Homepage with a lower PR?
-
Can anybody give me an example of 2-4 sites that have lower PR on the homepage and a higher PR on secondary pages (about us, etc)?
And is there a way to search for such sites in Google?
Thanks

I remember several years ago working on a site for my brother, and we did actually have a higher toolbar page rank on a couple of interior pages than we did on the home page. I don't know how you would search for that or why you would want to, however.
I can tell you how I believe it happened to this site. My brother had had a personal site that evolved into a business site. He kept his product information on that personal site, and had an oscommerce store set up on the business domain in a subfolder. For years, the home page was just a placeholder, or even a redirect to the subfolder (I can't remember which).
We took the business portions of the personal site and redirected them to the appropriate pages and subfolders on the business site. For a while, those pages and subfolders had a higher toolbar PR than the homepage itself did. People linked directly to those product and category pages, and there was the redirect from the personal site, yet the home page had little attention.

Yes, each page has it's own PR.

Thanks for the answer, but as far as I know every single page has its own PR. Isn't that right?

Even if we use PA instead of PR, I am confident there is not any site which matches the pattern you described. It could be done on a test site by intentionally manipulating the links, but it would take a lot of effort. The example you shared is not realistically going to exist.
There may be sites with various internal pages which PR higher then the home page, but there are not a significant amount of links earned by support pages such as "Contact Us" or "About Us" on most websites. There can be rare exceptions but not one where all the conditions you described exist.

Thanks a lot for your exhasting reply, but could you give me an example of say 3 sites with the following situation (or similoar). A site has a menu with the following buttons (links) to respective pages:
Home - PR3
About us - PR4
Services - PR5
Contact us - PR4
So, the home page is the weakest in terms of PR values.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Vince.
What exactly do you mean by "PR"? Google internally uses PageRank as one of over 200 metrics when evaluating a page's placement in results. Google does not make that information available except for 3-4 times per year. PR has almost no value in daily SEO, even Google clearly and repeatedly has stated such. You may wish to read Susan Moskwa's discussion of this topic along with her advice to not use PR as a metric for evaluating websites: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/06/beyond-pagerank-graduating-to.html
One possible scenario where a website could have an internal page rank higher then the home page would be if the site performed an important interview. For example if a local website conducted an interview with the Vice-President, then the internal page which offered that article could receive coverage and links from hundreds of important sources around the country. The PR value of that page can then exceed the home page.
For an actual example, the best I can offer is using SEOmoz Page Authority (PA). A company called Screaming Frog offers SEO services but they are most famous for creating a web crawler. Their home page (http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/) has a PA of 57. The screaming frog crawler page (http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/) has a PA of 62.
I hope this helps.

Homepage with and without language subfolder
Hi all, We are checking to optimize a website that has four language versions in subfolders. When setting the self referencing canonicals and the hreflang tags, we came across a particular problem. Both the URL's example.com and example.com/nl are being indexed and have the same content in the same language. For the other language versions, it is quite straightforward, but what to do with these two URL's? Currently, there is a canonical tag from example.com to example.com/nl. Is a simple 301 redirect to the URL with the language subfolder the best solution? Something to consider: if a backlink points to example.com (without specifying the language subfolder), all the link juice will go to the /nl version and not to other versions (with a canonical as well as with a 301 of course). Thanks!

"No Information Available" Error for Homepage in Google
Hi Everyone, Been racking my brain around this one. Not sure why it is happening. Basically Google is showing the "www" version of the homepage, when 99% of the site is "non-www". It also says "No Information Available". I have tried submitting it through GSC, but it is telling me it is blocked through the Robots.txt file. I don't see anything in there that would block it. Any ideas? shorturl.at/bkpyG I would like to get it to change to the regular "non-www" and actually be able to show information.

My homepage ranks but not my target page.
Hello, I have an issue with one my pages. I have a page about "Bike tours in France+ exclusively that has been existing for almost 8 years. Since day 1 I changed the web address a few times but I have the necessary redirect (actually only 1). I can't find this page (pretty much since day 1) on the keyword "Bike tours France" and I am wondering why ? However, I can find my homepage rank on "Bike tours France" even though it doesn't only talk about "Bike tours in France" instead of my page which is only about "Bike tours in France". I am wondering why only my homepage shows and not the other one. For information, I have about 30 % of my external links that say Bike tours France and that go to my homepage because when I started my website I was only doing "Bike tours in France" Could google say we don't care about your page about "Bike tours in France" because you got so many links to your page with the keywords "Bike tours France" and could it be why I don't see it rank. However, it is index but doesn't show up in search results ? Or could it be the fact that made many content changes over the years on this page and that google is saying I will rank you but it will take years because of so many changes. What can I do to make my page about "Bike tours in France" appear in search results for the keyword "Bike tours in France". Thank you,

Do I need to use a trailing slash to homepage in canonical and hreflang?
Currently I have a 301 redirect from
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
https://www.mysite.com/
to
https://www.mysite.com And in my canonical and hreflang and also insite links I use consistently https://www.mysite.com without trailing slash. Is this OK? Or do I need to add a trailing slash?0 -
Homepage not ranking for main keyword, all other pages ranking slightly for their own keyword phrases.
Dear Mozzers, We have an ecommerce website (www.pashmina-boutique.com), we want to rank the homepage for the keyword "pashmina". Problem is, we are nowhere to be found, not even in the top 100 search results of Google. It is indexed, we have no crawl errors, except that we had some problems with our hosting (503's), the crawler of Google bumped in a few of those. And we are fixing it. Our other pages, e.g. (http://www.pashmina-boutique.com/15-white-pashminas) ranks for "white pashminas" 24th and "white cashmere pashminas" 23rd. We have done no linkbuilding, in Majestic, you can check that. We have been offline for a long time (over 6 months) and about 3 weeks ago, we did a redesign (SEO). We relaunched, everything is looking fine except the homepage isn't ranking for the main keyword. Could you guys check it out? Is it over-optimization? It can't be Penguin, Panda would be a surprise too. Or do we still have to wait for the monthly Panda data-refresh? We are currently busy with this issue, once this is solved - that the homepage is ranking - we will start linkbuilding. Mr.1000

Strange internal links and trying to improve PR ? - Please advise
Hi All, I've been looking at the internal links on my eCommerce site to try and improve PR and get it as efficient as possible so link juice isnt getting wasted etc and I've come across some odd ones I would like some advice on My website currently has between 125-146 links on every page (Sitemap approx 3500 pages). From what I read ,the ideal number of links is under 100 but can someone confirm is this is still the case ?..Is it a case of less is more , in terms of improving a page PR etc ? in terms of link juice strength etc so it's not getting diluted to unnecessary pages. One of my links is a bad url ( my domain + phone number for reason) which currently goes to a 404 page ?. - Is this okay or do we need to track down the link and remove it. I don't want link juice getting wasted as it's on every page. Another one of my links is my domain.name/# and another one with some characters after the # which both to the home page. Example www.domain.co.uk/# and www.domain.co.uk#abcde both go to homepage. Is this okay or am I potentially getting duplicate content as If I put these urls in , they go to my home page. I have a link on every page which opens up outlook (email) on the contact us. Should this really be changed to a button with a contact us form opening up instead ? I currently have 9 links on the bottom on every page i.e About it , delivery , hire terms,.contact us , trade accounts , privacy, sitemap. When I check , these pages seem to be my strongest pages in terms of PR. Is that because they are on every page?.. Should I look to reduce these links as they are accessible from the navigation menu apart from privacy and sitemap. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated ? thanks Pete

How do you remove Authorship photos from your homepage?
Suppose you have a website with a blog on it, and you show a few recent blog posts on the homepage. Google see the headline + by Author Name and associates that user's Google+ profile. This is great for the actual blog posts, but how do you prevent this from happening on the homepage or other blog roll page?

Are Links from Homepage safe?
I have the option of getting a link from 2 websites home pages. My site is a financial service website. I want to know if it is safe to do so. The first site is a hotel site, so their content has no relation to my site And the second is a Google News website about finances They have offered me a section in the sidebar to have a sentence or 2 about my site with a link. Can you tell me would these be safe to get? I don't want to be hit by any penalty
