Google Places / Map Results CTR vs Top Organic Result
-
I have a client who is currently ranking close to the top of the Google Places results for a handful of important local keywords.
They have a competitor who is pretty consistantly ranking in number #1 and #2 organic positions, above the Places results.
Does anyone know the average click through rates for results similar to these? Do the #1 and #2 organic positions still outperform the lower placed Google Places (with side map) results when the search intent is very local?
I just wonder if they are possibly in a better position as-is if people are more likely to use the map or places listings on the SERPs page, rather than click through to another site.
Thanks

Haha - I didn't notice that, actually. Here are a couple more links, too, David, that might be good to look at:

So glad the first one was helpful.

...and ironically enough, that post links to another, right back here on SEOmoz blog!

Very awesome, just what I was looking for.
Thank you!

Hi David,
While I don't have explicit CTR data to share with you, I do believe you will like this eyetracking article:
http://connect.icrossing.co.uk/eye-tracking-experiment-google_7109
In one of the screenshots, you can see the greater heat in the local area of the page, vs. the upper organic results.
Does this help with your query?

Thanks for your input, Chenzo.

A heat map on specific Google SERPs would be awesome, if it were possible.
-
Being on number 1 is always better then number 2 but if the 2nd place is of Google place with the map with it I guess it should attract more eye balls but to be sure why not you play a heat map on SERP results to have an idea! #justsaying

David, I have exactly the same issue with a few clients myself and what I have found is, if the client is a business that caters to just one specific area vs a larger span then the click throughs will vary and the customer reviews with close proximity of location tend to do best.

Place pages
Anyone else having problems with google place pages? Create a page and then have it become merged with someone else's place page. Try to correct it to no avail? Try to delete it only to find that it still shows up?

Amazon Store Name Change - Impact on Google Shopping
For a site ranking on page 1 in Google Shopping Results for multiple products, they're thinking of changing their store name to rebrand themselves and their website. They currently have items appearing on page 1 from their stores on ebay, Amazon, buy.com, sears, etc. Does anybody know if changing their brand name on these stores will impact their results on Google Shopping? Thanks, Mark

Does adding the city to your business name in a Places page help or harm Local SEO?
Hi, All! Another local SEO question... For one of our clients, the title on their Place page is <official business="" name=""><city>. Example: John's Sporting Goods Detroit. Now, most citations will say "John's Sporting Goods." Is having "Detroit" as part of the business name in Places problematic (NAP inconsistency) and we should remove it, or is it helpful for ranking for "sporting goods detroit" or is it neither?</city></official> Thanks! Quick ways of finding out of date / inconsistent citations
Hi fellow mozzers! We are currently relaunching our website and are in the process of ensuring all our local citations are up to date and consistent. In doing so, I've noticed that there are still countless listings under our old address, which probably isn't doing our local rankings a whole world of good! I have been hunting these down by searching "company name" "old address" to bring up any references, but I wondered if there was a tool to find these quicker, in the same way Whitespark finds citation sources to begin with? Similarly, is there a tool that flags up listings that have the correct NAP info, but that has maybe been formatted differently enough so as to cause consistency probs? Thanks all!
