Duplicate content - 6 websites, 1 IP. Is the #1 site knocked down too?
-
Yes I know, running multiple websites on 1 IP isn't smart. 6 Websites with duplicate content on 1 IP is even worse. It's a technical issue we can't solve quickly.
Thing is, our #1 website, which has the highest DA and PR, was the first website with all this content. All other websites we're running were launched a few months, and some a few years, later. All content was copied from the #1 website.
I'd say the other websites would get knocked down by Google, because they duplicated the content. Google should see that our #1 website was the first that uploaded this content. Therefore our #1 website should rank normally.
Questions is: What does Google think of duplicate content when all websites are on 1 IP? Is, or will our #1 website get punished as well?

Thanks for helping everyone.
We rewrote content for a few websites, and no-indexed a few.
It's not worth the risk.
We can rewrite URL structure in the future, but I think rewriting the content has solved the issue. -
If you want to rank multiple domains for the same content, in that case canonical tag won't do it. Also, keep in mind that with your current structure you are risking everything including the main-website. I am sure you read what EGOL mentioned. Its not worth the risk. I would concentrate on the main-website first and do whatever it takes to separate it from the rest of the websites. If you still really really have to do the other domains/websites, I would do the following: 1. Change the Product Names, Descriptions, Image file-names etc as much as you can. Make them unique. Honestly, there's no shortcut to this. 2. Separate the sites in terms of domains and hosting and do not interlink the sites to each other. 3. As much as possible, use a completely different CMS/URL structure.

I know someone who had several duplicate sites on same server with links connecting them. All of the sites disappeared from google and have been gone for over a year. They are still in Bing.

Hi Thiago,
Thanks for your answer, good point.
I do know I have to rewrite content on our other websites. We could use canonicals for all websites linked to the #1 website. But we also want to rank separately under different domains.
What I do want to know is: Does Google punish our #1 website?
-
Hi!
I think Google should imagine that your site is trying to rank better using duplicated content.
Maybe you could use rel canonical tags for all this content to show Google that this content came for that place, and is the #1 site. Than you can create new content to the sites that are coming now for optimization.

How do I stop someone from hijacking my site?
I had lost a lot of search engine rankings & it almost put me out of business. I worked a lot on the site in April and in May my sales rebounded 37%+ almost back to where they typically are. I have blamed Panda and saw another Panda update in May and my traffic is declining again. Today I happened to decide to check what pages were being indexed and I also noticed that when I published an update this morning it said the page "<cite class="_Zd">www.cheaptubes.com/index2.asp</cite>" exists on the destination server but not in current site and it asked if I wanted to delete it. I said no at the time but am going to delete it right after this question. I went to google & put "site:cheaptubes.com" into the search. My website has about 50 pages but google has "About 2,160 results" @ 10X per page. The first four pages are mostly my pages but I noticed even on the first page, 3rd result was for Nike shoes and it isn't my site. Someone has hacked my site and put up over 21,000 pages! That must be the real reason behind my website problems, right? How do I stop this from happening again? Is this having the negative effect that I fear it is?

Modifying Content to Avoid Duplicate Content Issues
We are planning to leverage specific posts from a US-based blog for our own Canadian blog (with permission, of course) but are aware that this can cause duplicate content issues. We're willing to re-write as much or as little as we must from the initial blog posts to avoid duplicate content issues but I have no idea just how much we will need to re-write. Is there some guideline for this (e.g., 25% of content must be re-written)? I've been unable to find anything. Thank you in advance!

Page Content?
So I have review pages for websites on my site, each website has a review around 400-500 words. Recently I had my writers write 2 additional articles on each site but about something they have there. My thinking was interlinking them allowing them to rank individually etc. However now after looking around etc.. I see that content that is upwards of 1000 words or more might be more powerful and the way this is all written etc.. I could easily put it all on one page.... So my question is do I go with 3 pages or 1 page. I can see strength in both

Can I share share my content with other sites either as a individual post or RSS or will I be encourage duplicate content on the web and upset Google
Hi, I have a new site http://www.homeforbusiness.co.uk. I want to encourage traffic to the site by sharing some of my content with other related websites which have a higher PR ranking and traffic for a link to my site. Is this going to upset Google re-duplicate content and devalue my site and stop any organic rankings in the future? Equally some high PR sites which have a good synergy with mine such as http://thewomensbusinessclubs.com/ allow me to add my RSS feed with their blog network. Is this a good thing to do or not for the same reasons as above? Or can I only do the above my creating fresh content? Thanks, Elizabeth Conley

Someone wants to syndicate my content but I'm afraid
I GOT THE FOLLOWING EMAIL: Hi, I visited your site and would like to connect regarding nSphere syndicating your content into our search platform. We are interested in syndicating your content into our network. There’s no cost for this, we ask you to place a module on your site that reads your content and syndicates it into our network of millions of users. You only need to place a simple JavaScript code on your site. I have the code, but I would like to speak or email with you first. This module acts as search tool for your users as well. Can you email me or send me your number and a good day/time to connect? Thank you in advance.

Director of Media Integration I'M AFRAID OF DUPLICATE CONTENT. SHOULD I JUST IGNORE THIS; IS IT SPAM; OR COULD THIS BE AN OPPORTUNITY? I'M THINKING I SHOULD BE SUSPICIOUS OF THE FACT THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN PROVIDE A URL.0 -
A site review please
Hi, first post here so hope i have posted this in the right place. From reading the forums a number of people have asked for site reviews and received some very good feedback so I thought I would jump aboard too. One of my companies, Digital Cow, is based around the world of affiliate marketing and had been doing very well until recent Google changes killed the whole process of making sites based around other people's datafeeds. Through considerable testing we have countered this by increasing the blend of duplicate content and unique, niche related, content. As a result a website we launched about 2 months ago is currently getting around 350 unique hits a day but seems to have stagnated. We know the potential is there for thousands of daily hits on this site and well over 20,000 hits a day on all our websites, but we are having issues with Google at the moment. One week we could be position 10 for a keyword, next position 90, then back to position 10 again and so on. In the last week some 95 keywords moved up the ranking and 62 moved down - we are seoing for a couple of hundred keywords. A small sample of some of these words and our ranking for them are listed below bodysuits women 13

Given it's an ecommerce site there are limits to the content we can add on the homepage. Many thanks Carl0
