Is it bad to insert links to other sites and use bold on keywords?
-
Hi,
This is a question I always had doubt about, and would be very grateful in to know your opinions. Is it bad to link to other sites? Can this causes problems to my blog?
I frequently insert links in keywords, etc, for other sites. Many times, for sites greater than mine, and I heard from some people that this is bad. Is this correct?
In last days, I have used, in some links, the atribute "nofollow". This is good, or not? In a case, for example, when linking to Wikipedia, is it good to use "nofollow"?
And about keywords: I'm mostly using bold on them. Is it good, or not?
This subject always makes me think. I would be very grateful for any help.

Very good, Dr. Peter.
Thanks for your explanation. I think I am now beginning to understand.

Marisa's right - we're seeing evidence that trusted outbound links can actually help a site, not harm it. Nofollow really came out of problems where sites had a lot of links they couldn't vouch for. For example, if you have a blog that allows comments and 100s of people comment, you can't tell if all of those links to their sites are legit, relevant, etc. So, you'd add nofollow to say "I can't vouch for this link" (that was the original intent, anyway). When you've chosen the resource and it's relevant to your site, let Google follow it.

Hi Marisa, Thanks again for your help. I understood.

Is it good, but don't overdo it. There is such a thing as over-optimization. Don't bold every single instance of a keyword. Just to it once per keyword per page. And most important, only do it when it seems relevant. Remember, you're designing for humans, not bots. If it bolding a keyword in a certain spot would leave your audience scratching their heads, I'd think twice.
And while you're at it, don't have too many instances of the same keyword on a page. That does more harm than good. Once again, think about your audience and what sounds natural.
Also, it's OK to nofollow links to lower quality sites; it's probably even best. It's really up to your judgement. After reading that SEOmoz post, I think you'll be able to determine when to use nofollow and when not to.

Hello Marisa,
Thanks for the information and for sharing the post.
So, I was doing wrong when putting "nofollow" when linking to greater sites. I always done a lot of confusion with linking and "nofollow".
And, regarding using bold text on keywords: is it good?

There was recently a blog post on SEOmoz that actually shows the value out outbound linking in blog posts.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/5-reasons-you-should-link-out-to-others-from-your-website
But contrary to what some may say, it is a good thing. Especially if you are linking to high-quality sites such as Wikipedia, it shows Google that your blog posts are informative and helpful.

Link building - anyone use this technique?
I have had a client come and ask me to do some link building, they are wanting to use a strategy of buying expired domains and creating a single page website with some keyword links back to the main website. Seems like an old idea at best, has anyone used it or is it risky

Site wide back links
Hi, One of our sites has a site-wide link from another site. So, Google sees 6700 pages from that site link to one of our pages. Is that something to be concerned about? The other site is http://www.daum.net/ We also have 2000 pages that blogspot.com links to us from. Both these sites have high domain authority, so I would hope all those links score well. But I certainly don't want to be penalized for links that appear spammy. Thank you in advance.

Keyword Alt text in Links
I am wondering about alt text in links. My website was ranking in the top 1-5 position for all my main keywords from 2006-2012. I took a big hit in april 2012 and my rankings tanked with the penguin update. I've really just left seo alone for the past year as I assumed my rankings would come back, obviously not. I am still ranked 90-120 for my main keyword a year later, other keywords I am still ranked between position #7-11 which I am happy enough with. I did not receive any warnings from google so I'm not de-listed and don't have a manual penalty. My main problem was if someone wanted to link to my site I just asked them to use the exact same alt text in the link pointing to my site. So after using seomoz explorer I see I have just over 2700 links which Is great because I never approached anyone for links I just told them the alt text I wanted when anyone approached me, which shows people felt my site was good. My main problem is I have 600 of the 2700 links with the exact same alt text. Should I use the disavow tool to remove links with that key word phrase? Would that help? I look forward to any help with this. Thanks.

Is it worth me considering a reciprocal linking request to my authority site ?
My web site is www.swimmer.co.uk it sells waterproof mp3 players & is the authority site in its niche I have no out going reciprocal links I don't have advertising or encourage reciprocal linking as I thought it may devalue the sites quality & link juice I have had a reciprocal link request from a swim wear based website called www.onlyswim.com that has a reciprocal linking sub-page with many varied links on it that are not just on the subject of swimming I don't think I will get any direct traffic from this website so I was wondering if ts worth me agreeing to a reciprocal link page I think we both have a PR of 2 **Any comments would be much appreciated ** In research to try & answer my own question I have just read this on wikipedia "Reciprocal linking between websites is no longer an important part of the search engine optimization process.Google and other search engines now do not give credit to reciprocal linking as it does not indicate genuine link popularity."

Link Directories - Good or bad?
I've just done a search on open site explorer for a competitors site that has is ranked number one. Most of their highest authority backlinks are from link directories. I just read an article on here saying to stay away from directories that state things like 'seo friendly directory'. Many of my competitors links are from these kind of sites! Will it harm me to get links from such sites? It seems to be working for my competitors.... confused.com!

Hi can anyone recommend any news sites that you can gain links from submitting your news. I did find a really good one where you can write a whole news story or share a news story and it generated a lot of traffic but shockingly i have lost the address of the site. Any recommendations would be great

Has anyone seen positive results from using Submiteaze to submit to directories? I know an SEM agency that uses it for clients' link building campaigns, but I don't know if it is worth buying. Are there better alternatives?
I would like to start a link building initiative at my company for a new website, and would like to know if the value of the links built using Submiteaze would be worth the money.
