Should we have customers like our URL or our Facebook brand page?
-
(Note: main question in bold)
I know this post basically establishes that Facebook shares are not a strong cause of increased rankings.
But what about likes? I've searched and read through the forum and YouMoz blog but haven't really found this question answered.
We just redesigned our site and we're implementing sharing options in the booking and order completion processes - should we point the Facebook Like button to like our URL or our Facebook brand page (currently with 3,800+ likes)?
Seems that a like of the URL would be more direct ranking value (what we're going for), but according to that same post mentioned above, Google doesn't crawl or index FB wall pages... so is all Facebook activity - shares, url likes, brand page likes - for naught? (at least for now, till Google starts using that info)

Thanks for the feedback Ryan. It's true things could've changed. I was just curious if anyone had done any tests one way or the other. I think I'll go with continuing to build up our Facebook brand page community, although building likes on the URL is tempting and seems like something Google will count in the future if they don't now... Anyone else have any input or experience with rankings improving because of likes on a URL or FB brand page?

There is a lot of speculation on this topic but I am not aware of any hard facts. There are a few analysis articles such as the one you mentioned in your original question. Search engines do not share this information. Even if you had a confirmation of Google's policy from 6 months ago, it could have completely changed. Facebook is constantly making changes and so is Google.
I can only share my practice is I try to ensure each visitor is presented a means to Like each web page, and the home page also offers a means to Like the Facebook page. I also recommend other methods of encouraging a Like to the main Facebook page. One example is a 10% off coupon to anyone who Likes the page.

True, and I see the benefit of that. As a personal user I interact more with the brands I follow on Facebook.
But as far as SEO value goes, is there any advantage to more likes on our URL vs our page?
What I'm scared of is that the info I've been reading is starting to say there's not a way to get direct ranking SEO value out of social interaction with Facebook...

should we point the Facebook Like button to like our URL or our Facebook brand page
The Facebook page would be preferable.
If someone likes your facebook page, you establish a very important communication channel with the user. You can post news or specials on your facebook page and it will appear on the user's wall even if they do not visit your site. That connection is a huge advantage because most facebook users see their wall updates daily, where they probably visit your site much less frequently.

Switch to naked domain that has higher page authority
Brilliant Moz community! I just started here and find it so helpful and am confident that I can get an answer to this. Our domain is currently https://www.example.com. I have been wanting to move to https://example.com just for a cleaner URL. To my surprise, https://example.com has the same DA but a significantly higher page authority than our current https://www.example.com. Of course my immediate reaction is to 301 to the https://example.com but I wanted to get some advice and anything we should consider before doing this. My other question would be - how is this possible? I don't remember that we ever used that domain but we also had some rather bad developers a couple of years back. Thank you so much in advance!

Is there any value in trying to add a page to wikipedia
Hi Mozzers, My manager has asked me this question and I'm not quite sure how to answer it. "Is there any value in trying to add a page about our company to wikipedia" I would have thought it's very difficult to get a page to stick in wikipedia if it's about a company that isn't huge (like Apple or Google). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Personally I think it's potentially quite risky and unlikely to bring much traffic (because I can't imagine anyone would visit a page on wiki about my company - not that my company isn't great, because it is, it's just not HUGE or global...) I think a wiki page could be a bit spammy! Would welcome your input, and I am happy to be proven wrong! Thanks, Amelia

Branding Association for SEO, and Google's understanding of a "brand Name"
Hey guys. so I currently run my own business here in Queens NY, for Web Design and online marketing, specifically SEO, SMM, SEM, and some inbound marketing that ties to SMM and SEO. When starting I was in a different business, and had kept my old business name. I plan on re-branding myself January 1st with a brand new name, the name i'm seriously considering is "Media Marketing USA". I was able to purchase MediaMarketingUSA.com. I feel this name is good and bad at the same time, and here are some of the reasons. The pro: Easy to remember, sounds big, and describes my business well. The con: Sounds generic, and I worry it will be hard to brand. I used the mentioning tool provided by Moz and see that nearly everyday 500-1,000 people are naturally mentioning Media Marketing USA, one of my biggest questions is will this give me a competitive advantage in SEO, or will it hurt me in SEO as Google may not see this or understand its a brand name? Do you personally think this is a good name to re-brand myself and use as my main website? The Website itself will be used as a corporate website, a method of inbound and outbound marketing through content creation, Social Media, and of course SEO, targeting specific locations, and specialty services and industries in the NYC area. Please share your thoughts with me, THANKS!!!

Is there a ranking report for SERPs not specific to a URL
Is anyone aware of a tool or service that's available that will report on SERPs no matter what the URL is? Meaning, if I ask it to give me the top 50 results for a certain keyword, I would like it to give me a report on each URL that is ranking for that keyword.

What is the best set-up on Facebook if you have a spanish speaking and english speaking audience?
Hunting around I don't see a simple answer as to the best way to treat a customer base that speaks 2 different languages. The ultimate goal is to build the most efficient, easy to manage solution where segmentation is minimal, ie: we don't have to add 2 lists of friends, if possible. There are a couple of options, 2 company pages (1 english, 1 spanish) 1 company page (english) + community page (spanish) - community pages look like the company can loose ownership however. 1 company page + group What is the best way to do this?

How do you promote a G Plus page? Where are the G+ ads?
Hi All, My question doesn't actually refer to the fluent work of maintaining a page but rather to the basics. In our Facebook page we simply "bought" ads leading to our page and got the followers over time. I don't see an equivalent option in G+. Do I need to use regular adwords and point people to the G+ page or is there a place I can place ads inside G+? Thanks

Link local online newspaper ad to newspaper's spash page or my site?
We just started advertising on the web version of our local newspaper. They suggest our ads go to a "splash page" they created for us on their site. The page haslinks , images and text taken from each of our main categories,. Plus links and feeds from our twitter and facebook pages. And a google map. This page shows a page authority 1 with 0 links. Is there any reason to link our ad to a page like this rather than going direct to our website page? Thank you Handcrafter

On the "new" YouTube" layout how can I select the correct Facebook page to connect to when my Facebook account has multiple business pages attached to it?
On the "new" YouTube" layout how can I select the correct Facebook page to connect to when my Facebook account has multiple business pages attached to it? My Facebook account has three business pages and the "base" user profile. I am trying to connect one of the business pages to a YouTube channel but each time I attempt to do this YouTube selects the "base" user profile and I cannot determine how to switch it to the correct business page. I attempted to connect while signed in "as the page" but it would not allow that. Thanks for any help!
