Is it Helpful to Add a Dynamic Blog Feed to Your Homepage?
-
Do you think it helps SEO significantly to add a feed on your homepage that shows a snippet of your latest blog posts? If yes, have you seen any results from doing this?
-
It is a simple Perl program that we wrote. It reads the feed and writes it in our desired format to a file. That file is then inserted into pages as a server-side include.
We have that program set up to execute hourly as a server cron job.
It is an easy read-write program.
The category includes are written at the same time. For each post the Perl program looks for category assignments and writes each of them to a server-side include specific for that category.

That is neat EGOL. Do you use some custom programs/plugins to "rewrite" the feed ?
-
I have a program that scrapes my RSS feed and rewrites it into one of the columns of my homepage. It displays the post title as anchor text and a few words. This promotes all new blog posts to homepage visitors and passes a high PR link into every new blog post. Using crazyegg I can see that lots of people click those links.
This same program places the rewritten feed on other pages of the site. The posts are also added by category to relevant pages of the site. So within moments after a blog post goes out, dozens to thousands of links from relevant pages all across my site are pointing to it and sending PR and visitors.
Additional benefits are added word diversity to pages all over the site and fresh content added daily.

Why add .html to WordPress pages?
A site I may take over has a plugin that adds .html to the pages. I searched online but I’ve only found how to add it rather than why to add it. Is it needed? If I remove it, I’ll have to be careful with SEO / indexed pages and redirects. The site is running 3.x.x and 90% of the plugins have not been updated in over 5 years including this one. Before I update to 4.7.x, I am trying to understand the landscape (pros / cons) on why something could be used and if I need to find a suitable replacement for it.

Blogging on multiple domains
We have three different domains for geotargeting (za,uk and .com). Each site at at the moment has the same content with only country specific details changed like currency etc. What is the best way to get maximum SEO benefit when posting new content. When we post new content should we repost to all three domains (the same content) or will Google only index the url on the domain which is crawled first. Thanks in advance

Homepage no longer indexed in Google
Have been working on a site and the hompage has recently vanished from Google. I submit the site to Google webmaster tools a couple of days ago and checked today and the homepage has vanished. There are no no follow tags, and no robots.txt stopping the page from being crawled. It's a bit of a worry, the site is http://www.beyondthedeal.com

XML Feed
If a site has an xml feed being used by 100 companies to create the content on their site. Will those 100 sites receive any link juice? Is there any way content may be classed as duplicate across these sites? And should the page on the site where the xml feed is coming from have the page indexed first?

Is it a problem to have a homepage with a slug / URL ?
Hi, We are designing a web site for one of our clients, and using a home made CMS. I don't know how this CMS has been built, but anyways, in the end the homepage has a URL format which looks like this : www.mydomain.com/my-custom-url.html. No www.mydomain.com. Is it dangerous for SEO to have a slug/URL directly on the homepage ? Do you have experiences, cases where it has impacted a site negatively ? The main problem I expect is duplicate content (with Google seeing both www.mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com/my-custom-url.html as being different pages) but apparently the CMS is doing a 302 redirect from the root domain to the URL (I told my colleague it should at least be a 301). Sorry if this question seems like basic SEO knowledge, but I really can't find a definitive answer on the subject. Thank you very much 🙂

Also, I plan on submitting the RSS feed to to other rss feed sites. Should I submit the First RSS or the Feedburner RSS? Thank you kindly.
