Seeking feedback from the community here on a new project of mine
-
First off, thanks to what I can already tell is a great community here. I've never seen so much solid information in one place.
I am working on a real estate website that brings a better experience to high end lake front home buyers in our area. The lakes name is Lake Keowee and it is in Seneca, SC. My url is keoweepremier.com
Some of the top competitors seem to use link exchange options that don't seem relavent, yet they are ranking quite high.
I am only a month or two in, and just looking for feedback from you all on tips for my path forward and approximately how long it will take to you some of my work pay off in the results. Still waiting for my dmoz listing to be approved for now, arghh.
Thanks, Steven

Thanks for the feedback, I edited the url out. That said, the site offers a link exchange where it seems they link to everything under the sun and visa versa. The content itself seems very thin and yet google has them showing #2 or so in the serps. As for the inbound links, some are relavent, but many not. Why wouldn't google see through something like this.
As an aside EGOL, I have ready many of your responses to others post and I appreciate your level of knowledge on such things and thanks for the feedback.
I want to compete, but I want to do it the "right way" or "honest way" if there is such a thing.
Steven

Just sayin...
I would edit competitor's URL out of your post. This forum gets indexed quickly and ranks impressively well. I can already find your post ranking for competitor's URL plus one word.
I think that you will be surprised at how much work will be required to beat them.

Hi Steven,
I like your site, its clean and fresh and user friendly. Not sure what you have done with regards to link building however it may be worth while to create some guest posts to put on to other blogs and get some nice links coming in.
Unfortunately, your competitors are well established with a long standing clean relationship with Google and some authority links. Try acquiring some links from some of your competitors link partners.
Good luck!
Cheers
Aran

Does anyone have a great way to determine where your new Twitter followers are finding you?
We are enjoying some good success with finding new Twitter followers for our account, but the majority of the new followers do not seem to be coming as a result of our posts. How can I determine where these new followers are finding us? Google Analytics can explain those coming from our website but what about the others? Thanks to all for helping!

How do you pass G+'s to a new domain?
If a company wants to change it's domain, will they lose all the g+ 1's they had with the original domain? Is there a way to "redirect" those pluses to the new site? Thanks, Ruben

Thinking of trying a SEO Badge Widget project... any advice?
What are some best practices for launching a Badge program? I've been researching this for a large brand... they feel they want to have these badges to promote certain blogger partners within a niche. However, we have no way to "Rank" the bloggers... so it's an arbitrary factor, IMO. What are some of the hooks that other successful badge programs have used? Is there a definitive post around here with suggestions? I'm really on ground zero and have been tasked to execute on this and really seem to be flying blind. Any guidance or suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

Anyone use the new "Social Settings" in Google Analytics?
In the past couple of months, Google rolled out a tab called "Social Settings" in the Admin area (see image). It's an optional setting, and Google is rather vague about what it does. GA already tracks social in "Traffic Sources," so what is the advantage of using Social Settings? If you've used these new settings, what have your experiences been? Were the settings helpful? Did they completely screw up your analytics? Thanks, Benjamin Ri5bY Ri5bY.jpg

Does promoting a new page on twitter/facebook help it get indexed faster?
I know this probably won't matter much to people who get crawled on a regular basis, but for those of us who don't, does promoting a new page on social media help it get indexed faster with google? My site rarely gets crawled, but I've recently been adding new content. When I add new content I started to promote it on facebook/twitter and I do get minimal traffic from it. I noticed that a couple of the pages seem to be indexing quicker than pages normally do for me, although I'm not sure if it's because I recently migrated to WP or what..? I know T/FB are no follow sites, but is there a chance that promoting a page may contribute to the pages getting indexed? Thanks for any insight you can shed on the matter. It's more for curiosities sake than anything else. Pete S.

Follow Up: The Vittana “Make a Difference” Contest. Hi [FIRST NAME], Thanks for expressing interest in the blogging contest that I mentioned a couple weeks back. We’ve finalized the contest rules and we’d love to get you on board. We were impressed by the interest that this contest has generated. Not only do we expect this contest to help over 250 students in developing countries to complete their education, but it should also drive traffic to your site as well! PRIZES $200, $100 and $50 gift certificates for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Badges showing the amount of loans driven by your blog post. ??Another idea?? CONTEST RULES: WRITE A SHORT BLOG POST
Write a post on your blog focused on the theme “Making a Difference.” The post length is up to you but probably should be under 500 words. Some possible topics include. These posts do not have to be related to Vittana: How has education made a difference in your life? How have you used your education to make a difference in the world? What are, in your opinion, the best ways to make a difference? What are, in your opinion, the most pressing problems in the world today? What can we do about them. Check out the list of countries on left-hand side of Vittana’s student list. Have you been there? What are major problems facing the country? How might they be solved? Tell us about someone or something that had made an impact in your life. Again, the format can be up to you, but you can check out this document (TO BE CREATED) to help get you started. PASTE THIS TEXT AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR POST
Please put the following text at the beginning of your blog post to mention the contest:
[Paragraphs with varying anchor text pointing to our contest page--we'll vary through mail merge] EMAIL ME THE POST URL AND YOUR TWITTER HANDLE
In order for us to enter the contest, please send me the URL of your published blog post and your twitter handle. If you don’t have a twitter handle, we encourage you to sign up and create one for the purposes of scoring. Important: The scoring of posts is based in part by the number of tweets that your post receives. In order for us to properly calculate your score please ensure that your username and the hashtag #makeadifference is part of the tweet. Something like this: http://i.imgur.com/nlVij.png In order to make this process easier, we will be sending a “tweet this!” link so that when people do share the hashtag and your twitter username is already included. Good luck! And if you have any questions just let me know! Kenji1 -
I can't see the new Facebook Insights.
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the new Facebook Insights page? If I click on Insights I get a message at the top that says, "Take me to the new Page Insights" but if I click on it it does nothing. Apparently people are "talking about me" and I can't see the new stats!

Twitter campaign - need some feedback
Hi I am helping my wife optimize e-com site selling childrens clothing. I am learning SEO from scratch and have no real computer background (physician IRL). Been doing okay - member here for less then 2 months and are ranking 12th and 14th for 2 main keywords (frontpage) and 4 other keywords on first page (producer names on separate pages) (6th -9th spot). All of course absolutely whitehat. I havent done a twitter campaign yet. just recently opened twitter account but have 3 or 4 followers willing to retweet ( they all have 700-1000 followers in right segment). I have very limited twitter knowledge. Here is my idea and just shoot at it if you think i should do it otherwise: it will be in norwegian but ill do it in english just for you 🙂 follow @companyname(epleskrinet) #childrensclothing (which is name i use for company on facebook) and retweet and take part to have your chance to win a 'giftcard' of x USD. (www.epleskrinet.no) I am planning to put a box/picture referring to competition on frontpage. Feel free to critique me, thanks for help.
