Best source to keep abreast of Google Alogorith Changes
-
Good morning from 13 degress C about to chuck it down wetherby UK...
I want to make sure i keep my finger on the pulse regarding Google Algorithmic changes.
What is the best source to make sure your kept up to date with Googles ongoing tweeks to its Algorithm (apart from SEO moz).
Thanks,
David

Search Engine Land & SEO Roundtable are probably the 2 best news sources when it comes to keeping abreast of the latest algo updates:

Appeciate the straight talking EGOL

Hey David,
SEOmoz themselves do a nice job of documenting the major algorithm changes and linking to supporting documentation from sights like SearchEngineLand/Journal, etc.
It's also nice historically if you want to go back and look at past changes
Google Algorithm Change History:
-
Forums that are visited by lots of noobs, people who use SEO as a ranking tool instead of content, and "SEOs" who have shallow understanding of ranking factors usually get really busy right after an algo change.
They explode with lots of reactionary post titles like... "Wah! My rankings disappeared!"........ "Google hates me!".... etc. These begin within an hour of the the algo's roll-out, peak over the next 48 hours and drag on for a few weeks. Many of these visitors are first-time posters in the forum and arrive in a panic because they don't understand what happened to their site.
If you watch these forums and follow a few of the threads where intelligent people describe their problem and knowledgeable people respond, you can frequently get a sense of what and who is getting whacked. If you know the difference between "intelligent" and "knowledgeable" (very different human qualities) you can get the most out of this reading.
The SEOmoz Q&A has a bit of this but not as much as forums such as SEOChat, DigitalPoint and the Google Support forums.
-
Set up iGoogle/Google Reader with a bunch of news feeds, Twitter feeds, etc. probably the best way to stay in touch with the SEO world.
-
I would definitely suggest regular reading of Google Webmaster blog http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/ where they write about current and upcoming changes. Also, read Matt Cutts http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/type/googleseo/

My traffic keeps going down...
My website been through many changes the last 5 months. From migrating http to https, server transfer and more. Everything was double checked all the redirects are perfect (301) to the https pages (we have like 28K backlinks so everything needs to be correct), in a matter of fact the migration to ssl made in October and in November the stats went high. The problem is that at the end of November after the server migration the traffic went down and is stably down till today. We re-checked the redirects in every aspect and more in depth and finished fixing issues around end of January. Also before 1 week we stopped the functionality of a parameter (product sort) and removed it from the website entirelly and canonicaled the urls that were using it so if google tries to test those urls with the parameter to see a canonical tag and eventually drop them out of index and stop crawling them. Generally we tried to fix the crawling efficiency and speed. The technical SEO was on fire the last weeks. Still i cant see improvement in rankings, i only see drops. What is the problem here? Where should i look? Any ideas? In webmaster tools we have no 404's and no manual actions. The visibility in Sistrix goes down (check attachment), the ahrefs organic traffic goes down, semrush stats go down... My website is: https://www.pccdkeys.com ecfp87

PA 44 || mR 4.6 || mT 5.73 || 986 links from 43 Root Domains
DA 33 || 3,942 links from 71 Domains We've dropped from position 25ish to position 70ish in keyword searches for 'electric bikes'. I've tried everything and I just don't understand! It's genuine content, the actual product is increasingly popular, we have several links from sites which are (well, to my mind) reasonable quality. I've only just been brought in to look at this and my lack of any SEO or web experience is not putting my boss off expecting an instant solution 😞 As I'm only just getting to grips with it, Analytics was only installed about a month ago so I can't pin point a moment when it dropped. We're consistently out-positioned by sites with lower PA/DA scores. Any insight anyone might have would be amazing! Thanks

UK website ranking higher in Google.com than Google.co.uk
Hi, I have a UK website which was formerly ranked 1st in Google.co.uk and .com for my keyword phrase and has recently slipped to 6th in .co.uk but is higher in position 4 in Google.com. I have conducted a little research and can’t say for certain but I wonder if it is possible that too many of my backlinks are US based and therefore Google thinks my website is also US based. Checked Google WmT and we the geo-targeted to the UK. Our server is also UK based. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks

How to disallow google and roger?
Hey Guys and girls, i have a question, i want to disallow all robots from accessing a certain root link: Get rid of bots User-agent: * Disallow: /index.php?_a=login&redir=/index.php?_a=tellafriend%26productId=* Will this make the bots not to access any web link that has the prefix you see before the asterisk? And at least google and roger will get away by reading "user-agent: *"? I know this isn't the standard proceedure but if it works for google and seomoz bot we are good.
