Rankings Up and Down Every Single Week
-
This is so insanely frustrating. One week my client's rankings will be great, working up the second page and on our way to the first. The next week those rankings will drop (according to SEOMoz Rankings) to well below 50. The very next week those rankings will be back up on the second page.
It's like a pinball machine with a different rank every week. I'm doing absolutely nothing from week to week, and am not understanding why it's bouncing back and forth so much. I've never seen anything like it, actually. I've never had a client bounce up and down so frequently and in such huge numbers.
Any ideas? (http://erasedisease.com) Thanks

I see this is a Wordpress site.
Running a Web Page Test your real problem is the Time To First Byte - generally a poor figure here points directly at bottle necks with your server .
I see that you are using a number of jQuery scripts locally instead of through CDN. The first thing I would do would be to go into the function.php file and deregister those scripts and then register them so that they access the google depository for jQuery scripts and others.
This will help by decreasing wait time on parallel http request and that you will find some of the vistiors will have those scripts already cached. All this sounds complex, but it is really simple to do.
You can use the add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'your_function_name') to wp_dergister_scripts and wp_register_scripts . You just have to look for the name space that the theme registered the script to de_register it correctly. (lol this sounds hard)
easiest one is the jquery most themes use the 'jquery' for the namespace so it would be like this i:
add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'new_scripts');
function new_scripts() {
wp_deregister_script('jquery');
wp_register_script('jquery', 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js', false, '17.1');
wp_enqueue_script('jquery');
}
Because of the issue with TTFB, I would look into is a relatively new WordPress Centric hosting. I've just started using them and they are very good .... WP Engine they can help with the TTFB issues as they are running varnish cache and supposedly have something even faster in the works called TachyCache.

I feel you on that one, however it's completely out of my hands. The client had this site completely redesigned before I came along. It is what it is. Actually with some farther research I found that the load time on the Home Page was over 200 seconds...something is definitely wrong here.
-
All I can say is WOW!
If not for the rankings, change this for the users!
I can virtually guarantee that your bounce rates will go down and sales will go up if you get that load time down.
Hopefully that load time is with a slow dial up connection. Nobody with a modem waits that long. After 10-15 seconds the assumption is that the website is broken, and they leave....
-
Right, right...I mean that's basic, beginner SEO stuff. These are personalized search results, but search results based on SEOMoz Rankings Reports.
-
Google is not Google these days.
In addition to personalized search there are many variations of the SERPs that you can see when logged out of any Google service.
Your location can change the rankings.
Your browser can change your rankings.
Your previous searches can change your rankings.
I also believe that if you have two sites in the same SERP that one might be demoted significantly.
Soon they will be able to display different rankings to right-handed people and left-handed people.

Yes that could be the ONE issue causing the problem.
-
4. Their should be There!
NIce you could just copy and paste next time... lol
Fact is it can be ONE of these things most likely unnatural link building.
-
Their is no ONE problem....
ALL the issues brought up need to be addressed:
1. Get more varied anchor text links, get text links that reflect the other ingredients in your product as well as supplements, pills, and the like...
2. Get that load time down!!!!
3. Clean up the clutter, MAKE your client get it done.
ALL these things will help with bounce rate & customers buying.
-
PS - Load time on the site was at over 140 seconds...perhaps this is the root of the problem.

Interesting. It goes from 16 and 18 for "l-arginine supplements' (the exact keyword we want to rank for) to below 50. This happens week by week for the past 5 or six weeks.
The site has been live for quite some time now, but we recently redesigned about 7 months ago. It's never ranked well, but since I've come on board we've been working slowly up the rankings to the second page. Then, ever since we've managed to get on page two this bounce back and forth has been happening.
I consistently check webmaster tools and everything seems to be good as far as that's concerned. I mean it's crazy when you look at the overall traffic from week to week. One week we will have wonderful and consistent traffic, the next week we'll have absolutely nothing, almost as if we've been flagged, then the flag is removed, then flagged again. It's so very strange.
I agree about the look of the site, but that part is out of my hands. Bounce rate is consistently 55% to 66% every week.
-
This can really be one of many reasons.
This may be a case of unnatural link building. You have 617 links of which 594 are anchored "<a class="clickable title link-pivot" title="See top linking pages that use this anchor text">l arginine". Its best practice to use variations of your keywords when linking in.</a>
<a class="clickable title link-pivot" style="background-color: initial;" title="See top linking pages that use this anchor text">Also the home page looks very very busy. Too many colors and graphics, user interaction might be the issue, maybe people get to your site and leave because of the clutter.</a>
How long has this site been live? was it ranking well in the past (statically) and now its starting to lose ranking (de-indexing)?
Have you checked your webmaster tools?

Why Google de-rank a website.
Hi, I was inspecting a website which is covering the topic of best wheelbarrow of 2021, it is a new website and and starts ranking on google. But, after few days it got de-rank automatically and Moz is also not showing any result to that. I was wandering why this just happened and what should I do if I made my website and will not face this kind of situation?

Why is my site ranking so poorly compared to my competition?
I own a car shipping business (www.carshippingcarriers.com) and I was ranking very high last year, but around the end of August our site lost a TON of rank. Afterwards I had my SEO team at the time (no longer working with them) do a complete overhaul of the website (rewrote content, combined many pages together so no duplicate content issue, made it mobile friendly, etc.. Since then we continue to still lose rankings on Google. Yahoo and Bing seem to keep performing decently, but Google we are getting destroyed. I have been a member of Moz for a few months and I have been using the open site to check my competitors and their linking profile. One in particular, www.joescarshipping.com, has been ranking extremely well and the site looks horrible, doesn't have many links, hardly a social media presence, etc.. Compared my my website which has ton of content, articles on our website, social profile is great (tons of Google+ usage), not a ton of links so a decent amount of links, etc.. Why would a company like that be ranking so high while I keep falling? Any advice or reasoning as to what is wrong or what could be done to get better rankings? I am just at my wits end on this matter. 😕

Pointing Other URL to My Site? Good or bad for ranking.
A few years ago I purchased a few keyword rich domain names and set up some satellite sites. Spammy I now know. What should I do now? I own the domain names for at least another 3 years. Should I point them to my main site or would that hurt my main site ranking?

Penguin 2.1 update, ranking dropped.
Hi, My website was hit by Google's new update like never before, first my ranking dropped back in May when Google rolled out with their second Penguin update, back then i was outsourcing my SEO since most of the time i was working on optimizing my local maps. As soon as noticed my traffic dropped i start doing SEO my self, I removed over optimized keywords on website ( title, meta description) then i analyzed my link profile and found that i had a lot of commercial anchor text linking from spammy websites, mostly blog comments. Its been over 4 months since I used Google's disavow tools in hoping that will help me get my raking back, but i still see these spammy links in my profile, 90% of them are nofollow anyways , so i'm not sure if disavow tool helped me at all. With this Penguin 2.1 update my website ended up on page 4-10 for 90% of my keywords http://screencast.com/t/3bcw8LUxpj Im not sure what would be the best way out this, should i buy a new domain and start fresh?Please let me know if you want to take a look on my link profile and give your opinion. Looking forward to your help!

Need advice badly domain rank loss
I have a main domain and a sub domain that both were doing very well and after looking at the Moz history its obvious that panda and penguin affected my site considerably. My keywords are holding rank but my search results and traffic are way down. My question is if I just take my subdomain (which is really my bread an butter shopping cart) and I consolidate my sub domain with my main domain would this help? I would basically make my main domain the shopping cart and make them one site. This should change the links to all the sites. The problem is I will lose the backlinks if I do not do a 301 but I do not want to bring bad links over and my keywords are holding rank. What to do?

Lost ranking for top keyword
For the last 3 months we've been working on www.UneekJewelry.com to get it rank for "unique engagement rings" and got it to position 14 but since September 18th, 2012 that all changed. The website no longer ranks for our money keyword not even in the top 500. We haven't been building exact match keywords but using more phrase match and I can't tell if its because we don't have enough exact match or something else. We have been working on trying to figure out what the issue is as they still rank for other keywords like "unique engagement rings in los angeles", therefore we don't know if this is a keyword penalty or glitch in Google, can anyone give us any insight on what could cause such a drop in those specific keywords for our site. Most of the link building we have done for this client is from in content blogs. The only blog we were suspicious of we removed the article from that blog two days ago. The ranking have not come back. This was the last blog that the exact match keyword was used where we removed the article from: http://colorfuljewelry.blogspot.com/ Thanks,

How to 301 multiple domain names to a single domain
Hey, I tried to find and answer to this seemingly simple question, but no luck. So, I have one domain name with a website attached to it. I also registered all the other domain names that are similar to it or have different extensions - I want to redirect all the other domain names to my one main domain name without getting penalised by the big G. It looks like this: www.mainsite.com - this is my main domain I also have www.mainsite.com.au, www.mainsite.org, and www.mainsite.org.au which I all want to just redirect to www.mainsite.com I have been told that the best way to do this is a 301 redirect, but to do that you need to make a CNAME for all the other domains that points to www.mainsite.com. My problem is that I cannot seem to create a CNAME record for http://mainsite.com - I have it working for http://www.mainsite.com but not the non www record. What should I be doing differently? Is it just my DNS provider is useless? Thanks, Anthony
