Hi,
we run a tourism information website about a region in italy, and each year, during special occasions such as christmas, easter and so on we publish an article with a "what to do on Christmas / Easter / .... in the Langhe" (collecting events, activities, etc.).

Is it better to "reuse" the old articles and change only the year in the title and of course the content (providing that we are gonna keep the URL without year), or to publish a new one?

I run a small wordpress multisite network where the main site which is an informative portal about the Langhe region in Italy, and the subsites are websites of small local companies in the tourism and wine/food niche.

As an additional service for those who build a website with us, I was thinking about giving them the possibility to use some ouf our portal's content (such as sights, events etc) on their website, in an automatic way.

Not as an "SEO" plus, but more as a service for their current users/visitors base: so if you have a B&B you can have on your site an "events" section with curated content, or a section about thing to see (monuments, parks, museums, etc) in that area, so that your visitors can enjoy reading some content about the territory.

I was wondering if, apart from NOT being benefical, it would be BAD from an SEO point of view... ie: if they could be actually penlized by google.

My doubts are more tied to the question if the ranking loss due to the domain switch outweights the advantages of having moving to a more "brandable" domain.

A few years ago I have "inherited" a website about a particular touristic area in Italy (the Langhe region) called langhe.net.

The website is very well positioned, the domain has been registered in '97 and the overall SEO performance is pretty good (it ranks in the top #3 positions for all the main search queries in our niche).

We are currently redesigning the whole thing, and one of the idea was to change the domain (and the name) of the website from langhe.net to lovelanghe.com (which we already registered).

The reasons behind this decision are the following (most important first):

1. Google prefer brands over keywords and "Langhe" is just a keyword
2. LoveLanghe looks more memorable and "marketable" than just Langhe.net
3. All our social presence is branded already as LoveLanghe (they were created years back under this name - I don't know why)

We will do our due diligence work (301 everything, domain change in Search Console etc. etc.) but I'm still kind of worried that we will lose some ranking.

So my question(s) are:

1. do you think it's a good idea to change the domain when ranking is good and original domain is so old?
2. how much ranking (approximately) are we going to lose?

We run a website about a region in Italy, the Langhe area, where we write about wine and food, local culture, and we give touristic informations.

The website also sports a nice events calendar: in 4 years we (and our users) loaded more than 5700 events. Now, we're starting to have some troubles managing this database.

The database related to events is huge both in file size and number of rows. There are a lot of images that eat up disk space, and also it's becoming difficult to manage all the data in our backend. Also, a lot of users are entering the website by landing on outdated events.

I was wondering if it could be a good idea to delete events older than 6 months: the idea was to keep only the most important and yearly recurring events (which we can update each year with fresh information), and trash everything else.

This of course means that 404 errors will increase, and also that our content will gettin thinner, but at the same time we'll have a more manageable database, and the content will be more relevant and "clean".

What do you think?

From a quick peak at your site I have seen a couple of problems (IMHO).

The most important is that many meta descriptions and page titles are basically a collection of keywords: scarpe ...., scarpe...., scarpe... and/or with spelling mistakes. This is not only bad for pure ranking pursposes, but it's also going to reduce the CTR from SERP pages, because as a user, if you see these kind of results in a search page you're not really keen to click on them.

Second, maybe a little longer text on the product page would help.

Also, some of the title tags and metadescription are duplicate.

The page is definitely targeted towards tourists, but I thought that I could promote it on travel page regardless of it's original position.

Our website is about a particular region in Italy, the Langhe area, famous for food and wine (barolo and barbaresco are produced here).

We need to rollout a few new pages about cellar/winery tours: one main page with the list of tours, and the various subpages for each tour. We already have a page about travel, and a page about wine (with a sub-page about wineries).

The URLs looks like:
langhe.net/travel/
langhe.net/wine/wineries/
(Note: i'm translating from italian here)

Now, I'm wondering where is better to position the new pages:
langhe.net/travel/winery-tours/name-of-tour/ or
langhe.net/wine/wineries/tours/name-of-tour/

From an SEO perspective (within my limited experience) the first option has a shorter URL, but the second feels more "natural" to me.

What do you think?
