How does Google find /feed/ at the end of all pages on my site?
-
Hi!
In Google Webmaster Tools I find *.../feed/ as a 404 page in crawl errors. The problem is that none of these pages exist and they have no inbound links (except the start page).
FYI, it´s a wordpress site.
Example:
Does Google search for /feed/ by default or why do I keep getting these 404´s every day?

Hi Tommy
You can do as Aran suggests - a redirect would be fine for feeds you don't want being crawled.
But more importantly, you may want to consider not indexing subpages (like this one: http://www.mediaanalys.se/blogg/page/2/) - you can make this setting in Yoast.

Thanks for your support

I'm all out of ideas then!
set up the 301 and see what happens
Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I´ve checked the sitemap, you find it at ....se/sitemap_index.xml
It´s Yoast plugin BTW.
-
I see your point... cant find reference to /feed/ however i also cannot find your sitemap.xml to confirm their are no references in there are their an external links pointing to kontakt/feed?
I'd consider adding a 301 rule into the htaccess to redirect traffic from the offending 404 pages, just in case.
-
Sure, notice that it´s in swedish
Example of one page that Google report 404 on is our contact page with /feed/ at the end,
-
could you share the url?
-
Hi Aran, thanks for your time!
Meta and sitemaps are clear. I also checked the source code for the specific pages that Google have in their reports, but no link.
I´ve also googled about the automatic feed functions in WP but no problem there either.

By default I think most wordpress blogs have a feed accessible via the urls you describe (http://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/)
I'm pretty sure there specified somewhere link in sitemaps or even in meta.
Have you disabled your feeds?
Seeing your URL would help.

Home Pages of Several Websites are disappearing / reappearing in Google Index
Hi, I periodically use the Google site command to confirm that our client's websites are fully indexed. Over the past few months I have noticed a very strange phenomenon which is happening for a small subset of our client's websites... basically the home page keeps disappearing and reappearing in the Google index every few days. This is isolated to a few of our client's websites and I have also noticed that it is happening for some of our client's competitor's websites (over which we have absolutely no control). In the past I have been led to believe that the absence of the home page in the index could imply a penalty of some sort. This does not seem to be the case since these sites continue to rank the same in various Google searches regardless of whether or not the home page is listed in the index. Below are some examples of sites of our clients where the home page is currently not indexed - although they may be indexed by the time you read this and try it yourself. Note that most of our clients are in Canada. My questions are: 1. has anyone else experienced/noticed this? 2. any thoughts on whether this could imply some sort of penalty? or could it just be a bug in Google? 3. does Google offer a way to report stuff like this? Note that we have been building websites for over 10 years so we have long been aware of issues like www vs. non-www, canonicalization, and meta content="noindex" (been there done that in 2005). I could be wrong but I do not believe that the site would keep disappearing and reappearing if something like this was the issue. Please feel free to scrutinize the home pages to see if I have overlooked something obvious - I AM getting old. site:dietrichlaw.ca - this site has continually ranked in the top 3 for [kitchener personal injury lawyers] for many years. site:burntucker.com - since we took over this site last year it has moved up to page 1 for [ottawa personal injury lawyers] site:bolandhowe.com - #1 for [aurora personal injury lawyers] site:imranlaw.ca - continually ranked in the top 3 for [mississauga immigration lawyers]. site:canadaenergy.ca - ranks #3 for [ontario hydro plans] Thanks in advance! How could you make a URL/Breadcrumb structure appear different in Google than when you click into site?
I'm seeing a competitor be able to make their URL/Breadcrumb stucture appear different in Google than on the site. Google shows a 3-4 category silo for the page but once clicked the page is off root. How could you do this?

Web Page Dropped Out of Google?
One of our web pages seems to have completely dropped out of Google after featuring on page 1 for a number of years. It can't be a site wide issue as all other web pages are performing as normal. The page is http://www.contractormoney.com/income-protection/ and the key phrase it was performing well for was 'contractor income protection'. Any ideas??

Why is my site jumping around in google search ?
Hi I've been trying to get my page up in google results and I was wondering why the constant fluctuation. For example, on one day the pages is nr. 26, the next day it's nr. 65 then jumps back on say 30 and then in a few more days it's going back to 50. What's the logic behind that ? Thanks Cezar

How does Google Crawl Multi-Regional Sites?
I've been reading up on this on Webmaster Tools but just wanted to see if anyone could explain it a bit better. I have a website which is going live soon which is going to be set up to redirect to a localised URL based on the IP address i.e. NZ IP ranges will go to .co.nz, Aus IP addresses would go to .com.au and then USA or other non-specified IP addresses will go to the .com address. There is a single CMS installation for the website. Does this impact the way in which Google is able to search the site? Will all domains be crawled or just one? Any help would be great - thanks!
