I have been under the understanding that it is best to vary your anchor text.

I have been working on a keyword term "boat covers" - however a link from the manufacturer site with the anchor text something like "Company Name Boat Covers" would be just a good or better.
Is this correct?
Thanks,
Brook

CafePress is right on. Your position may also benefit from links to your page with your target text nearby, so cafepress' suggestion of Boat Covers from [Company] or similarly [Company] Boat Covers should be on the right track.

Yes, from my link building experiences in the past 11 months I've noticed partial-match anchor text offer the best boost in rankings. It's a way to create a natural profile unnaturally...if that makes any sense? Although I have not conducted an actual experiment on this, including your company name is very beneficial as it helps brand your website as well.
For example, you can use these derivatives to get you started:
Boat Covers from [Company]
Buy Boat Covers only at [Company]
Go to [Company] for Boat CoversOf course, there will be some who disagree with this method so at the end of the day I would suggest you test out both techniques.
Happy link building!

Best backlink reading 101
Hi all New to MOZ and SEO. I run a small business and am interested in building backlinks and was wondering what the best reading material/articles are on the matter. I understand SEO in general, moreover the importance of Pagerank, and was wondering what a good approach would be to building a foundation or intro to this. Thanks in advance Joe

Do spam text links count for negative seo?
I run a high-PR (or whatever we're calling it now) website builder. When you sign up, your URL is a subdomain of the main site (like yourname.foo.com). My site is lucky enough to be on the spammers radar, so they frequently create sites to get more back links. A while back, I caught onto this and neutralized their links (even though they had nofollow tags) by only displaying them as plain text instead of anchor tags. Spammers continue to sign up and create sites, even though their links are now text. My question: Are these text links still affecting my SEO negatively? Or do they know something I don't?

What are the best initial things to do for an offsite strategy?
In the case where I've already... Just completed onsite optimisation Undergoing developing blog content Kicking away with a social media campaign I'm wondering what are some of the best things to do for offsite optimisation in that first month. Local directory submissions are all I can think of in this initial month of offsite optimisation to develop some good links before its really just all about content creation and promotion. Other than directory submissions, does anyone have any other suggestions for initial offsite optimisation activities and strategies?

Best way of starting link building to a new website?
I am doing SEO for a security keyholding company and would like to build up some quality links from related and high PR sites. Submitting profiles to directories is incredibly time consuming. I am thinking of outsourcing a link building campaign to a link building company, but know Google advises against this. Does anyone recommend a cost effective and ethical link building service out there? Or are there any link building techniques to use that will help me out? What I want to be sure of is that a link building campaign won’t get my websites penalised in search engines and the links are from quality and related websites. Many thanks in advance

Text Link Ads - have you worked with them?
I work with a large group of community sites and we were approached by a company called Text Link Ads to purchase links on our sites for SEO purposes. This means we can't add "nofollow" and the resulting page is crawl-able. This goes directly against Google's policy but I think it would be tough to find out exactly what we're doing. It could be a great revenue source and this company has many, many sites they work with. That said, this sounds like what you say right before something bad happens. So, two part question: Has anyone worked with this company before? And should these links be avoided or are they not so bad? Thanks in advance!

How Important is Placement of Anchor Text
I'm working on a series of guest posts to help promote a site. These are competitive, high quality posts from a well-respected resource in the industry. I placed the author introduction at the front of the posts, with anchor text for the keywords we are targetting (e.g., "This is a guest post by John Doe, a [keyword] who ... and writes about [keyword]."). I understand that having the anchor text in a prominent location - such as near the front of the post - will probably be more authoritative than a sentence at the very end. My question: how significant is this difference? The blog that I am posting on wants to include author information at the end only and only have one link using the site name (which doesn't contain keywords). The post I sent had two deep links using keyword-rich anchor text, placed at the beginning. I am trying to decide whether to walk away and keep shopping the material around.
