Prospective new client it by webspam looking for new resource
-
Background:
Prospective client recently hit by webspam update. (I have verified hundreds of low-quality links, porn links, backlink exchanges etc.) They want us to step in and remove bad links and start over.Question:
What is the best way to examine all the links to determine which need to be removed? We can create the report from open site, but how can we identify the bad links? Here are the site metrics. 5000+ linking domains, so in this example we need to research the 5000 links, and possibly send notifications to thousands of webmasters to remove the links? Open site states about 25,000 total links, but root links are shown below. Yikes.Domain Authority 75
External Followed Links 112,000
Total External Links 115,000
Total Links 150,000,
Followed Linking Root Domains 3,900
Total Linking Root Domains 5,300
Linking C Blocks 2,700 -
Thanks so much, Ben.
You're right, a new domain is not an option. They're a big company.
At this point, I'm not sure what to charge. This is going to take a lot of time and I'm not sure if I even want to get associated with it now. Seems like the old seo should do it and provide documentation it's done.
Anyone find a service to do this?

So I'm going to guess launching a new domain isn't an option?
You can use Excel to segment the linking root domains (LRDs) by those that are probably directories - those that contain terms like "directory", "URL" and "submit" in the domain. There are a couple of ways to do it but just as an exmaple if you enter the following into Excel it will tell you whether the URL in A2 contains the term "directory".
=isnumber(search("directory",A2))
It pays to scan over these links and see if there are any decent sites that you've bundled in with the bad but mostly I'd imagine they will just be directories.
You can do the same thing with adult terminology to find those types of sites. The method is by no means perfect but it is quick and easy.
Possibly the easiest way to spot low quality links is looking at the C-block. If you've got 50 links from the same C class IP then it's either a bad link network or a blog service. You'll spot the difference pretty quickly although if you have several clients wanting this service then it might be worth excluding the IP ranges of the major blog services in your spread sheet. I don't think you can currently get IP from OSE but I'm sure you'll figure out a way.
That's all that I can think of off the top of my head but I'll add more if I think of them.

New site: More pages for usability, or fewer more detailed pages for greater domain authority flow?
Ladies and gents! We're building a new site. We have a list of 28 professions, and we're wondering whether or not to include them all on one long and detailed page, or to keep them on their own separate pages. Thinking about the flow of domain authority - I could see 28 pages diluting it quite heavily - but at the same time, I think having the separate pages would be better for the user. What do you think?

Will a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for a specific niche being seen as negative by google for too many links?
SEO newbie here, I'm thinking about creating a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for my specific niche. It'd be 300 links or more, but with comments, and categorized nicely. It'd be a useful resource for my target audience to bookmark, and share. Will google see this as a negative? If so, what's the best way to do such a blog post? Thanks

New pages need to be crawled & indexed
Hi there, When you add pages to a site, do you need to re-generate an XML site map and re-submit to Google/Bing? I see the option in Google Webmaster Tools under the "fetch as Google tool" to submit individual pages for indexing, which I am doing right now. Thanks,

New Website, New URL, New Content - What do we do with the old site? Are 301's the only option?
We've just built a new site for a client. They were adamant on changing the url. The new site is entirely new content, however the subject mater is the same. Some pages are even titled very similarly. Is is advisable to keep the old site running, and link it to the new site? Permanently, or temporarily? Do we simply place redirects from the old site the new? Old site was 30 pages, new site is 80 pages. So redirects won't be available to all the new pages. It seems a shame to trash the old site, it is getting some good traffic, and the content - although outdated is unique and of a high quality. Old url is 4+ yrs old, the new url is new. Some enlightened opinions would be greatly welcomed. Thanks

Problems with my Site? (If you have time take a look :P thanks)
Hey! If anyone has a moment I would really appreciate any tips or problems you see about our website. I don't expect much but would appreciate any suggestions and such. We are working on back linking and content generation but I know that may not be much use if the website itself is not built well enough! Thank you to anyone who takes a moment of their time to take a look! Site: http://earthsaverequipment.com I am more interested in SEO issues or suggestions not comments that you dislike my artwork 😛 haha Cheers Charles
