Is there a better map buidling platform than Google Maps for SEO purposes?
-
I'm about to publish a blog post and white paper on the Sierra Wine Country (over 100 wineries in the mountains between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe) to my website http://thingsyoushoulddo.com. I'd like to provide an embeddable map.
Last week in the whiteboard Friday, Rand talked about how a vimeo embed could link directly back to your website vs. a youtube embed that leads back to youtube. Is there anything similar in the map creation world?
-
If you do not want Google Maps you could use Bing or OpenStreetMap.
But when it comes to links; I have recently used Zeemaps because it allows me to put markers with text, images and links that go directly to the same website. Even if it goes out first.
So I have a Zeemap on mydomain.com/map with markers that have links pointing to mydomain.com/post-1 and mydomain.com/post-2 etc.
You can remove advertisement on maps for $24 a year. I havent found a cheaper or better alternative.

Francisco,
Thank you very much for responding, but I'm looking for a site other than google maps. I'm looking for a site that links directly back to my website, not google.
-
Yeah, I have that on my site. Just embed the iFrame.

How to give a better user experience and bring unique value
Hello everyone, I have between reading a lot, watching a lot of video from Rand also been trying many things in terms of SEO over the last 10 years. I am starting to come to the conclusion that the number one solution to rank is to satisfy the user and give the user an amazing experience. But what does amazing user experience and unique value really mean ? I can’t seem to get a straight answer or example. I am in the travel industry and I sell bicycle tours. I have tried to write amazing content but I guess I am like 99 % of us on the planet I don’t know how to write … 🙂 It never changed my ranking whatever I wrote. I tried to talk to the visitors like google mentioned and not about the features of my product, get a unique selling proposition etc… but so far nothing worked… ( I am currently doing one test and waiting to see if anything changes but so far the content has been indexed quickly with the webmaster tools and no changes after 2 weeks ? Is there a a longer delay once indexed, I don’t know maybe someone can shed some light on that ? I don’t believe so but maybe I am wrong. Getting back to user experience. From what I understand it needs to answer the questions people have in a unique way. Let’s take the bicycle tours for example. I you type bike tours all my competitors already do what I want to do, which means they present either all their tours on the page or have you select a tour by level, by country, by region, by type, by price, by date etc… How I can beat them and do better than them, that is what I don’t understand ? I feel like there only a limited number of ways to present a product ? I conclusion, how can I bring more value to my user, if I have them search a bike tour by level or country, I have the same thing as my competitors I don’t bring more value do I ? or does bringing value means designing it in a different way ? If so unless you have a team of graphic designers how can you do that (is the color of a button, the shape of it, the images you have ,the size of your font going to make google tick ? or is it adding information ( to me this 2 nd option not a solution because that means to rank in the future you will need to add more info that your competitors ) ? If anyone could give me some advice or examples on how they do it that would be great because as off today, the user experience thing and unique value is not clear.

Google AMP Cache - Does Google just crawl AMP pages and add them to their Google AMP Cache?
Is that all one needs to do to get AMP pages on Google's AMP Cache or is there more to it than that?

Threatening SEO practice
Hi all, We have just taken on a site that has had SEO done for 3 years by a different company, but now that company is threatening the client to ruin their site with bad links, and get their site banned. I understand through Webmaster tools that you can monitor backlinks, and file a reconsideration request, but is there any other non-time consuming way of stopping this to start with? Hope someone can shine some light on the very unprofessional practice Thanks Neil

Should ebook content be a download or hosted on site for SEO?
We have written ebook(s) on subjects of interest to our prospects (B-C market). We have taken many recurring questions asked over the years plus helpful graphics and put into short 12+ page ebooks. After filling out form to receive ebook- (first name & email on form) for any option below- Should we: a) send them to Landing page to download ebook to their desktop? b) send them e-mail with link to download ebook? c) send them directly to page on our site with the ebook content? d) something else? My thoughts are to do c) which will put content on site, though 'protected' via gate. This way the search engines can crawl the content. However, if that content is not directly reachable through menu will that degrade the importance of that content? Obviously we want to provide good, helpful information to prospects. We would also love to benefit from that content from a Search point of view if possible. Anyone have experience with this through A/B test or otherwise? Thanks, Steve

Temporary landing pages and SEO
Hi guys! I have a question that has been running through my mind for quite a while now. On our company, we offer different products that we put on specific landing pages (one per product). This products are "live" on a 20 day period. Right now, when the product expires, we put a label "This product expired" and return a 404. Is this the right way to do it? Take into account that keeping the page "alive" is not an option. The options would be: 301 redirecting to another listing (should I worry about this implementation being wrong? Wouldn't Google find it suspicous that lots of pages redirect to the same listing?) Return a 200 instead Thanks for your time!

Connecting SEO with Your Clients Objectives
Hi Guys, This question is specifically towards trying to make the connection between achieving clients objectives based on your SEO initiatives. Google Universal SERP's tends to make me try to think towards devising more of an online strategy rather than a specific SEO strategy. Whilst obviously social, video, content marketing and all that is increasingly important channels. I think it makes our actions based on trends rather than what matters most for the site to be visible - gain traffic & links (but not limited to this). Questions: 1. What framework or thought process do you use when devising a tailored SEO strategy for your clients? 2. How do you translate all onsite SEO initiatives off-site? I know there is no one fits all answer, however I would truly like to seek the SEO experts out here. Please use your example (not mine) as I think it will best help you answer this question. Note: No reference to the digital marketing framework by Avinash, I am already familiar with this. I have also not made this as a discussion, as I would truly like to get feedback from successful SEO's. Thank you for your answers in advance, Vahe
