Limit for words on a page?
-
Some SEOs might say that there is no such thing as too much good content. Do you try to limit the words on a page to under a certain number for any reason?
-
I like long pages. I have one longish article that is followed by over 500 comments which makes for a REALLY long page. The comments bring in a huge amount of long tail traffic!
-
I have never limited the amount of content. In fact, I always write the highest quality and relevant content I can. Since I do this, I don't run into an issue of having thin content. ALSO, I have never really tried to "optimize" for search engines. Instead, I optimize for conversions.
-
I have some articles that go 4000 to 5000 words accompanied by up to ten images, two videos, tables of data and reference lists that link out to many other websites.
These are some of the best performing pages on my sites.
These long pages provide broad and deep coverage of single topics and information about that topic that appeals to many people... .and the volume of long-tail keywords that these pages attract surprises me.
Although these pages rank in the top three positions on google for their root keyword the long tail traffic exceeds the head traffic by over an order of magnitude. That can vary depending upon the sophistication of searchers and diversity of subtopics in the niche.
-
I usually never limit it. I let the content writer decide based on how / what the topic is and I try not to restrict them to a certain word count. Short article or long, it should serve the purpose it's being written for and if it's for the user, which is what it should be, it should cover the article title in the right way and do justice to it.
I hope that helps.

Over 40+ pages have been removed from the indexed and this page has been selected as the google preferred canonical.
Over 40+ pages have been removed from the indexed and this page has been selected as the google preferred canonical. https://studyplaces.com/about-us/ The pages affected by this include: https://studyplaces.com/50-best-college-party-songs-of-all-time-and-why-we-love-them/ https://studyplaces.com/15-best-minors-for-business-majors/ As you can see the content on these pages is totally unrelated to the content on the about-us page. Any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve.

From page 1th to page 18th @ Google
Hello Mozzers! I have a question, you may help.. How may it be possible that a page ranking well (1th result) goes from 1th result to the 18th page just in 1 day? It doesnt seem to be any kind of penalization.. I now had all suspicious outgoing links to be nofollow (they were not before), this may be a cause .. (?) Do you have any other suggestion? Thanks

Can you 301 redirect a page to an already existing/old page ?
If you delete a page (say a sub department/category page on an ecommerce store) should you 301 redirect its url to the nearest equivalent page still on the site or just delete and forget about it ? Generally should you try and 301 redirect any old pages your deleting if you can find suitable page with similar content to redirect to. Wont G consider it weird if you say a page has moved permenantly to such and such an address if that page/address existed before ? I presume its fine since say in the scenario of consolidating departments on your store you want to redirect the department page your going to delete to the existing pages/department you are consolidating old departments products into ?

301 for a deleted page?
Which is in your opinion the best "301 practice" to notify Google that a web page does not exists anymore? For example: ...
Technical SEO | | YESdesign
---CATEGORY PAGE
-------SUBCATEGORY PAGE
------------ PRODUCT PAGE 1
------------ PRODUCT PAGE 2
------------ PRODUCT PAGE 3
... If you delete “PRODUCT PAGE 2” does it make sense to create in the .htaccess a 301 redirect towards the “SUBCATEGORY”? Do you have others tested methods to deal with this issue? Thank you in advance for sharing your opinions and ideas. YESdesign0 -
Is it better to delete web pages that I don't want anymore or should I 301 redirect all of the pages I delete to the homepage or another live page?

Are all duplicate pages bad?
I just got my first Crawl Report for my forum and it said I have almost 9,000 duplicate pages. When I looked at a sample of them though I saw that many of them were "reply" links. By this I mean the "reply" button was clicked for a topic yet since the crawler was not a member, it just brought them to the login/register screen. Since all the topics would bring you to the same login page I'm assuming it counted all these "reply" links as duplicates. Should I just ignore these or is there some way to fix it? Thanks in advance.
