SEOMoz crawls skewing Avg Visit Duration in Google Analytics
-
Hello,
We are a UK based company.
Our Google Analytics account is showing a rise in Avg Visit Duration for 'Direct traffic' since we started using SEOMoz.
Are any other users experiencing this issue?
We tracked it down to City Seattle, and when doing an Advanced filter by removing Seattle, the results are normal again.
What does SEOMoz or other users recommend we do besides continuously using advanced filters?
We have enquired about excluding Roger's IP address, but have been told that Roger uses the Amazon cloud, so the IP is not static.
See attachment for screenshot of our Google Analytics account of Avg Visit Duration since we began with SEOMoz.

Thanks Nick, but that article doesn't seem to be about blocking Rogerbot, as Rogerbot seems to use 'Mozilla' equivalent as its browser value (from what I can tell).
After I posted the original question, I experimented with GA filtering, and managed to block City:Seattle. This is probably of not much use to USA websites as Seattle may count for a large chunk of traffic, however as we are based in UK it won't make much difference, and at least won't skew our Avg Time on Site results.

Hey there,
The Seattle traffic block looks like a good way to block rogerbot. I found this guide on how you can block rogerbot in your GA filtering. http://blog.yottaa.com/2011/03/google-analytics-how-to-segment-and-filter-out-robot-traffic
Give that a try and see if it works.

Thanks for the info. very interesting.
Sounds draconian but cant you identify and block out a block of IP's that would be used by Amazon?

Is there a way to filter all computers on a specific IPv6 network in Google Analytics?
Is there a quick way of filtering the IP addresses for all the computers on a network that's using IPv6? I want to filter out visits to our websites from the devices on our office network, but each computer (and phone and tablet) seems to have a different address. It _looks _like they all start the same way, though. One computer is xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:aaaa:aaaa:aaaa:aaaa, another is xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:bbbb:bbbb:bbbb:bbbb, my phone is xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:cccc:cccc:cccc:cccc, etc. Does this mean that xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx is the address for our network as a whole, and I can just set up a Google Analytics filter for "IP addresses starting with..."? Or would doing that also filter out hits from, like, every visitor within a 20 mile radius of our office? If I need to simply put in the individual addresses for each and every device, I will. I'm just hoping it doesn't come to that. Thanks!

Google analytics suddenly stopped tracking all my landing pages
Hey guys. I love the new update of GA. Looks so clean. So, of course, I was excited to see how my landing pages were doing. I went to behavior, all content, all pages. And I noticed it's only showing me 19 pages out of the 93 I have indexed. And none of the top ones at all! Can't find them anywhere in GA! Anyone seen this before? Thank you so much

How do you analyze a traffic drop with no historic Google Analytics data?
A client of mine has a large website with multiple sections (shop, forums, articles, etc.) that apparently had a significant reduction in rankings, traffic, and sales in the past. However, historic Google Analytics data is not available for the site, and I'm having troubles identifying anything concrete about the traffic drop, such as when it happened, what pages/sections it happened to, etc. The shop traffic drives most of the revenue, but it's a small number compared to the forums traffic, so it's hard to pick anything out of top-line trends like SEMrush offers. What tools or strategies might help in this situation?

Different transaction data social channel on Google Analytics
Hi there, On my ecommerce, in order to find out the number of transactions that came directly from my social channels I go to Acquisition->Channels and then I look at the column Transactions for the Social channel. Surprisingly this number differ from the one that I find under Acquisition->Social->Overview and then I select Transaction under Conversions. Then I look at Last interaction Social Conversions to find the number of transactions. The two quantities are totally different for a month window and they should be the same. Can any of you explain to me the reason why? Thanks and regards

Google Analytics
Is there any way around being able to set up 20 goals in Analytics? What if one of my clients want to set up 10 pages with separate actions to track on each page. Will then each actions count as a separate goal? If this is the case, how could I work around creating more than 20 goals? Would I have to look into hiring/buying a third party or separate software? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Does Audience Overview in goole analytics contain visits from adwords.
Hi everyone I set up a new adwords account for a company and according to adwords we received 700 hits to the site but none showed up in analytics and no enquiries were made. Now the two accounts (adwords and analytics) weren't connected at the time but I should have been able to see the increased visits in analytics anyway as it was a very new site and had no real traffic yet. Someone at Google repeatedly told me that "Audience Overview" (unique visitors) doesn’t include adwords visits only organic traffic. Is this right? Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought it included everything well an estimation anyway. If anyone could help that would be great as it seems a little fishy. Many Thanks,

Funnel Visualization in Google Analytics
Hello. I have a question about funnel visualization in Google Analytics where there is an eCommerce goal (i.e. add to cart, shipping, purchase) with the first step being mandatory. Issue:
Reporting & Analytics | | Unity
The amount of completed purchases reported in GA doesn't match the actual transaction figure via the eCommerce platform. Question:
I was wondering if anyone knows why this occurs? I have a few ideas on why however I haven't been able to locate any supporting evidence. So I was hoping to generate a few ideas from the SEOMoz community to help me investigate further. Any ideas welcome! Much thanks,
