Link Building Intricacies
-
I'm about to embark on link building campaign. I have several key phrases that I want to develop such as "health & fitness products" and "vitamins & supplements". My site is specifically targeted at Australia men. Should I also aim to include the words "Australia" and "men" in my link anchor text? Or should leave the qualifiers to the title tag for my destination url?
I'm also wondering, by having "health & fitness products" as my link anchor text and the same text in my title tag for my destination url, will that build value for the various keyword variations in my keyword phrase such as "health & fitness" and "fitness products"?
Thanks!

Given the over optimisation penalties that google are applying, I would use 90% brand anchor text and then vary the anchor text around the main keyword you are trying to rank for on each page
Exact match is pretty much dead or dying. Use your page content and internal linking to let Googel know the contextual relevance of the keyword you are attempting to rank for

In terms of “Australia” and “men”, I would suggest using Adwords-keyword tool or similar tools to see what people are searching try mixing product/category with gender terms e.g. “vitamins men”, “vitamins man”, “vitamins male”. If people are searching for these phrases I would suggest using them in your anchor text. I would expect people to be searching for man or male relates health and fitness products.
When using Adwords remember to use Broad, Exact and phrases match types, to get the whole picture.
If your site is clear Australia site (.au) or it’s marked within Google Webmaster > Site Settings > Geographic target as Australian, then you will probably not need to include Australia in the anchor text. But please check first.
I would recommend varying your link text on external sites. You can get idea of alternative phrases from Google Adwords>Keyword tool, Google Suggestions and “related searches” on the Google search page, also use a thesaurus. When the link is in a paragraph sometimes consider using site name or click here, so Google & Bing will look are the surrounding text.
In terms of on-site, I would have anchor text, file names, title pages and h1 titles in line with each other (not necessary the same). So when a visitor navigates from Google/Bing to your site & through your site they feel that they are getting what they clinked on, while building a strong SEO optimisation of the key phrase for that page.
Hope this helps.

My affiliate links are being crawled by Google. Is this a bad thing? Also, should I add rel: nofollow to affiliate links?
Hi All, I have an issue on Google Search Console. It seems all my affiliate links are being crawled. Is this a bad thing? The reason I found out is that all but one link was flagged with a warming. It goes on to say that it was blocked by robots.txt. The strange thing is that I've not set any links to be blocked in robots.txt. Also, should affiliate links be nofollow? I'm asking because I was recently sent this article by Yoast on how to properly cloak my affiliate links without using a plugin. https://yoast.com/cloak-affiliate-links/ In the method, they apply the nofollow and noindex rules to the links. I'm just a little confused on how to go about affiliate links the SEO friendly way.

Looking for a way to crawl and test validity of affiliate links at scale. Ideas?
Hey all, I'm on the hunt for a service that will crawl our affiliate links and let us know when they return an error. I need to know that the last URL in the chain is returning a 200 over thousands of pages and links on a continual basis. The hitch is that most crawlers like Screaming Frog will return all of our links as working because it's only testing the first step, and this really requires a cloud solution anyway. Anyone happen to know of something? Edit for clarity's sake: I need something to check entire redirect chains in bulk that isn't a Wordpress plugin, isn't a website where you plug in a URL and it cuts you off after the first 100 results, and has the ability to crawl the site and provide reporting on a continual basis. Tweeting affiliate links...?
I work in the music business & am published music producer. I'm an authority in my niche. Yada yada. I have a website that sells products to other music producers. I recently set up an affiliate partnership with someone who is also in the music business but on the management side. She is not an authority to my customers as far as music making goes. But she does have a huge following of people who are EXACTLY who I am targeting. She has been tweeting my affiliate links. The traffic has been great, but the purchase response has not been. I've had much better responses from reviewers and other music producers who have tweeted my links. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the most effective ways of tweeting affiliate links? Thanks!

Amazon Links destroyed my rankings, I removed them, will my site recover?
Hello, Last week I got the glorious idea to put amazon affiliate links on my website. I didn't put a rel=nofollow on them or deindex the pages they were on. Precisely I put some reviews and 10 different amazon links on one page and I put that into my navigation so all inner pages were linking to that page. When Google crawled my page again, I had a 60% traffic drop. 3 days later when I found out what caused this (amazon links) I completely removed the site containing those links and removed all links to that page from my site. Now my rankings are still down, will my site recover from this or is it lost? And how long would you think it'll take?

What is the negative effect of getting affiliate links to your domain?
Are the negative effects of affiliate links to your domain bigger than the positive effects? Is it better to use a subdomain for your affiliate campaigns? (Because of linkprofile no follow links or time on page effects?) Thanks for responce!

MicroSites built for unique theme for targeting customers with Build in Shopping Cart
I now that microsites have been frowned upon by may marketers as well like by many marketers. One of my ideas is say you have many different products on one website but sometimes it is a bit difficult to really find. We have built an shopping cart that allows our vendors to build a store and use the cart as their own but running off our servers. What if you take that and combine it with an affiliate marketing strategy but could control the content for each site. Let's say we build a site themed for Weddings and only had those products available in the cart for that theme and it catered information about the product for use for Weddings. Another example would be Baseball: We did the same concept with the shopping cart only having the baseball products on that site. We would provide the details that this is powered by the main company and is a sister site. Could this type of idea be beneficial to extend our products for people looking for the product via nitch vs just random? No link would go back to the main site as it would be it's own site. I am calling a microsite only because it is like one in combination of an affiliate site but without a tracking code link but a place where the customer can buy directly from without leaving the site.

Best Way for Resellers to Use Outbound Links to Software Demos
I have a software reseller site that wants to have ever-present linking buttons to demos of the software they sell--the demos are on their software vendor sites. My concerns relate to SEO and leaking link juice; but, also to constantly providing visitors with the exit door. What are the best practices for such a situation?
