How to Target Multiple Keywords in Single Page
-
Hey There,
We're planning to target multiple keywords in a single page.. they keywords are definitely related and to an extent could be considered as synonyms..
We have a few questions as to how to optimize the page for on page and off page.
On Page
-
Do we mention all the targeted keywords on the page? At a maximum we could mention the keywords once..of course want to give out relevant and quality content and do not want to focus on keyword density
-
How do we optimize the URL structure? For ex... We have keywords aa, ab and ac, where a is the base keyword
Is it a good option to to have a URL structure like http://www.example.com/a-b-c.html?
-
How do we go about mentioning the targeted keywords in meta description.. We've read the articles at SEOMoz.. but would want opinions
-
What about HI, H2 and H3 Tags? how do we go about optimizing these
Off Page
While using off page we will of course vary our anchor text with the multiple keywords... this will make it look natural.
- Will we manage to rank for the multiple keywords (if we vary anchor text) that we're targeting if our backlinking method are strong?
Thank you all for your inputs and responses...

Not saying these are best... just how I do it....
1) How do we optimize the URL structure? For ex... We have keywords aa, ab and ac, where a is the base keyword
I use most searched keyword.
2) How do we go about mentioning the multiple targeted keywords in meta description.. We've read the articles at SEOMoz.. but would want opinions
I do something like this.... formal name: blah blah slang name
Brass Widgets: Also know as gold widgets are kickass....
- What about H1, H2 and H3 Tags? how do we go about optimizing these for the multiple keywords
I optimize H1 for formal name and use slang (highest search volume) in H2
4) Is it a good idea to put up these multiple keywords on the sidebar of our website... we're basically referring to breadcrumbs all over over website for the targeted keywords...
I just include them in the text of the page.

Thanks EGOL... that was really very helpful and made a lot of sense...We did search for certain keywords and the synonyms did show up.. thanks a ton..
However, looking from an SEO point of view, few questions still remain unanswered and we're looking for views and opinions from the experienced that will clarify our doubts on the below:

Me I am getting several keywords ranked on positions 4 until 1 and much more in p[ositions like 5-8 .I just get a C grade with the on page tool and after I build off page links with the anchors and site si ranking. Keywords are on 35-50% difficulty.I hope that helps. But EGOL is also correct. Depends on the keywords.I hope that helps

I sell a product that has a formal name, a slang name that is used by most customers, an archaic name that is used by old-timers (like me) and an ignorant name that people who are unfamiliar with the product often use.
The slang name has most of the search volume, followed by the archaic name. Our best customers are professionals who use the formal name.
I have made a point to use each of these names somewhere on every page of the site. However, I optimize for the formal name and the slang name. My site ranks well for all four of these terms. However, I give Google the credit for these rankings instead of saying that it is my expert optimization.
If I go to Google.com and search for the formal name, google bolds the slang name, the archaic name and the igonrant name in the SERPs.
You can test this for yourself... go to google.com and search for 'celebrity pics". You will see that "photos", "pictures" "pics" "celebs" "celebrity" and other terms are bolded in the SERPs.
If this is happening for your keyword variants then your optimization work is going to be easier.

How can I optimise my key pages for new (related) key phrases as they arise, without compromising the original optimised keywords?
I have an important product page that I've fully optimised for a couple of specific key phrases. There are some other really good (related/similar) key phrases it's starting to rank on the first page for which I'd like to increase ranking on further. How can I optimise/improve ranking for these without compromising ranking for other keywords?

Validated pages on GSC displays 5x more pages than when performing site:domain.com?
Hi mozzers, When checking the coverage report on GSC I am seeing over 649,000 valid pages https://cl.ly/ae46ec25f494 but when performing site:domain.com I am only seeing 130,000 pages. Which one is more the source of truth especially I have checked some of these "valid" pages and noticed they're not even indexed?

Single topic website or as part of a multiple topic website?
I have content sitting on a site here - https://www.pfizerpro.co.uk/product/xeljanz/rheumatoid-arthritis - domain authority 25 page authority 18 - the pages went live three months ago and the website was launched 18 months. We now have the option to use a brand new domain www.xeljanz.co.uk Which is the better option to stick with the www.pfizerpro.co.uk as it is a larger multiple topic site that should attract more links or to start a new single topic site which google may view as the better source as it is dedicated to the topic? Thanks

H1 tag found on page, but saying doesn't match keyword
We've run a on-page grader test on our home page www.whichledlight.com with the keyword 'led bulbs' it comes back with saying there is a H1 tag, although the content of the keyword apperently doesn't contain 'led bulbs... which seems a bit odd because the content of the tag is 'UK’s #1 Price Comparison Site for LED Bulbs` I've used other SEO checkers and some say we don't even have a H1 tag, or H2, H3 and so on for any page. Screaming Frog seems to think we have a H1 tag though, and can also detect the content of the tag. Any ideas? ** Update ** The website is a single page app (EmberJS) so we use prerender to create snapshots of the pages.

We were under the impression that MOZ can crawl these prerendered pages fine, so were a bit baffled as to why it would say we have a H1 tag, but think the contents of the tag still doesn't match our keyword.0 -
Does opening a page with target=_blank cause bounce?
Hi, When I open an internal page with target=_blank (for example taking people from our store to our blog) it may cause a session timeout on the store page (assuming they stay on the blog and don't come back). Does that cause a bounce? Does that mean that the store's page just became the "Exit" page? Thanks

Duplicate page content and Duplicate page title errors
Hi, I'm new to SeoMoz and to this forum. I've started a new campaign on my site and got back loads of error. Most of them are Duplicate page content and Duplicate page title errors. I know I have some duplicate titles but I don't have any duplicate content. I'm not a web developer and not so expert but I have the impression that the crawler is following all my internal links (Infact I have also plenty of warnings saying "Too many on-page links". Do you think this is the cause of my errors? Should I implement the nofollow on all internal links? I'm working with Joomla. Thanks a lot for your help Marco

Are links to on-page content crawled / have any effect on page rank?
Lets say I have a really long article that begins with links to <a name="something">anchors on the same page.</a> <a name="something"></a> <a name="something">E.g.,</a> Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc, allowing the user to scroll down to different content. There are also other links on this page that link to other pages. A few questions: Googlebot arrives on the page. Does it crawl links that point to anchors on the same page? When link juice is divided among all the links on the page, do these links count and page rank is then lost? Thanks!
