HARO (Help a reporter out)
-
Hi there,
I'm always trying to think of new ways of getting great links and thought HARO could be really beneficial to our SERPs, the only issue I think is that we are a UK website and mainly the reporters are based in the USA, writing for Chicago Tribune, NY magazines etc, is this an issue?, here are a few more questions:
-
Has anyone had success using HARO?
-
Anyone outside the USA had success with HARO?
Kind Regards

Just a follow up to my previous post - I ended up submitting 4 of these to HARO. Contrary to what I said previously, I submitted direct to other press sources, not through HARO, so I only ended up submitting 4 to HARO. Anyway, I got 2 published. It took a week or so before they went through, but I got my company and photo listed along with a link.
So I think it takes some work to come up with quality information and send it out, but at a 50% (with limited statistics) conversion rate, I'm definitely going to continue using it.
Good luck all!

I signed up and have been submitting 2-3 daily for the past week. I've yet to see a link let alone a response from a reporter. It may be too soon to fairly dismiss the service but with the many people on SEOMoz that have cited it as a useful resource, I would be surprised if it doesn't work out.

I signed up for HARO and received a flood of newspaper queries that weren't even related to my field (law). It was too hard to keep up with all the topics, and so I quit it after a month. Even if you are quoted as a source, I think it is rare that you would get a link.

Hi there,
Thanks for the quick feedback.
That's unfortunate, I was thinking this could really work for us, may I should give it a go and see how things go.
What industry were you targeting?
You mentioned there a lot of others offering useful info too, can you be ever so kind in telling me what these are?
Thanks again

I have never had success in getting a link from or even an idea picked up by/through HARO. And I do think that I have offered some useful tidbits, etc, but there are a lot of others offering useful info, too. The service is probably more effective for journalists than for SEOs or webmasters. I am US based.

I need help finding a link building professional
I understand that some may respond to this question advising that we should concentrate on building good quality content, and eventually the links will come. And I do agree. The problem is that while we are implementing a content strategy and we're absolutely focused on creating unique, quality content for our audience, we're also a brand new business with a current grand total of (wait for it...) - 4 back-links! So while we're devoting our efforts to create the most engaging content we can, we need to find someone that can help us build our back-link profile and help to promote our brand and content in the most legitimate way possible. Obviously typing "SEO" into Google is not necessarily the most effective way to find the right person for the job and I'm a bit apprehensive about posting ads on eLance, oDesk, etc Does anyone have any idea how we can find someone smart and highly experienced that understands the importance of doing this right? We are Australian based but they don't have to be local. Thanks in advance. Stu

Does blocking domains help remove bad links?
I have affiliate websites that are harming for one of 2 reasons: 1. They are on adult websites (and I don't want to be in a bad neighborhood) or 2. They are using a Frameset (so their content appears identical to mine and I am getting "credit" for all their junk links) I cannot get these websites to remove our links so I have blocked their IPs on our production firewall. Is this an effective method or should I do something else with these links?

Need help interpreting Ranking Factors.
Trying to see DA vs. mozrank and why things don't match the definitions given by seomoz. I'm comparing my site www.taxproblem.org w/ www.unclefed.com I have more root sites linking to me and more links. I can see that the mozrank for me is 4.96 which is higher. But their mozrank is higher. How are they more popular based on how the domains, rather than the pages link to each other. That is real confusing? Please help me understand what this means, and yes i know that right now they have better quality links, but that's not what the definition says. I'm I not understanding the definition? mozRank of the page www.unclefed.com/ mozRank shows how popular a page is on the web. The more links to a page, the more popular it becomes. Links from important pages increase your popularity, and your mozRank, even more. 4.64 out of 10 4.64 Links to the page www.unclefed.com/ The total number of links to this page, counting links from www.unclefed.com and links that don’t increase the mozRank. 606 links 2 Root domains linking to the page www.unclefed.com/ The number of different websites with links to this page.
