How to you determine what a good CPA is on an ecommerce site?
-
Do you calculate shipping, warehouse cost, cost of goods into your CPA?
Lets say my current CPA is $20 and average order is $100. Its 20% of each order cost goes to lets say ppc, seo, email or affiliate.
Do I include cost of shipping lets say its $7.00 and cost of goods are $40.00
I end up with a profit of $33 and that doesn't include taxes, salary, warehouse cost ect.
*this is all hypothetical, Im trying to see if my real CPA is inline or I should work on decreasing it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

When trying to figure out a cpa i always tell my clients to Keep in mind Sometimes it isn't about making money its about how much a new customer is worth to you. Sit down and factor expenses profits etc then calculate the long term value of a new customer. Also ask your self if my cpa goes up/down will my volume of conversions . Often we find that the more volume that comes in the higher the cpa becomes because less targeted traffic is needed to hit the volume.
Good luck

Sit down with a spreadsheet program and tabulate all of the costs incurred to complete a sale. That includes merchandise cost, shipping containers, labor, postage, labels, etc. etc. To make a profit on the sale your CPA must be greater than Revenue minus Costs. To stay in business you must generate enough sales to cover your fixed costs such as rent, insurance, etc.
I suggest seeing an accountant if you don't have a good handle on your costs.

Anything Good or Bad about Google Trusted Stores ?
We are looking to implement Google Trusted Stores. We don't use PPC but we think that the badge on our website will be helpful for us and our customers. Do you have any experience, positive or negative, with Google Trusted Stores as either a merchant or a customer? I am looking for moz member experience before we make a commitment. There have been some previous Q&A threads about Trusted Stores and a number of good articles on the web, including this one at SearchEngineLand. and this one at eConsultancy Thanks for anything that you care to share.

Help with ecommerce duplicate pages and SEO advice(magento base site)
Hi, We have a magento build site (www.mokee.eu) and are selling our own branded goods. So far it is a very limited range of products. It's 1 baby crib in 5 variations. We recently started getting more sales from the site, so I started to look a bit more into optimising our site. I rewrote item name, created better descriptions, added meta titles and description etc. and subscribed to the MOZ analytics platform to understand a bit better ways to improve things up. From what I saw we have a big issue of duplicated content because our product pages are the same and only the product colour changes, which is something google apparently doesn't like However it is important for us that each colour get referenced by google so people who search for grey cot can find a picture of our grey cot etc... Also I was thinking to create only on multi variation page with all colour but when you have only 1 product to sell it might look a bit empty on the site. 1- Do you guys have some advise on how to go round this issue? 2- Do you have any other advise for my site in particular to optimise things and actually do you think i should be worried at all with such a small catalogue? Thanks Sam

Which eCommerce Platform?
Dear MOZ community members We currently run a custom built IIS/ASP/SQL Server system that is starting to fall apart and needs major overhaul. I'm currently evaluating a number of open source eCommerce platforms (Magneto, OpenCart) and would welcome any advice that some of you may have. We are not a major brand, but we have a good name in our field which we wish to maintain and we ranking very well for our top phrases despite not having SEO-friendly URLs amongst other things. I've downloaded Magneto and installed it on a LAMP could server and got it up and running. It looks very flexible, albeit a little bloated and I can concerned that it's a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Do any other small businesses have experience with Magneto? Thanks for your time! andy www.prendas.co.uk

Conversion Rate - site feedback
Hi We gave a website a bit of a facelift last nov with the aim of increasing its position within Search Engines and getting it to begin making sales. The site: www.funkyfootstools.com is now moving in the right direction for its keyphrases, footstools and ottomans although it still needs some work. The issue I have is that from the visitors that come to the site, the stats prove they have a look around, they are just not purchasing - I am not sure if this is because of the layout, ie. usability or if there is something else. Any ideas & feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Carl

14,000+ links a to one site - is this a problem?
First, thanks to those who have helped me before. Second, according to Google Webmaster there are about 14,765 external links to my site. According to Open Site Explorer I have 22. So a couple of questions: 1. Why such a discrepancy? 2. Of the 14,765 links shown in Google Webmaster 14,665 are all from one place and all link to my home page. The site is interiordesignproductfinder.com. In August of this year I bought a sponsorship there. There are several of these sponsors so which show up on a rotating basis. Will having 14,765 links all of a sudden showing up be grounds for some type of a Google downgrade? Why are there 14, 765 links instead of just one. Is a new link created every time our sponsorship rotates to the page? Another thing, in the past couple of months our conversions have dropped significantly. we average about 180 visits a day with a 50% bounce rate. Is there anything obvious thatt might have caused this drop? Thanks for any insights. Don www.uniquegiftsanddecor.com

Lookiing for examples of local "small biz" sites with phone or contact form conversion points
Hi Guys, I'm looking for any good examples of small business sites that you've come across that do a good job at converting potential visitors to clients. I'm primarily thinking about service oriented business such as Doctors, Dentists, Salons, Clothing stores, small restuarants, car detailing services, local photographers, etc. I'm just trying to digest other examples and look for new inspirations.

How Quality Score relates to Cost-per-acquisition CPA
I'm running purely CPA campaigns at the moment and I'm wondering if my Quality Score is at all relevant. My understanding is that Quality Score is closely tied to clicks, so if I'm not targetting that (but conversions instead) then the Quality Score is not something I need to pay any attention too. In fact, it seems kind of irrelevant. Do any experts out there agree or disagree? I would love some clarity! I've never seen Google refer to conversions or CPA when it talks about Quality Score.
