Redirect not picking up any link juice
-
Hi,
We recently had a domain name change, as we had an established site we had all pages redirected to the new domain.
This was over a month ago but despite the redirect SEOmoz doesn't recognise any links to and from the site.
Is this due to simply time duration and SEOmoz can't pick up on any redirected info, or could there be a problem with the redirect?
Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,
It is likely that it's just a time issue. OSE updates about once a month, and the last update was February 29th. The crawl was completed before that date, and may have been completed before all of your redirections. The next update should be released on April 10th, and that should have much better results for you.

The OSE will pick the redirect, but when checking your new domain using OSE do not expect to see links that are pointing to your old domain. This doesn't mean your old redirected domain isn't passing any links juice. OSE will show your old domain as a 301 redirect to your new domain.

I am fairly new to the SEOmoz tools, myself (but I like them a lot) did you trying running it with and without www.? Sorry - just trouble shooting. I have noticed with some domains that if you run through Open Site Explorer without the www it returns 0 links but when you add the www it finds the links.
-
Yeah, Google picks it up but the domain doesn't return anything on here.
I will have to find out about the 301s, but is there anything else that could be causing this?
-
Interesting, does Google pick them up? (using a links: search or checking webmaster tools). I hate to ask but they are 301s, correct?

Is there a limit to Internal Redirect?
I know Google says there is no limit to it but I have seen on many websites that too many 301 redirects can be a problem and might negatively affect your rankings in SERPs. I wanted to know especially from people who worked on large ecommerce site. How do they manage internal redirect from one URL to other and how many according to you are too many. I mean if you get a website that contain 300 plus 301 redirections within the website, how will you deal with that? Please let me know if the question is not clear.

Should I do a 301 redirect
Hi Everyone, Hope you can help me out here. I have .co.uk & .ie website with similar content. On a particular section of the .co.uk website it is updated daily (Q&As, Blog posts etc) .ie does have this section but to a lesser degree, no daily updates etc, I was wondering if we should simply do a 301 redirect when someone is on the .ie website to .co.uk, it means the user is getting a much better experience however not entirely the consequences from search engines on this? Thanks

Where is the 301 redirect?
Hi, in the last week I take an issue for 301 permanent redirect for a subfolder in the main website! In that folder i have a index.php file for a google map fullscreen edition and the only link who connects the wordpress website with the subfolder is only a direct link! Is that an error of seomoz app or something else? Thanks 1.jpg

Redirecting 404
Hi. I'm working on a wordpress site, which got some old deleted pages indexed and now shows a 404 (also in the results) As these old pages earlier got content and probably also some links pointing towards it, what would then be best practice to do? Should i make an 301 redirect? Make the 404 noindex?

301 Redirect Questions
I have a site I built on a wisiwig editing platform that will not allow a 301 redirect. The site has already been remade and I need to point it to another domain. To do the redirect, can I change it to another domain host that will allow a 301 or will that make me loose the authority of the site? I may not be able to move the content of the site. Please help.

Do Backlinks to a PDF help with overall authority/link juice for the rest of the domain?
We are working on a website that has some high-quality industry articles available on their website. For each article, there is an abstract with a link to the PDF which is hosted on the domain. We have found in Analytics that a lot of sites link directly to the PDF and not the webpage that has the abstract of the article. Can we get any benefit from a direct PDF link? Or do we need to modify our strategy?

301 Redirect Domain or 301 Redirect Domain + Interior Pages
Hello - My company acquired another company in our industry and our IT team immediately set up the acquired companies domain name as a an alias to our site. This created a duplicate version of our website under another domain name and Google started ranking interior pages from the aliased acquired site for several top keywords that were previously held by our real site. Should we 301 redirect just the top level domain name of the acquired site to the real site or 301 redirect the top level domain name and the interior pages on the acquired site to help ensure that our real domain will take back the rankings it once had? Thanks!

Link Juice passing through a redirect of a disallowed URL
Hey guys! Suppose I disallow search bots from indexing anything on my secure server in my robots.txt, and 301 redirect all of my secure server traffic to my non-secure site. Will the search bots see the redirect before they realize that they're disallowed from accessing that page? Or will they see that page is disallowed and not follow the redirect? Should I change my robots.txt to allow search bots to crawl my secure site so they can find the redirects?
