Any thoughts on why Nextag and MonsterMarketPlace are linking to our site?
-
I'm looking in WMT at the crawl errors and I noticed that our website has gotten a lot of Not Found crawl errors that seem strange.
A lot of these not found pages are Display URLs that I use in PPC advertising, but not actual redirects (i.e. explorica.com/EducationalTrips). When I looked at how these links were being found, the inbound links were coming from Nextag.com and monstermarketplace.com, two sites that our company has never had a relationship with. We're an educational travel company, so we'd have no reason to.
When I followed the links, it looks like it's coming from their "Sponsored Links," but these aren't Google or Bing Ads. We don't even advertise on the content network. Example link: http://www.monstermarketplace.com/starters-and-alternators/alternator-motorola-style-12v-51a-10376 (the ads do rotate so my site might not appear when you check it out).
Anyone ever had experience with this type of issue?

Our campaigns are running on Search Partner and I thought that might be the case too, but the anchor text (which is the display URL www.explorica.com/educationaltrips) goes to the correct PPC page, so I'm not sure why the display URL is getting crawled. These ads aren't new, but I doubled checked the Display/Destination URL thing and they are correct.
Another thing I forgot to add is that these links have exploded in the last month and nothing major settings-wise has changed in our PPC account.

These are probably sites that are "Search Partners", so check your ad campaign to see if you have allowed both "Search" ads and "Search Partner" ads. I often feel that many of the "Search Partner" ads seem muchlike display network ads. The next thing I would check your ads to see if you have inadvertently put your display url into the destination url field on some of these ads.

Same person on my site, every day, for over 6 months??
I watch my Google analytics real time while I work and for the last 6 months, I've had one person on my site consistently during every Monday to Friday. It's only the home page there go on, it never shows they look anywhere else. But it's starting to concern me a little since it's been going on for so long. Does anyone have an idea what they could be doing? I do my own SEO, there is no one else working on my site. Thanks in advance!

Site Hacked: Is it Faster and Better to 301 or 404 Irrelevant URLs?
Hey Everyone, So our site was hacked which created a large amount of irrelevant URLs on our domain; resulting in thousands of 404 errors and pages coming up for searches unrelated to our brand. The question is now that the issues have been resolved (and site re-submitted) would it be quicker (and more ideal) to redirect important 404 errors that see traffic, have links…etc. although not relevant or just let everything 404 out? We’re not as concerned with offering a relevant user experience because these are not in our demographic but want to avoid these pages convoluting our analytics as well as issues that might arise from Google thinking these topics do apply. Any help or insight would be very appreciated. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or we could provide further details that might help. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thanks in advance. Best,

What type of links/redirect is Yahoo! using?
So I'm trying to figure out exactly what type redirect or hyperlinking Yahoo! is using on their article pages. For example:
Reporting & Analytics | | William.Lau
https://shopping.yahoo.com/blogs/fashionate/spring-clean-your-beauty-routine--10-tips-on-looking-fresh-this-season-000058218.html Hover over an external link, it shows you the ending URL. Right or left click it, it gives you a 302 redirect. When you actually left click it, it adds and "id" attribute, I assume for tracking. However, when you left click the the hyperlink, it no longer shows as a 302. I have limited working knowledge of web development techniques, so anyone with advance knowledge or have actually done this, it'd be helpful to understand this more.0 -
Homepage on page 2 for site:domain
Hi all, today I noticed that our homepage is located on page 2 if you do the site:domain query. As far as I know, the site:domain results mirror the importance in the eyes of Google. Some time ago, our homepage was the first result. I have to say that we do not often have changing elements or new content on the homepage, it is more like a static page. But still the most linked to page on the domain... What conclusion can I come to? Is our homepage of lower importance to Google than some time ago? Is it a problem for SEO? As we backed down our advertisments, the traffic from branded keywords fell the last months - could this be an explanation? And, most important: do I have to worry? (Besides, the SEO-traffic is fine and growing..)

Why did my site go from 1,000 Impressions to 0 impressions over the past couple days
so we have been doing a lot of reconstruction our website the past couple days with our navigation and moving stuff around. Now bare with me because i am a noob to SEO and i am still learning. But we went from a steady 800-1000 impressions everyday to a 0 since the first. you can check out our site here: www.hidguy.net Not sure if its because we are moving stuff around or what. But we can notice that our conversion rate has dropped and we have had traffic but no conversions and no orders. Is what we are doing bad or is this normal?

Trackbacks vs Links: What's the Difference?
Our Google Analytics social pages report isn't showing several of our links. And several links are from high quality sources, such as about.com. Does anyone know why this may be?

Custom GA tracking and link value
Hi I'm working on a real estate agents web site which has a lots of links coming from paid listings in real estate linstings sites (this in France so I'm not sure examples will mean anything but basically the agents have 900 house listings in each site and each listing has a backlink) In analytics these are classified as referals and that's fine for the moment But because sites provide different types of links, we are considering tagging all paid links with analytics utm codes. Mainly to learn which ads are actually providing qualified traffic (providing contacts). I'm guessing that currently these links, there are thousands, bring seo value to my client's web site and are not considered as paid links. Will adding the analytics codes to these links cause a loss of their value by clearly indicating to Google that we paid for them? What's the current thinking on this? I'm tempted not to be worried about being honest about the origin of these links but I'm worried that there is a real danger of loosing current ranking Any arguments FOR tagging paid links ? Thanks for you help Neil
