Change Homepage internal Link from Image to Targeted Anchor Text -- Spam??
-
I am in the following situation:
1. Homepage is designed to target one main keyword.
2. All current pages link to the homepage with the image/logo, nowhere on the site do we link to the homepage with the target keyword.
3. It is an established page (Moz rank of 58)
If I suddenly added text above and made the homepage link targeted anchor text, would Google consider this spam?
We are ranked #13 in Google and our looking for ways to move up, but I do not want to risk any type of Google penalty.
-
Correct. And then your text navigation will be user friendly things like 'products' or 'home' rather than a 2 or 3 phrase keyword.
-
Why don't you use your keyword in the alt text? The alt text will work as anchor text of the link of the image.
-
Thanks for responding Daniel.
We use an alt text of "home" but not the keyword.
-
Adding text (eg. ourkeyword) below/above the image/logo will not be seen as spam.
You don't mention if your image/logo is making use of the alt tag or not?

When trying to sculpt an internal link structure, is there any point in placing text links to top level pages that are already in the main menu?
Does Google recognise a link in the content if there is already a link in the menu? My understanding is that Google only counts the first link it finds.

Internal Links Catalog (too many links)
I have several car catalogs that I use to direct my customers to the parts for their vehicle. Example:http://www.mikesfuel.com/Acura_c_69.html My customers like the approach. They can easily find their vehicle, then scan the columns for the parts that they need. Each part number is a link and the part numbers are sometimes posted several times in one column. All of the links are internal to the web site. My fear is that this is going to be treated as a link farm. I have considered using a PDF catalog with links, but that is going to be hugely expensive. What do you think? Thanks for any help Mike

Links to Paywall from Content Pages
Hi, My site is funded by subscriptions. We offer lengthy excerpts, and then direct people to a single paywall page, something like domain.com/subscribe/ This means that most pages on the site links to /subscribe, including all of the high value pages that bring people in from Google. This is a page with an understandably high bounce rate, as most users are not interested in paying for content on the web. My question is are we being penalized in Google for having so many internal links to a page with a very high bounce rate? If anyone has worked with paywall sites before and knows the best practices for this, I'd be really grateful to learn more.

Image Tags And Titles
Hi, I am currently revamping my website with a new look. Some questions i have with regards to the images found on a page. I know that we need an alt tag for each image. This should not be keyword spammed. However, what about the title tag for the image? What is the best practice for image title tags? Should it be the same as the alt tag? Should it be different? Should I leave it blank? If I am running a wordpress platform for my website. The defaulted settings for wordpress is that all images inside a post are clickable. When clicked, the page loads from abcdef.com/page/ to abcdef.com/page/image.jpg. This seems to be generating alot of internal links but I don't see the value of loading an image when my visitors click on that. Should I let the image be clickable or remove the link on the image for best SEO practices? Thanks for your advice. paul

Too many on-page links
Hi, My website - www.thepartyhouse.com.au is showing as having too many on-page links for over 4,000 pages. Take for example the homepage which is showing as 188 links, but I don't understand this because I've used SEO tools to display the links and I am showing around 90 links on this page. How can I see what all the links are? Thanks
