEO... it's a lot of work for little reward. Since your PR is likely identical to many sources, it would indeed be pared back in the SERPs where only one would count and the rest would be considered duplicate.
In short, I wouldn't run a mass PR solely for SEO reasons (especially not as a reliable source of links). PRs can get quality backlinks, but only as a bankshot. Instead, I would put the PRs on your sites and see if people will link to it. If it's well written and interesting, you could get some good one-way links. I am willing to bet your competitors are not doing PR for SEO.

There is no benefit is submitting the same press release over & over, as you said it is duplicate content. It can be beneficial to rotate the press release distribution service on different press releases because you will get backlinks from unique domains. Take a look at PR Newswire & PR Web.

Is it safe to submit the same article to multiple sites?
Hello, I am just getting into SEO and I need some guidance with article submissions. I have read in many different places that submitting articles to other sites (EzineArticles, Digg, Etc.) is a great way to build links back to your site. My question is, can I submit articles already posted on our site to these sites or is it best to write new articles?

Same Page, Multiple URLS- Canonical tag? Redirect?
I just read this article about how google views multiple versions of the same page as different pages of duplicate content. My website, www.telikin.com currently has many versions of the home page. There is: www.telikin.com
Link Building | | Telikin
www.telikin.com/index
www.telikin.com/index.php
www.telikin.com/index.php/ All of these seem to be their own URLS, If i use the open site explorer tool to search for links pointing to these URLS, the www.telikin.com domain shows about 700 links, and the www.telikin.com/index.php shows about 63 links. My questions: Is my SEO suffering as a result of having these different pages? Does google realize that links pointing to www.telikin.com/index.php should count towards the seo of the www.telikin.com page? If this is hurting my company's website, how do I solve this problem? I am not versed as a webmaster, so I don't understand what the best course of action would be. Should I request that our webmaster somehow redirects all traffic from the other URLS to the main www.telikin.com URL? Should I be using canonical tags on all important pages? If i do, for example, use a canonical tag on the www.telikin.com page, will Google then know to send all link juice from the www.telikin.com/index.php page to the www.telikin.com page? We also have a Joomla blog that seems to duplicate pages many times over, but that is a problem that I will have to address another time. Any comments/suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks, Dave0 -

To Press Release (or not)?
Hey Mozzers, Our company designs, develops, and manufactures products for a living. Last year we came up with an idea of our own, designed, developed, tooled and produced it all on our own dime. We did all the branding, website, EVERYTHING on our own. The product looks like it's going to be pretty successful. We are now planning on opening our web store tomorrow and expect to be selling and shipping product tomorrow. The product is an iPhone accessory that basically turns your iPhone into a wearable POV camera similar to GoPro. Check it out at http://miveu.com. I'm wondering if we should actually do a press release about the opening of our web store. I only say this because it seems like a natural thing to do at the moment. That said, it sounds like it could actually hurt us. If this is a good idea, what's the best channel. Doesn't need to be the cheapest channel, but one that will spread the word. I guess the real question is, "how can we drive traffic to our site?" over the next few days. Please don't bash me after looking at our site. While the site looks great IMO, we have done ZERO SEO work to this site. This includes even the most basic novice work, like titles and descriptions. To this point, we have focused all our efforts on getting the product to market, getting the website running, getting the store ready, etc. I do plan on doing some SEO work soon or maybe even hiring and agency to do it. For now, we just need to get selling. 🙂 BTW,,, we have gotten some pretty good exposure by exhibiting at CES and have won several awards. Our reputation is extremely important to us and we don't want to do anything that could tarnish our reputation, now or in the future. I look forward to all your thoughts and feedback. Cheers!

Multiple pages battling for same keyword
Hi, I have earlier had a post about this, but still I am in doubt. I posted: http://www.seomoz.org/q/page-not-being-indexed The keyword "betsafe" in that question has now "bounced" back and is now the page shown in SERPS for the search keyword. This is great, however I don't know why. By checking the URL in OSE i have discovered that the page has in-links from SEOmoz.org. Which comes from the above questions thread. Can it really be, that these 2 links from SEOmoz forum has done the difference? We appareantly have zero links from other sites to the URL, despite actually having them on another site. Now we are having trouble with keyword: "bet365" which should show page http://www.betxpert.com/bookmakere/bet365 but does not (on google.dk). I have optimized the page as far as I can stretch it without doing in in an unnatural way. Only thing left to do is bring down number of links. What is your advice? Should I simply try to link build for the URL with the keyword - and then it will beat our other pages which seem to steal the SERPS? -Rasmus

Where/should I post my press release/articles on my own website?
I have started a long-term article marketing campaign and press release distribution. I will have about 4 articles and press releases in total every month. Although the press releases will not be self-promotional, sometimes they will be talking about a certain product that we unveil. The question is, due to the high quality of these press releases, should I put them on my website as well as publish them on third party websites? If so, because they target a specific service/product which we already have a dedicated page on our website, wouldn't that put Google in the position of choosing between the two pages? I was thinking to put them on my blog and link internally from there with the keywords that I target on those pages as anchor text. The same question for articles. Any suggestions?

Multiple same domain links on Open Site Explorer
In doing competitor link analysis on Open Site Explorer, I've noticed quite a few links coming from the same domain listed separately. This seems to be especially prevalent with Google directory listings. For example, I'll see a link to the site from google.hu/...., google.am/..., google.kz/..., etc. In some cases, it will be prefixed with an IP address, followed by the subfolder address. Correct me if I am wrong, but these seem to be all counting as separate root domains that are linking to the site. How is this done? Are directory submissions given to each country's google directory? Does an original DMoz listing get re-submitted to all of these? Just looking for some clarification on this and how it's accomplished. Thanks everyone!

Do press releases add any link juice?
I've been told by PR Web that anchor text in their press releases will add SEO value and increase our page rank. They even charge more for releases that include the ability to link specific keywords to specific pages (anchor text keywords). So - do such press releases really add any page rank to our site? Here's our press release: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/5/prweb8289567.htm Thanks, Alex
