The best country specific strategy vs. an incumbent exact match domain
-
We are the single reseller in our country of a niche software, which has a quite general but non-competitive name. The name is already taken buy others in our country TLD, and in 1st rank. They are not related to our industry/business. Let's say our software is named blah, which could be the best country specific strategy we could have? Register a new country TLD domain with the blah in it? Something like blah-country.tdl. bl-ah.tdl? blah-software?
Best Regards

If that's the case, the next question is are you after general traffic or country specific traffic? If it's a specific country, get the TLD for that country (i.e. .co.uk). Otherwise I'd consider a more general one (like a .com). The country specific domains help primarily with country recognition and ranking for that country's search (i.e. google.co.uk)
Who owns your "blah".tld? Do they have a legitimate purpose for it? Do the makers of the software have an international trademark for their software name? If they're just squatting, you could have the ICANN give you the domain. Takes a bit but could help if you're trying to sell the brand.

Thank you Highland, I think we have to start a new site.

Don't get hung up by the keyword-in-domain concept. It plays a role mostly when you're looking at starting a new site. Switching URLs (especially TLDs) is painful, since you lose some steam your current site has. Work on your on-page optimization and build a social media campaign. Build what you have into a winning SEO strategy. There's no reason why unrelatedsoftware.com can't rank well for "blah"

Best way to give away rank?
We have a set of branded and unbranded keywords that we want our product site to rank very high for. Right now, our support site owns the first page of rankings for most of the keywords we care about. What is the most efficient way to give the rank currently enjoyed by our support site to our product site? Both have very high domain authority and tons of backlinks. Here are some factors that might apply: Support site has lots of copy including these keywords, while product site doesn't (yet) Support site doesn't currently include a lot of links to the product site (and vice versa) They're on the same domain -- support is at support.domain.com, product is on www.domain.com Support site has many more pages and their URLs are more semantically related to keywords I know there are lots of structural improvements implied by the above -- on the product site, increase the amount of copy (and landing pages) focused on keywords and significantly improve internal links, etc. But I'm wondering if the fact we control both sites gives us any options we wouldn't have in a competitive situation?

301 or Keep 2 Chocolate Best Sellers SEO?
Hi All, So we have two best selling organic chocolates that are very similar. http://www.santabarbarachocolate.com/bulk-organic-dark-chocolate-72-without-soy-lecithin/ and http://www.santabarbarachocolate.com/bulk-organic-dark-chocolate-72-without-soy-lecithin/ Because we are a small company it would be ideal to offer only one of these chocolates due to the cost of making it from the raw cacao. This is the question: From a SEO page rank perspective, do we get better rank by 301 redirecting one chocolate to the other thereby generating more traffic through traffic consolidation to one chocolate. Or do we get better SEO rank by having two chocolates on the site that both get clicks with different content? Basically it is a question of divided forces. Thanks for your help, Jason

Does 'XXX' in Domain get filtered by Google
I have a friend that has xxx in there domain and they are a religious based sex/porn addiction company but they don't show up for the queries that they are optimized against. They have a 12+ year old domain, all good health signs in quality links and press from trusted companies. Google sends them adult traffic, mostly 'trolls' and not the users they are looking for. Has anyone experienced domain word filtering and have a work around or solution? I posted in the Google Webmaster help forums and that community seems a little 'high on their horses' and are trying to hard to be cool. I am not too religious and don't necessarily support the views of the website but just trying to help a friend of a friend with a topic that I have never encountered. here is the url: xxxchurch.com Thanks, Brian

What's the best way to handle crawling of photo gallery?
When you have a photo gallery with many search filters and loads and loads of pages, is it best to block all the filters and use google's pagination code? Ex: http://photo.net/gallery/photocritique/filter This site has pages for many different queries. While the page titles are unique, the pages are showing duplicated content.

Correct use of Canonical link vs 301 redirect
Hi All, Seeking yet more advice. SEOMOZ tools have told me I have duplicate content on one of my sites and I am keen to clean this up. I am not to familiar with the following so thought I would ask. The duplicate content is shown on : www.mysite.com www.mysite.com/index.html Obviously I only see index.html when I check the code so what is the best method of resolving the duplicate content, Canonical or 301? Can you give me an example 🙂 Thanks all
