Should i continue linking the old page after a redirect 301?
-
hi everybody,
i'm trying to understand why my page http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it isn't ranked for the keyword poltrona frau brescia even if is indexed on google.
the page gets authority and traffic from the page www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html that is already ranked in fourth position for that keyword.
should i continue linking the previous or the new page to increase the page authority?
i don't know if is a good way to link a page not ranked despite a ranked one..
Please help me.... thanks a lot
-
yeah, i agree with you but my question is different ( probably because my english is no good enough ), the page on the previous domain with thin content was ranked fourth, the same on the new third domain in no ranked, not even in 150 position... that's my problem....
hoping that i've explained the problem better i would thank you
guido

I think that the appearance of thin content / over optimization may be affecting your ranking for the term.
If you make some small changes on the things I mentioned you may find that the rankings improve.

thanks sha....
i will certainly follow your valuable advice.... however i don't understand why http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it , that is the same page already indexed, isn't shown for the query poltrona frau brescia...
Do you think that it was wrong to put the page on this new third level domain considering that my only aim is to rank first for that keyword?
Guido

the pages are the same, i just want to transfer www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html on a new third level domain http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it... The problem is that the first one is still ranked ( with a 301 redirect on-it ) but the new one it isn't indexed for that keyword... do you know why?

Hi Guido,
I would agree with comments from eyepaq and Saijo with regard to redirects. Since there is a slight loss of link value with a 301 redirect, it is best to always send links to the target URL.
As to why the page is not ranking, I just wanted to add a reminder that there is more to that than just pointing links to the page. From that point of view there are a few things to consider with this page:
- There is very little content on the page, but when I view source I see a significant number of exact match instances of your keyword term.
- Most notably, there are several alt tags which offer no descriptive value for the user and are simply repetitive use of the exact match term for each photo. This is likely to be seen as manipulative. There is nothing wrong with including your term in alt tags, but they should always serve as short explanation of the image content.
We need to be even more careful of search engine sensitivity to signs of over optimization when there is very little text on a page.
Hope that helps,
Sha

I am answering this assuming you own zenucchi.it
http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it and www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html are on the same domain why try to target 2 different pages for the same keyword ?
UPDATE : ( missed the 301 redirect part in the title ..doh )
Once you do a redirect , its best you build link to the new page.
-
If you just 301 redirected www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html it will take some time for the rankings to settle.
You should focus on getting quality links to the new page.
You can link to the old page as link equity (juice) is pass via 301 but some is lost so it dosen't make sense if you can use the new page as target page for your links.
However, all past links that pointed to www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.html will pass most of the value to the new page - again give google some time to settle and figure everything out.
Hope it helps.

Google webcache of product page redirects back to product page
Hi all– I've legitimately never seen this before, in any circumstance. I just went to check the google webcache of a product page on our site (was just grabbing the last indexation date) and was immediately redirected away from google's cached version BACK to the site's standard product page. I ran a status check on the product page itself and it was 200, then ran a status check on the webcache version and sure enough, it registered as redirected. It looks like this is happening for ALL indexed product pages across the site (several thousand), and though organic traffic has not been affected it is starting to worry me a little bit. Has anyone ever encountered this situation before? Why would a google webcache possibly have any reason to redirect? Is there anything to be done on our side? Thanks as always for the help and opinions, y'all!

301 Redirect from Authoritative but Loosely-Related Domain
We acquired a health-related blog about a year ago with good domain authority and a pretty strong link profile (TF ~40). We have been publishing good relevant content in it but it's not really paying dividends and we are considering doing a 301 to our money site, which is focused primarily on senior issues but has a lot of health-related content. The question is - with the two domains only being loosely related in subject matter, do we stand to harm our main site by redirecting from the other domain?

How would you build links to this page?
Hi i have ecommerce store and currently we are looking to build links to category pages like: http://www.theiconic.com.au/womens-clothing-dresses-party-dresses/ What are some natural ways to build links to a page like this? Our SEO agency has done guest posting and forums but these are not natural link building methods and against Google policy. Any suggestions on how to build natural links to these pages? Cheers.

Too many 301 Redirects caused lower rankings :(
1. Ok so I code my eCommerce site myself first 2. Then switched to Shopify and re-direct all my URLs (terrible mistake) 3. Then Shopify didn't do in terms of seo, so I switched to BigCommerce and re-direct all my URLs (Yes I know but at least this platform is much better) I started getting 404 errors as you can imagine in webmaster tools after switching from Shopify and there were 504 of them. Why its too many because I realized that Shopfiy just creates so many urls for the same pages. One by one I re-direct them to their new destinations. As you can imagine my rankings dropped. As my site speed is now 5.5s at gmetrix. mobile 47 - desktop 80 on Google Site speed tool. Looking at the links now, some of the 404's does not make sense to redirect. How should I approach this? Should I remove some of them if they were not used on web anywhere, no sites linking to that page and let them die in time? OR Should I keep them all? I am giving some examples below, there are so many for each. Thank you all! /account/login/ /blog/?page=7 blog/tagged/recipe /blogs/news /blogs/news?page=6 /collections/all/category-name /collections/frontpage/category-name /collections/frontpage/products/product-name /collections/shop/category-name /collections/shop/products/product-name /product-name/ /pages/terms-privacy /pages/frontpage /products/product-name /shop/products/product-name

Found a cache of old domain names, should I link or 301 redirect
We have found a cache of about 10 URLs, some are ranking above our main URL in Google SERPS. What is the best course of action here? a. Redirect all to the homepage?
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | moconn
b. Link all domains to the homepage?
c. Link all domains to select pages on on main site, being careful not to anchor text spam
d. 301 redirect all to the main site. Is there any disadvantage to your recommendation? Is there likely to be a penalty incurred? I feel like we'll get the strongest increase in rankings by following option c but it feels like option d may be safer. Thanks in advance for your help!0 -
Can I undo 301 redirects to purchase site
A website I am thinking of buying has 301 redirected all pages on his site to one page that explains the site is closing down. If I tell him to change the 301 to 302s will I be able to recover the old pages on the site and keep the authority, rankings and link power of the old pages and not the "Closing page"? Is all i have to do is undo the 301 redirects and everything will go back to how the site was before the 301s were in place? Or will I lose all the link power on individual pages because they already transferred to the "Closing page"? Thanks!

Bulk redirect or only a few pages at a time
Dear all, I would very much like to have your advise about whether or not to implement bulk 301 redirects. We have 3 retail websites with the same technical architecture, namely: Netherlands-example.nl Belgium-example.be France-example.fr These three websites are all bilingual, namely: Netherlands-example.nl/nl Netherlands-example.nl/fr Belgium-example.be/nl Belgium-example.be/fr France-example.fr/nl France-example.fr/fr We’re going to do a CMS update and therefore we have to change a bulk of 301 redirects: Part 1: For France (France-example.fr) URL’s in the Dutch language (France-example.fr/nl) will be redirected to Belgium (Belgium-example.be/nl). It’s a matter of about 8.000 redirects. Part 2: For the Netherlands (Netherlands-example.nl) URL’s in the French language (Netherlands-example.nl/fr ) will be redirected to Belgium (Belgium-example.be/fr). It’s also a matter of about 8.000 redirects. Question:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | footsteps
What will be the best way to implement these redirects? Fully implement part 1 first (8.000 redirects) and then a couple of weeks/months later a full implement of part 2? Or will it be better to implement small batches like 200-500 per 2 weeks? I’d like to hear your opinion. Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Gerwin0 -
How to build links to landing pages?
I have been using link baits like infographics to get quality links to my site and I have observed that these tactics are great to get links to the home page or that particular post page where infographic was originally posted. But we have various other important landing pages and we want to transfer some link equity to those pages. Whenever we publish an infographic we post it on out blog with an embed code carrying anchor text pointed to our site’s home page. People who share our infographic, normally links to the home page or to the post page where they find that particular item. So, what are the possible ways to get links to any other landing page? Can we post some bait on other landing pages as well. I need to know some more techniques to attract deep links. Thanks
