Does anyone use Ultimento for Magento?
-
We're working on a re-design and want to start with SEO rather than leave it until the end. Of course, saving time and money on a custom template would be great. Ultimento found at www.ultimento.com boasts great SEO features. Has anybody used it? Please comment. Thanks in advance!

Hi SEOPA,
Any update on Ultimento? Has it worked out for you through a Magento upgrade? And the Ultimento 3.1 upgrade? Has it been worth the investment so far?

See my comment below. Just saw this note: There may be some stuff you still need to tweak, but it should save a lot of time. I'll post again after we dig in a bit. Again, on first glance it looks pretty clean and well worth it.

Hi Kevin,
Interesting timing. We JUST made the decision to switch from BigCommerce to Magento, and last Wednesday I discovered Ultimento. On first glance a lot of the customer reviews looked fake, but there are hundreds so I'm hoping that's not the case.
Long story short, from my research it looks like a lot of the features can be accomplished individually with different Magento extensions and such. That said, it looks like it can save you time. We have a lot of moving parts (which I'm guessing you do to) so went ahead with it and opted for the middle package (I think it was $300 or so) if it saves at least some time it will be well worth it for us. Plus, Magento can be finicky so I'm hoping it makes things a little less painless. This is our first Magento project so we are looking to reduce any pain points. (I've done a lot of research on speed enhancements and hosting if you want to discuss).
Ultimento also appeared to have some helpful features (not SEO related) that we will take advantage of. Again, doable with different extensions, but I like how it's all packaged up.
My developer is testing out Ultimento as I type this. My main question is if there are any customization limitations with it. We're doing some fairly custom stuff, so hopefully not.
I can circle back later this week with some more input on it after we test it out a bit. On first glance it's very clean though and the install was pretty quick.
Feel free to send me a message if you want to talk further about it (or other Magento items) offline.
Good luck!

Thanks Tyler. We're committed to Magento. I was inquiring about the SEO effectiveness of the Ultimento template in particular. It's up there at around $600, but if it saves us a complete redesign of an entire Magento theme, then it'll be well worth it. I'd just hate to get involved with this only to find that we still have to work throughout the code changing heading tags, removing extra span tags, inserting XML modifications to add metadata, and all that jazz. If you don't tool with Magento, you probably won't get what I'm jabbin about, but that's ok. Magento is a beast, we're just looking to maximize our SEO dollars in the least amount of time.

I've never personally used that service. But I've used similar services. Particularly http://www.shopify.com/ and wordpress has numerous themes. I've also used http://www.weebly.com/. But they wouldn't be as flexible as ultimento.com looks...

We added hundreds of pages to our website & restructured the layout to include 3 additional locations within the sub-pages, same brand/domain name. The 3 locations old domains were redirected to their sites within our main brand domain. How long could Google take to crawl/index the new pages and rank the keywords used within those pages? And possibly increase our domain authority hopefully? We didn't want our brand spread out over multiple websites/domains on the internet. This also allowed for more content to be written on pages, per each of our locations service's, as well.

What Website Platform would you use?
We are considering 1 maybe 3 websites (1 new 2 redesign) there are so many options with technology rolling over every 3 years it seems. Here are my obstacles: Wordpress: dynamic but easily hacked, often needs updating Joomla: attractive, but cumbersome to manage Custom: sleek and easier to manage, but gets outdated quickly Here are some variables: 80+ products, E-Commerce, Dynamic, Blog, Tons of images, SEO friendly, MUST not lose our rankings! OK, Moz friends, What do you recommend?

Duplicate Title Issues using # anchor tags
Our homepage navigation uses anchor tags (?TabNumb=1#, ?TabNumb=1# etc) rather than directly linking to different pages to decrease load time (and simplify the build process I owuld imagine). These anchor links are showing up as duplicate titles in Moz. I am pretty sure if I were to use noindex or rel tags, that could have a negative affect on my search results. Any way to tackle this outside of a complete redesign of the structure? http://www.dedoose.com/about-us/?TabNum=2# as an example

Should the primary navigation use keyword rich menu items?
There doesn't seem to be a definitive (or even authoritative) answer to this. The quandry is primary top navigation - the client wants to use 2-3 keyword length nav items, and I'm politely forcing him to use single word nav. The problem is that I have nothing to back up that assertion other than "this way looks better". Examples - Site is www.buybluewidgets.com. The client wants: About Our Blue Widgets Buy a Blue Widget Azure Widget Information Sell Your Blue Thingamajig My suggestion is: About Us Buy Learn Sell

Are HTML sitemaps still in use today?
I'm trying to help a client understand the importance of having a well-organized HTML site map as a method of helping usability. As part of this process, I spent some time searching for good examples of well-organized HTML site maps, and found that many sites don't offer one (including SEOmoz). I'm wondering if webmasters and/or SEOers think they aren't valuable any longer?

Does using Wordpress Multisite have any negative SEO impact?
I manage multiple websites in Wordpress and the idea of managing them all under one Wordpress install is very attractive. Are there any dangers SEO-wise to doing so? I know that all of the sites would live under the same IP address, but that's not something I'm really concerned with anyway because I don't do a lot of inter-linking between the sites. Thanks for your help! -El Juano
