Inner page rank higher than domain
-
Hey there,
Today my site received it's first Google pagerank and noticed something strange.
My domain got a PR of 2 whilst most of the other inner pages got PR1, so far so good.
But then one particular inner page which is just 2 weeks old and has zero backlinks has PR 3.
I'm not one to fixate on PR but this just struck me as weird.
What do you guys think?
-
Small note: You don't get link juice from email links. Just traffic if they click.
-
It should not no
But we still don't know how google computes PR. But yes, this is a long shot, compared to my first response
-
I think your first response nailed it Yannick but I disagree with the second one. The freshness algorithm adjustment for specific keywords should not have any affect on a page's PR.
-
Might have something to do with: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/giving-you-fresher-more-recent-search.html
-
Is the page more important the other pages? It is more informative, written in a higher quality manner, have a great infographic or tool on it, or otherwise related to a currently trending topic? Any of these reasons can lead to a page earning more links.
Follow Yannick's advice and search for pages linking to you. Also check your Google WMT for pages linking to you. As Yannick mentioned, check your Analytics for your traffic sources. These are all clues to the puzzle.
-
Well now you mention it I did do an email campaign but I assumed that any links from an email client wouldnt have much of an effect.
The reason I'm pretty sure there isnt any backlinks it due to the page only being about 2 weeks old and I havent actually built any.
It just seems weird a 2 week old page is the highest ranking page on the site.

No mentions in social media? Facebook, Twitter? Typing link:www.domain.com/pr3page in google might not give you a full overview. Neither will OSE and neither will all tools combined. So you might have missed some links. Check you analytics to see if any visiters entered your site via that page and via a referral.
-
Thats the strange thing page has zero back links.
Still not going to lose any sleep over it!
Thanks for the reply

My guess is that that specific page has a larger percentage of external links pointing to it (higher then your home page), could also be due to the fact that your internal link structure is placing favor on this page.

Ranking more than one page.
Our travel website has a number of different places listed. The layout of each place is the same as the next. On place ranks on page 1 for its keywords where as others do not. Is there a tool of some description that may identify why this is.

Changing a product page from "example.com" to "example.com/keyword" affect SEO and Ranking?
We're in a situation to move the page from "example.com" to "example.com/keyword". And adding new content to the "example.com" page. Does this change affect our ranking? If so how can we overcome this problem? Can anyone help?

How would you push up a page that is already ranking in the top 20?
One of our pages is currently ranking around the 11th position in Google. According to MOZ page grader its page optimization score is an A. I've manually checked the on page optimization and it's done properly. Our page speed is in the 20s according to google page speed insight tool and when I look at one of our top competitors their scores are in the 60s. So that may be an issue. Our DA is 70 and our top competitor's DA is 85. However we have more backlinks and social shares for our page. So do you think our page speed may be working against us? What else would you check or consider optimizing? I'm just trying to come up with other possible causes that would be working against us. Thanks.

Google Is Ranking the Wrong Page
Howdy Folks- I have a case where Google is ranking the wrong page for a couple of different keywords. The home page is: http://healthtn.com Most notably, we're trying to optimize the home page for "Tennessee Health Insurance" but the below page is what continually ranks for it, and does so very poorly. We used to be page two with the home page, now we are page four and it ranks the following page. http://healthtn.com/tennessee/health-insurance/student I have started directing our Internal Linking to reflect the correct anchor text but succeeded in losing ranking for the term, but am still ranking the wrong page. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated!

Ranking Fluctuations
I need your help. My rankings have been on a wild roller coaster ride since I started optimizing the site with standard on page optimization changes. (No keyword stuffing or over-optimization...) I have only made positive changes for the content on the page; I created unique descriptions for every product. I redirected some urls that weren’t readable into a more user- friendly format. I am only doing completely organic link building, really. Yet for some weird reason the rankings initially rose and then steeply fell and ever since have went back up to the top and right back to not in the top 50 results. Just to give you an example this is a graph of one of our main keywords: https://www.diigo.com/item/image/3vpdp/gd2q This is another keyword that we admittedly never were in the top 5 results but usually we were in the top 20. Check out the wild fluctuations. If it wasn't the main keyword we were going after, I would probably laugh. https://www.diigo.com/item/image/3vpdp/rcy9 I asked an expert he said he think it might be from a major issue with internal competition. The keywords that seem to fluctuate the most, have numerous landing pages that compete for the same keyword. Since we sell the same object in many many different sizes, thicknesses and colors it only makes sense that we have the same keyword on many pages. I would love someone that is an expert in this area to have a look at the site and give actionable advice so I can stop the craziness. Do you have any suggestions? Do you have anyone that you’d refer for this type of job/consulting?

Source page leading to a 404 pages in reports
Hi everybody, I wonder how to find and quickly correct 404 errors in my crawl reports : SeoMoz says me "http://domain.com/this-page-is-dead" is 404, but I can't figure out a source page where a link to that url appears. I tried a google link:http://domain.com/this-page-is-dead request, with no more luck. I imagine the trick is trivial, but I need it 🙂 Moreover, why do not show a list of pages referring to this 404 page on reports ? Thanks, Loïc
