Frequent server changes
-
Hey guys. I have a server related question.
One of our websites is hosted with a nasty slow company, and we want to make a change.
The problem we have is that the site is 6 months old so it started on one server, the client then moved it to this slow host about 2 months ago, we now want to move it again.
Will this negatively affect search engine rankings?
As ever, thanks in advance

Also thanks for confirming Vladimir very useful.

Hey thanks for that Istvan. I will get it changed over tomorrow then. The company who currently host the site will remain nameless as I already gave them a really hard time on Twitter, but they are market leader and awful. Giving us way too much downtime and slow load speeds! NM

Agree with Istvan, i didn't see any negative effect on ranking, only positive if new hosting is faster.

Hey Nextman,
I have encountered the same issue a half year ago, with mini-site. The site was moved 3 times in one year, still there we didn't see no negative affect.
At the end of this video: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoogleWebmasterHelp#p/u/24/PfqKKquA_R0 Matt Cutts says that "if you are not happy with your current webhost, you can change, it is not the end of the world"
I hope that helped.
Cheers,
Istvan

Console: Change Of Address, 301 Redirects Step Not Working
Hi everyone, We just made a switch to a new domain based on a rebrand, and we are currently directing users who navigate to the homepage of the old site to an interim page on our new site that reads companyname.com/companyname, that then redirects to the actual homepage of the new site, companyname.com. The redirect page's purpose is to tell users about the brand name change before showing them the new site. The challenge is that in the second step of the verification process for the address change, it reads that our domain name request does not correspond because the homepage is directing to this interim page. Is there a way for us to continue to direct people to companyname.com/companyname and have GSC verify that the 301 redirects work properly? Ideally we would not want to direct people from the homepage of the old site to the homepage of the new site. Thank you in advance for your help. Sincerely, Chase VHSpF

Category URL Pagination where URLs don't change between pages
Hello, I am working on an e-commerce site where there are categories with multiple pages. In order to avoid pagination issues I was thinking of using rel=next and rel=prev and cannonical tags. I noticed a site where the URL doesn't change between pages, so whether you're on page 1,2, or 3 of the same category, the URL doesn't change. Would this be a cleaner way of dealing with pagination?

Should I change or redirect this URL?
Happy Friday everyone! I just noticed that one of our Attorney Profile's url's is wrong. We used to have someone named "Dana Fortugno" as our Family Law attorney, but when he left, (over two years ago) we hired "Scott Finelli." The person who setup the site, just changed the information on the page not url. So instead of it saying "http://www.kempruge.com/scott-finelli-jd-llm/;" it says "http://www.kempruge.com/dana-fortugno-jd-llm/." I'm considering taking all the content on the page with the wrong url, copying it to a new page with the correct URL and 301 redirecting (what would now be a blank page) to the new page with the correct URL. Is this the best way to handle this? Also, I don't believe there are many SEO concerns regarding the pages specifically. The profile pages aren't what we rank for in any of our Family Law related keywords. I am worried about having a completely blank page that just 301 redirects as looking bad to google, but not sure if it would? As always, thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide. Changing the order of items on page against Google Terms & Conditions?
Good day, I am wondering if anybody here has done something like this before. I have a page in one of my sites that contains a number of different - but related - free resources. The resources can be sorted in different ways once the user is on the page. Now I am starting an outreach campaign, and want to be able to send out custom URLS (which pretty much means they have different query strings after them like '?id=123' ) so that when a person clicks on the link to the page it brings up the stuff they are more likely to be interested in at the top. I expect - hope - that some of these people will put links back to this page as a result of this. Now all the links may be slightly different, but they will come to the same page and the content will look slightly different. I will make sure to have the rel=canonical tag in place. Does anybody know if this would be in violation of Google Terms and Conditions. I can't see how, but I wanted to see what the experts here on Moz think before moving forward. Thanks in advance.

Server 500: website deindexed?
Hi mozzers, Since August 22nd, (not a site I manage) has had a Server error 500 and all the pages got deindexed? This is obviously a server issue but why it got deindexed is it because it's been a while since it had this server issue? On the pages I checked the pages loads correctly so I am a bit confused here! His webmaster account show 1500 server errors! Can someone tell me what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks

Google Analtyics Changes?
Did anyone else's google analtyics numbers jump up this month? Our unique visitors increased some, but our pageviews tripled and our bounces dropped significantly. We have been working to optimize the sites and did have a huge drop in errors in our campaign reports.
