What is Best Platform to Build Website - SEO in mind
-
Hello...
I am going to be creating two new websites shortly that will need to be built with SEO in mind.
These will not be e-commerce sites, but instead will be informational with a couple pages of content on each.
One will be used to get people to input their contact info and that info will be sent to our call center where we will call them back from.
The other site will be heavily used for graphics, but still needs to have room for content (seo purposes)...
Can you guys please recommend what platform i should have these sites written on (and please remember I need to do this on whatever is the most SEO-Friendly)...
Thanks

I recently took on the task of performing SEO on a several hunded page Joomla site. It is truly a nightmare to work on compared to WordPress.
Joomla may have come a long way - but it has miles to go. I recommend against this platform for anyone who cares about SEO.
-
I have used Wordpress / Thesis and agree with its being a great platform for SEO. In fact, I have taken purchased HTML themes and converted them to Thesis only to see the PR grow quickly.
Recently, I have been using Genesis from STudioPress (as I like their themes as a starting point).
Seeing similar SEO results - any observations?

Joomla is great for community based sites which require forums and members etc. Wordpress is far simpler for the majority of use cases.

We currently manage over 50 sites and we are using 20 different CMS's. Wordpress is the best CMS to use. Easiest and SEO user friendly. You can choose any seo template to make it look like yu want it without having to do much coding.
Use SEO Yoast or all in one wordpress plugin for seo. they are both free.
Good luck....Make it happen.

Thanks for all of the replies.... The help is greatly appreciated

Joomla has came a long way with being SEO Friendly. I SEO and develop sites on this platform every month. The new version has came out.. which has tons of add on's. I truly believe that Joomla will be your best bet. The sky is the limit.
-
We favor Wordpress but Joomla is just as good, however the real point that should be made is that if the SEO on and off the site isn't done well you won't rank regardless of which platform you use. Since you're creating a squeeze page, which I guess you will supplement by adding a blog, I would use Wordpress
-
I'd argue that it is structured simply for making adding PHP and HTML so much easier. Rather than having to in and modify template files in a theme to make changes, you can do it all from one file in Thesis.
Not that this has anything to do with SEO, however.
-
I'd like to add a vote for Wordpress, but nearly any theme which uses standard Wordpress code can be optimized with SEO in mind using a few choice plugins.
I'd actually vote against the Thesis theme though, as it's quite complexly structured code and very difficult to edit if you're not a fan of all those hooks and filters, and you just want to get in there with HTML, PHP, and the default wordpress structure (single, page, archive etc); hundreds of different files for different loops and theme parts.
-
CMS stands for Content Management System and Wordpress is one of the most popular of the many hundreds that are out there. Thesis is one (again of many) themes that can be applied and modified to a site to give it a look and feel to a site.
-
Thanks.... is the wordpress thesis theme CMS?

There is really no such thing as best platform per sé in my opinion and there is a lot of spin out there about SEO ready and SEO friendly.
At the end of the day if your sites are going to be modest sites with useful helpful information for your clients it doenst make a difference what platform you sue once you follow solid site building and established content creation practices.
Admittedly Thesis and Wordpress (of which I use both regularly) make life easier for you but unlike clothes make the man platform does not make the ranking.
You can as easily rank with a set of static HTML pages as with a CMS as with a custom application for loading up images onto a set of pages. The amount of technical nous to make your changes will vary however from one to the other.
The sites as you describe sound to me like internal or 'closed' group sites that don't really need to rank so I wouldn't sweat that and go for any of the many CMS that are out there like Wordpress that make the addition of content a lot easier.

The Thesis theme is meant to be a "blank slate" on which you build designs. If you look at the Thesis Showcase you will see hundreds of websites that use the theme, all of which look entirely different. It also makes work easier for the web developer because it allows easy implementation of PHP hooks to insert design and content elements, as well as easy customization of CSS.
-
i'm not looking to make the sites myself, i'm just wondering what platform i should advise the web designer to use...
The wordpress thesis theme looks fairly similar to most wordpress themes..
-
I would recommend using the Thesis Framework for WordPress. It is what you might call a "smart theme" in that it is built with SEO in mind as top-priority. It also allows for very easy customization so that you can create a unique-looking website. Very powerful. It is, however, a premium theme but it is definitely worth the price.

What website changes (technical) SEOs can ignore confidently? Google's perspective!
Hi community members, I am looking after SEO at our company and there are lots of changes happening about our website; especially technical changes. It's hard for me to look after every deployment of the website like change of server location, etc. We generally agree that every change related to website must be notified by SEO to understand the ranking fluctuation and how search engines welcome them. I just wonder what technical deployments of a website I could confidently ignore to save time and give a go ahead to technical team without interrupting or waiting for my approval. Thanks

How can i embed my video into a table using SEO embed setting?
We use Wistia.com to embed our videos. They have different options for embed settings and we prefer to use the SEO embed setting, however, when we use that setting we aren't able to insert the video in a table side by side with another image or text. When we try, the video jumps out of the table and the table gets (for lack of a better work) out of wack. When we embed the video with the iframe embed setting, the video can be placed in a table with no issues, but then we don't get the SEO credit. We have our site in wordpress. I'm not sure if that has something to do with the tables getting messed up. Check out this link to see an example of how we want the video to show up. http://www.3000doorhangers.com/ Any suggestions as to how we can use the SEO embed setting within a table as shown in the above link?

WIX? is it any good for SEO
Hi people. I have just built my website www.bellagiolimousines.com.au using WIX. I am in the process of optimising for SEO, and after reading a couple of older posts i.e 2012; I read that some SEO consultants do not like WIX. However with their recent upgrades, I was hoping if anyone else has had any recent experience with WIX? I have spent a considerable amount of time building this site, and I don't want to waste anymore time in optimising it, if I am not going to receive a top 3 organic SERP. Hope to hear from someone real soon!

Which Hat of SEO (Black/White) Goes with this Green Lace Dress?
Doing some research (honestly) I came across this page: http://www.modcloth.com/th/green-lace-dress That page ranks very well for the phrase "green lace dress" - #2 in Google for me. I'm sure there's a good amount of links coming into it, but on the surface there's only 1 mention of green on the page and 2 mentions of lace. Looking at the code, you can see ModCloth is using the Quick View links below the products to display a more detailed description of the product - wherein lies many more instances of green and lace. So I ask: Which color of SEO hat goes with this green lace dress - Black or White? Is it good SEO to only show the product descriptions when the user initiates the Quick View? Or is it shady SEO to hide so much text from the immediate view of the user? Please select one and explain why.

What do YOU look for when reviewing technical website criteria?
Wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this. One of my clients was asking me what they thought of a certain website design company. They wanted to use this company because their designs were very beautiful but wanted to be sure that contracting them would be the right decision. After I made my formal review and recommendation I thought this might be a great topic of discussion for the amazing SEOMOZ community. So, what factors do you look at when determining which design firms are worth their weight?

Word Press Seo Errors/ Questions
Hi my name is Tina I am new here I hope you guys can help me out. I thought building my new site with Word Press was going to simplify things, however I have a ton of errors, and I am not sure what they are, or how to fix them. I am hoping someone could share with me a solution for these errors. I have 28 rel=canonical errors, I am not sure what this means, I understand it to mean my pages are similar, and this is to set a heirarchy between my pages. Please correct me if I am wrong. If I am correct would this be necessary to add if my main keyword was "widgets" and my home page was optimized for "widgets" and my next page was "blue widgets" and so on. While my pages are similar they are all optimized for different versions of my main keyword some using long tail keywords. Do you know of a plugin that can help solve this problem? Also does anyone have a plugin they recommend for G+ my G+ authorship verification is causing an error as well? I am using Head Space 2 I have used this seo plugin numerous times with great success it has been my favorite seo plugin. However, we have a portfolio that shows our clients websites, and on those pages Head Space will not let me enter a description tag. What plug in do you guys recommend with more control over each page? Another interesting issue is on one of our pages I optimized it for our Canadian clients, and now every page has been listed in Google.ca for the keywords it should have on Google.com. We are listed on Google maps, verified in Google places, and our address is on the site so they know we're from the USA however, the majority of our keywords are only listed in Google.ca. We're on page one for all of them, we are in the top three on most of them so that's not bad, but we want to be listed in Google.com as well. Any suggestions on this?

Need an SEO pro to build us a new fine art website
Hey Seomoz friends My friends and I started buying and selling art 5 years ago. We did it all on ebay. Two years ago I decided to try an attempt at building us a website to further our business outside of ebay. www.originalartbroker.com I used homestead.com software aka intuit to do this. I was able to get a lot of first page results in seo after a ton of work and willing to do a lot more. I'm sure the homestead site slowed my efforts down. I need more power 🙂 What we do. We sell fine art. We are trying to aspire to the leading seller of fine contemporary art online. We will do whatever it takes to get there. Our issue is not our product. Our issue is getting traffic to the site. I only have 175-200 visitors a day. I need better results for the keywords of our artists and inquires that surround them. We have a bounce rate of 70%, average time on site of 1 minute 50 seconds, and a slow loading site that is almost impossible to create individual pages for pieces (mgmt nightmare) Outside of our site we have blogs, squidoo pages, facebook account with 2500 fans, twitter page with 2k followers, youtube channel, and a blog on the site for new arrivals. We have a 200-250 piece on our site at any given time. We add probably ten pieces on average a week. We don't need any kind of ecommerce management software as most of our sales are done over the phone being that it is higher end art. I need a site that out performs my competition. I need to be in the top three when someone types in "leroy neiman" "peter max" and so on. I, with limited knowledge, need to be able to use the software everyday to upload new art as it comes in. I want every piece to have its own page so that I can also add pieces to a google merchant account. When I add new pieces under a certain artists and it creates its own page i want it to create h tags and an url extension for each product as I add them based off the discription and artists name. I would like some sort of blog integration to post our new arrivals as we get them. I would like some sort of customer capture. I am thinking something along the lines of them prociding email, name, and zip code to see the prices on the site. You are the seo pro so you know what it takes. I would like to know what a solution would cost to get us on the ground with more seo power. A site with speed that is easily indexed. It doesn't need to have a lot of bells and whistles. Please look at my site and let me know what you think. You can get an idea from that of what we are doing. Please give me an idea of what you can do and what it would cost. Thank you
