Schema - Could a company like mine benefit from this yet?
-
Hey there - I've been reading about rich snippets and was thinking of hiring a programmer to implement this. In my industry I would be the only one thus far on front page with a highly competitive keywords and would be displaying 5 stars based on our testimonials etc, would that be acceptable? These testimonials are not on my homepage so if I implemented would it be a misuse of these tags?
My site is mortgage / financial company and I don’t see much in available tags yet except for “location” and “reviews” I could implement. I'm just trying to figure this out and I greatly appreciate any feedback!

It should be OK if you have a single product on your homepage. You just need to follow these guidelines:
The following guidelines apply to review snippets:
- When using review markup, the main topic of the page needs to be about a specific product or service. For example, using review markup on a page containing multiple products is not supported.
- Review of adult-related products or services are not supported.
- If the markup contains a single review, the reviewer’s name needs to be a valid name (Person or Organization). For example, “50% off until Saturday” is not a valid name for a reviewer.
I'm not confident Google will display the stars, but I think for the cost it is well worth having a go.

If you can get review stars, GO FOR IT!

How to properly spin off a subdivision of an existing company?
An existing client of mine is the parent of a subsidiary. The parent business currently drives traffic for the subsidiary and has been doing so for many years. The subsidiaries owner is wanting to create their own website even though the companies are still in great relationships. So I'm wanting to make sure they don't compete. What necessary steps do I need to take? My one major issue is the address. They both work under the same address and I plan on using a suite number for the subsidiary. Will that work? Even though the parent company doesn't priortize it's subsidary business for SEO, I don't want to drop in rankings and for them to compete. Any knowledge or insight on this would be greatly appreciated! The more details the better 🙂 Thanks!

Can I data highlight pages that already have schema?
Hi all, I have pages with schema on but there are some gaps. Rather than ask my dev team / wait for the changes to be made, can I use the data highlighting tool in GSC to fill in these gaps? Will it let me add these and will Google generally consider both the schema and the highlighted data? To note, if I have used GSC to highlight data and then test it in Google's Structured Markup Test Tool it won't show so I understand it may be difficult to test whether it's working or not. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do I want backlinks from companies my site has a business relationship with
I automatically think yes... but nofollow links will be safer - that would be my choice as I always err on the side of caution... If I reached out to the entire network with quality content, as I would through a PR campaign, I am wondering whether the pre-existing business relationship would mean the link wouldn't be seen as truly independent by Google. Your thoughts would be welcome, Luke

Online household calculator for utility company - SEO thin content issue
Hi - I'm working with a utility company that's produced a calculator for individual households. When you go to their website and type in your address, various household info is pulled across (from various databases) and a calculation is generated on electricity costs/savings per month - the only unique content on each page = numbers. Beyond that, the content on each page is a template. There is actually a unique URL for each household (when you click on your property name a unique results page is generated). I'm worried about thin content penalties - is the best option to nofollow noindex these individual household pages (99% of the site!)???

Is there a way to get my company to appear on its own map individually on mobile instead of with other companies?
For example: If I type in certain keywords for example like exterminating termites tucson on an apple iphone in google organic ranking it will appear with wildcat exterminating with its own individual map in the organic ranking section. How can my company get something like this? Thanks.

Can some brilliant mozzer out there teach a moron/newbie like me how to 301 redirect several URL's I have?
Okay - I am a supermodel. I look pretty. My legs are amazing. My cheekbones are high. But when it comes to 301 redirects I am the ugliest supermodel on the block. Crap, here is the truth: I am not even a supermodel. I am just a middle-aged, goofy looking dude who is a newbie to fixing websites. I have inherited several sites from a friend and I have been helping by creating solid contextual links internally and externally for a while. But, when Roger the wondrous SEOMoz robot talks to me, he says, "oops, it looks like your foolish freak self has a site that has both a www. and a non-www, which can create competition for yourself." What do I do when he says that? I just whisper a "thank-you" but gently press the skip this step button and go on with my life because I do not know how to make my non-www.'s redirect into the www. sites... Now, I have sort of asked this question on the site before, but I was answered by someone who does not understand my level of ignorance. any use of the word canonical or just put this lfwjkshj.htp/php inside the left ear of your mom, does not tell me anything so, is there any willing and kind soul who can walk me through redirecting several of my sites to their proper home - kind of like Carl Chubbs Weathers did for Happy Gilmore in that Academy Award winning classic? Thanks for the help in advance best, dumbhead
