GA mediums
-
I know this may be an easy question, but I keep seeing mediums titled SEM and (not set) in my GA.
I can't seem to find the Google definition. Does anyone know what this means?
-
That's interesting so thank you for that.
I assume this has to be something from a CPC campaign I had set up for three months. And out of this three month period, I had 2 visits with SEM and 2 from web. Not sure what this means other than the target might not have been captured correctly

When I see SEM I guess Search Engine Marketing, but if you weren't the one that defined the medium and there's noone else working in Analytics/Adwords or doing your link building, then that seems unusual.
When I run across this problem I have a custom filter set up in GA to track the exact URL of the referrer. I just add that "user defined value" field when looking at referrers and it typically says the exact URL they came from. Use method #1 on this post: http://www.reubenyau.com/google-analytics-hack-obtaining-full-referring-url/

Cross-domain / subdomain tracking in GA?
Hi there, My client has a site website.com and a booking engine, booking.website.com They are currently tracking the main site and the booking subdomain as two separate properties in the same GA account. The issue is we can't see where users are originating on the subdomain property; it's all being counted as referral. My understanding is we need to set up subdomain tracking using Google Tag Manager in order for GA to pass the user data between the two subdomains. This is fine, except for this one line I am reading on Google's guide to cross-domain tracking: Subdomains If you have updated your tracking code to analytics.js, then no additional configuration is required to track subdomains. You can use cross domain tracking to collect data from a primary domain, like www.example.com, and a subdomain, like www.subdomain.example.com, in a single Analytics account property. That last line makes it sound like we should be using cross-domain tracking for this purpose. Are we correct in setting up subdomain tracking and NOT cross-domain tracking to be able to track users across subdomains on the same domain?

Comparing user behaviour in GA
Hi Does anyone know, can advise a process, for how to compare user behaviour (time on page, bounce rate etc) for a major site section/category page that's changed its url since a new site upgrade (so effectively 2 different pages i presume) with the old page version (say comparing U.B between the two pages and between June this year vrs June last year) in Analytics / Cheers Dan

GA profile when migration domains
I'm migrating a .co.uk domain to .com and am trying to decide if I should reuse the same Google Profile (if I can?) or create a new one. If I choose to reuse the same profile so it has historical data, does anyone know if it's just a matter of keeping the same UA profile identifier in place on the page? Or do I have to change anything on the actual profile in GA as well to say "start pulling data from .com now"?

Since the 6th June there has been a serious drop in search impressions and clickthroughs in my GA + webmaster accounts.
Since the 6th June there has been a serious drop in organic search impressions and click throughs in my GA + webmaster accounts for my website. This leads me to believe my site has been punished for something? Where would be the best place to start diagnosing the issue causing the drop in search traffic? 2T9hz.jpg

Tracking Multiple Top Level Domains in GA
Hi, I am setting up Google Analytics for www.example.co.uk and www.example.ie Is this as simple as just adding GA tracking code 'track Multiple top-level domains'? With this method how can I distinguish between each site's incoming traffic? Do filters needed to be created? Thanks in advance 🙂

Help configuring GA Async code for an older CMS platform
Hey Guys, I don't know if anyone can help or not, but my CMS support seem to not be interested in helping me configure the GA Async code for whatever reason. I am pretty sure the code is firing twice on the site and is masking the true bounce rate. I want to maintain tracking of e commerce transactions and event tracking, but It is beyond me how to configure the A sync code to track these events accurately. I do not want to start hap haphazardly experimenting, so I am asking for help instead. At present our CMS has to have GA tracking enabled on some code in the site, I imagine this populates the GA with the transaction info. here is a link to the support forum I am using to try to find a solution. http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=81704&whichpage=2 I have been over the GA forums too. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
