www.bcspeakers.com/
vs
with the search term "speakers" why does BC speakers show up in around #50-60 and PSB is not in the top #1000?
From all metrics on seomoz PSB kicks BC in every area by a large margine! can anyone see why BC is listed for that keyword and PSB is not?
-
Thanks for your great suggestions.
Although BC has 6000 + pages the vast majority seem to be pdf's of their parts catalog. with no pr at all.
Nether one of BC or PSB have many links back with anchor text as "Speakers" the vast majority are the company names:
<a class="clickable title link-pivot" title="See top linking pages that use this anchor text">b c speakers</a> - 250+
PSB Speakers - 3000+
Do you think that google is seeing "psb speakers" as the company name and ignoring "speakers" as a relevant term?
-
The first thing I notice is that bcspeakers has many more pages indexed by Google, about 6000 to 700.

This in itself doesn't begin to explain why one site might rank higher than another, but it illustrates that not all things are equal between these two sites. Link metrics like Domain Authority are great for comparing sites under the theoretical assumption that all other factors are equal. So given two equally optimized sites with identical inbound link metrics, one with a DA of 50 and one with a DA of 40, the DA 50 site will likely rank higher.
But with large complex sites like these, things are never equal. Both sites have different anchor text, the internal link structure varies (I suspect PSB has a better internal link structure) and dozens of other factors.
To get a clearer answer, I'd run both these URLs through the SEOmoz Keyword Analysis Tool, and then run an advanced report (if your a PRO member) The tool will examine on-page factors and might paint a clearer picture.

Not really concerned on what page each one is on, or how generic the term is...
the question is why is one listed and the other is not when the metrics point in the opposite direction.
-
"Speakers" is a super generic term! You may be better off targeting something more specific.
In my mind there is very little difference between being on page 5-6 or >10. No one is going to search through 5 pages of serps to find a site.

Competition site with Duplicate Name
I have a client who is in real estate and one of his competition used the same Name and Domain and added the word Toronto in front. The competition is putting similar content on the website. The competition also hijacked the Google listing since they both work in the same building. Is this going to affect the ranking our website? What negative effect will it put on our website?

When Mobile and Desktop sites have the same page URLs, how should I handle the 'View Desktop Site' link on a mobile site to ensure a smooth crawl?
We're about to roll out a mobile site. The mobile and desktop URLs are the same. User Agent determines whether you see the desktop or mobile version of the site. At the bottom of the page is a 'View Desktop Site' link that will present the desktop version of the site to mobile user agents when clicked. I'm concerned that when the mobile crawler crawls our site it will crawl both our entire mobile site, then click 'View Desktop Site' and crawl our entire desktop site as well. Since mobile and desktop URLs are the same, the mobile crawler will end up crawling both mobile and desktop versions of each URL. Any tips on what we can do to make sure the mobile crawler either doesn't access the desktop site, or that we can let it know what is the mobile version of the page? We could simply not show the 'View Desktop Site' to the mobile crawler, but I'm interested to hear if others have encountered this issue and have any other recommended ways for handling it. Thanks!

Why isnt this site ranking?
I just took over for a site and noticed they have no presence for any keywords...not even low ranks. Their backlink profile is not the best, but webmaster tools says they have no manual actions. vonderhaar.com Thoughts on the matter?

How is my 301 redirected site stealing rankings from the main site?
Hello, I have a site, drhobelt.com, that 301 redirects to the main site, drhonow.com. Not only is drhobelt.com still indexed, but it recently stole rankings from drhonow.com for "decompression belt" related terms. What could be causing this? How do I reclaim the rankings for drhonow.com? Thanks for reading!!

How come this site does so well?
Hi Guys, It's bugging the crap out of me why this site does so well http://www.stagedinburgh.com/ when I look at it's link profile its so weak and terrible plus many links comes from the sites they own. Somehow the site out ranks many sites for search terms like edinburgh stag party, edinburgh stag do, edinburgh stag weekends. Am I missing something? They seem to only have links from 13 domains and they aint great. What am I missing?

How do you prevent the mobile site becoming a duplicate of the full browser site?
We have a larger site with 100k+ pages, we need to create a mobile site which gets indexed in the mobile engines but I am afraid that google bot will consider these pages duplicates of the normal site pages. I know I can block it on the robots.txt but I still need it to be indexed for mobile search engines and I think google has a mobile crawler as well. Feel free to give me any other tips that I should follow while trying to optimize the mobile version. Any help would be appreciated 🙂
