How Important is the IP Address for SEO?
-
Hi Everyone,
I am curious to know if IP Address plays any role in SEO....What if a website sharing an I.P with a porn site, BlueFart site, fake viagra pills site etc.? Does it affect the SEO?
Please share your opinion on this.
Thanks

There are numerous issues which can arise from sharing an IP address. Many of these issues can affect SEO. Some examples:
1. If any website which shares your IP address sends spam e-mail, then your IP can be blocked by various companies. Later when you try to send site-related e-mail to a customer your e-mail will then be blocked. The issue can take weeks to resolve one the root cause is found. This issue can impact SEO since many sites use e-mail to confirm registration, send advertisements or otherwise promote their site.
2. If you share an IP address with a "bad" site, your site's IP can be blocked or served different content.
3. Your site can be blocked by various companies due to sharing an IP with a bad site. For example, many sites have various spam protection where the admin presses a single button to ban a user along with his IP.
I don't believe a search engine would take action against your IP unless they felt most of the sites on that IP were bad. There is precedent for such action but it would need to be quite bad to reach that point.
In short, if you are even remotely serious about providing a quality website then a unique IP should be considered. It is required for SSL, and usually costs only a couple dollars/month otherwise.

In that extreme case, then I would not go near that number, I would not even utter it near a computer or electrical device.
But in general, you can share you ip no with no problems at all. For instance, DiscountASP a big hoster in the US shares almost all of its thousands of websites on one ip number.
Any flagging of IP numbers I believe would be manual, and they would check it out first.
There is something to say about getting all your links from the same ip address, or same c-block of ip numbers, this can look suss if you have too many from the same.

SEO Strategy help
Hi, I run a B2B 3rd party retail ecommerce site and I am kind of stuck on how to implement my SEO strategy.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | steve45058
So I learned from AdWords data that the best converting words to my site is the (Brand name, Model Number). Many of my B2B customers already know what they want/are looking for. Now this is all fine and dandy for adwords, but I don't really know how to implement this strategy on the SEO side. I do rank decent for some of these product keywords, but 99% of them I do not (which confuses me because some of the brands I rank high for are the more popular brands eg. more competition.) When I do keyword research on SEMRush or another site, it tells me that the competition for this type of keyword strategy is extremely high. Any Help, Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!1 -
If I hired you/your company to do my SEO ...
If i hired you or your company to do SEO for my site (http://goo.gl/XUH3f) what would be the first steps you'd take? I'm pretty sure i've covered all of the basics myself, I'm just left trying to figure out what i should do next... rankings have been going up and down for the last few weeks, but even when they're up, they're not high enough 🙂 (and then they go back down anyway) ... I know some of you are going to say build links, please at least give me an example of one or two sites you'd try to get to link to mine... I'm open to any advice or feedback as I'm just a website owner who's been doing their own SEO & learning on the fly... Thanks a lot!

My domain name is free with my service with yahoo but it expires every year and gets extended automatically as I continue service, how does this impact my seo efforts? I've heard that the search engines prefer sites to expire in 3 years or more? Is this a fact?

E-Commerce SEO
Dear SeoMoz fans, I'm really glad to be a part of the community. Just have a quick question. I run a marketplace similar to eBay where users sell the products. I would like some suggestions on how to effectively proceed with SEO for an ecommerce marketplace of this type. Should I be proceed developing product review or product comparison landing pages and build links towards them as often suggested or should I consider alternative marketing methods? Looking forward to your replies.

SEO Company Referral
I am looking for a great US based SEO company referral. I try to do as much as I can on my end but the more I learn, then more I find I need help to do a great job. Lately running the business takes most of my time, and we need a team who really specializes in SEO. Can anyone recommend a SEO company with a great reputation, someone who has done great work for you in the past? I get many people contacting me with SEO promises, but I need some advice from someone with more experience than me. I appreciate all of your insights.
