Multi domain redirect to single domain
-
Hello, all SEOers.
Today, I would like to get some ideas about handling multiple domains.
I have a client who bought numerous domains under purpose of prevent abuse of their brand name and at the same time for future uses.
This client bought more than 100 domains.
Some domains are paused, parked, lived and redirected to other site.
I don't worry too much of parked domains and paused domains.
However, what I am worrying is that there are about 40 different domains are now redirected to single domain and meta refresh was used for redirections.
As far as I know, this can raise red flag for Google.
I asked clients to clean up unnecessary domains, yet they want to keep them all.
So now I have to figure out how to handle all domains which are redirect to single domain.
So far, I came up with following ideas.
1. Build gateway page which shows lists of my client sites and redirect all domains to gateway page.
2. Implement robots.txt file to all different domains
3. Delete the redirects and leave it as parked domains.
Could anyone can share other ideas in order to handling current status?
Please people, share your ideas for me.

There's a few ways to look at this.. but it entirely depends on the domains. If they are all brand domains, then you secure your brand names and redirect all traffic to the main domain. If you're aiming at SEO value, then you gain the authority (if there is any) of all the domains that you redirect to the primary.
Why wouldn't you want to redirect 100 domains? Honestly I don't think Google would look at that like a red flag, but again it entirely depends on the domains. If you redirect domains with bad reputation, or former penalties, then you'll automatically inherit the bad reputation. So that can work either way - depends on the domains.

I know where you are coming from David but to be honest i don't think Google will look too depth in to it and on the other hand you cannot stop (even your competitors) to build links on your redirected domains... so its better to play safe! (My opinion!)

If the whole domain redirect strategy is around brand protection each these domains have no links anyway so no SEO benefit. If you link a whole bunch of misspelt versions they will understand what you are doing and see that's not done for traffic purposes.

I would redirect all the domains to the primary domain and make sure they are done via a 301 redirect.
Here, if from Primary domain you mean to say the main domain then i might disagree you here because if you are going to redirect tons of website to the main website... this is a clear indication to Google that i am taking all the domains and pointing it to one place so that i can eat as much traffic as possible which is not really a good strategy in Google's eye!

That's true! also do not act like a network.. Google hates it!

Hello,
I would redirect all the domains to the primary domain and make sure they are done via a 301 redirect and then focus your efforts on your main website, if you build out a whole lot of thin content sites they will likely never rank and will be eventually turfed out of the index as they have no authority.
If you focus on the main domain, you can worry about their future use later and just remove the individual redirect on any of these 100 domains when you are ready.

yep that's the idea make something from it , but a very important factor is that the link to the main domain you put only after they gain a good DA and on different c class and here you have good 40 links that will never go away , don't we all looking for those all the time

Ok this is interesting… I had a client who has several domains like around 12 redirecting to the main website (different URLs) and I didn’t see any problem with that…
40 seems a BIG number to me and it can show a red flag to Google… keeping the Mikes idea in mind why not divide the domains…
Out of 40 domains let’s say use 5 for industry related blog and update them one a month with some quick link building on it.
Other 3 as QnA websites… mostly it will be a UGC data so it won’t increase too much of your work…
Redirect 5 websites on different URLs of the main website….
Use the next 2 domains on a review website… again a UGC so not much work in a long term…
(use c class IPs)
… and the same way divide the domain pointing from one website to different others and optimize them to get traffic from them as well…. Why I think it will be interesting is because it will take you to the safe place and at the same time you will be opening several different channels to attract qualified and targeted traffic to the website…

well it depend what you want to benefit from this domains and what is your client field , i would do the follow:
get 40 blogs or landing pages on this domain , promote and do some seo on those to get a good DA , then put those 40 on different c class servers and link them to your main domain

Redirect Juice?
Hello all! I have a partner site that is linking their product page (step 1) to our product page (step 2) and then we instantly forward them to our shopping cart page (step 3) with that product added. Will my product page (step 2) get the SEO juice from our partners link (step 1) even though we instantly forward to our shopping cart page (step 3)? Curious about ways to technically do this correctly. Thank you!

Handling Multiple Domain 301 Redirects on Single htaccess file
Hello, I have a client that currently that has 9 different markets with different sub-domains on one server (aka one htaccess file.). All the sites have very similar Navigation and some of them contain the same products aka same URLs. The site is using Magento CMS and I'm trying to figure out how to redirect some products that have been removed from one of the stores. The problem I'm running into is when I try to redirect one store url, it redirects all the site's URLs. Example http://store.domain1.com/ http://store.domain2.com/ I'd like to redirect http://store.domain1.com/old-url.html to http://store.domain1.com/new-url.html without making http://store.domain2.com/old-url.html redirect. I've literally been pulling out my hair trying to figure this one out but have had no luck. Does anybody have any ideas on how I could do this without having the sites redirect or create any loops? Any wisdom from you apache experts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Erik

What happens to a domain in SERPs when it's set to redirect to another?
We have just acquired a competing website and are wondering whether to leave it running as is for now, or set the domain to redirect to our own site. If we set up this redirect, what would happen to the old site in Google SERPs? Would the site drop off from results? If so, would we capture this new search traffic or is it a free for all and all sites compete for the search traffic as normal? Thanks in advance. Paul

Domain name with a single digit
I have an existing campervan hire website which is being redesigned, rebranded and renamed (including the domain). The website allows businesses and owners to list campervans for rent to customers. There are a huge amount of campervan hire companies and so not many relevant domain names. Also many are for sale as expensive premium domains. We want something different that will standout. We're thinking of https//:camper7.com as its short and we think it would work. Is it best to avoid using a single digit in a domain if it isnt a 2 or 4 or does it not matter if we think it could work as it would stand out? Any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks James

How do you raise domain authority?
Hey guys, hoping you can help me out here. I've been tasked with raising several sites' domain authority to a level of 30. Right now, many of them are hovering around 20. Three weeks into this project and our numbers have dropped 1-2 points on average but I don't think our efforts would reflect that this quickly. From what I've read online, a good strategy is guest posting on relevant sites and collecting links from sites with higher DAs. I've also read at least one Moz article about this potentially being ineffective. I've read some of the related posts but they seem mostly dated and the answers didn't seem to help me. Hoping someone with some experience with this can help me out, I appreciate it.

Redirecting index.html to the root
Hi, I was wondering if there is a safe way to consolidate link juice on a single version of a home page. I find incoming links to my site that link to both mysite.com/ and mysite.com/index.html. I've decided to go with mysite.com/ as my main and only URL for the site and now I'd like to transfer all link juice from mysite.com/index.html to mysite.com/

When i tried 301 redirect from index.html to the root it created an indefinite loop, of course. I know I can use a RewriteRule.., but will it transfer the juice?? Please help!5 -
What is best practice SEO approach to re structuring a website with multiple domains and associated search engine rankings for each domain?
Hello Mozzers, I'm trying to improve and establish rankings for my website which has never really been optimised. I've inherited what seems to be a mess and have a challenge for you! The website currently has 3 different www domains all pointing to the one website, two are .com domains and one is a .com.au - the business is located in Australia and the website is primarily targeting Australian traffic. In addition to this there are a number of other non www domains for the same addresses pointing to the website in the CMS which is Adobe Business Catalyst. When I check Google each of the www domains for the website has the following number of pages indexed: www.Domain1,com 5,190 pages
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | JimmyFlorida
www.Domain2.com 1,520 pages
www,Domain3.com.au 149 pages What is best practice approach from an SEO perspective to re organising this current domain structure? 1. Do I need to use the .com.au as the primary domain given that we are in this market and targeting traffic here? Thats what I have been advised and it seems to be backed up by what I have read here. 2. Do we re direct all domains to the primary .com.au domain? This is easily done in the Adobe Business Catalyst CMS however is this the same as a 301 redirect which is the best approach from an SEO perspective? 3. How do we consolidate all of the current separate domain rankings for the 3 different domains into the one domain rankings within Google to ensure improved rankings and a best practice approach? The website is currently receiving very little organic search traffic so if its simpler and faster to start again fresh rather than go through a complicated migration or re structure and you have a suggestion here please feel free to let me know your ideas! Thank you!0 -
Seeking Help with Domain Acquisition Redirect Strategy
My company is purchasing www.boughtsite.com. This new site has multiple sub-domain sites: customsite1.boughtsite.com, customsite2.boughtsite.com, etc. 1. Is it possible to redirect everything from www.boughtsite.com to www.mycompanysite.com while leaving the other sub-domain sites active? These other sites have different audiences than our main site. 2. Would it be an okay solution to just place a link on boughtsite.com to mycompanysite.com telling visitors "We have been re-branded to My Company" 3. Can I use an i-frame to move customsite1.boughtsite.com to www.mycompanysite.com/customsite1 instead? Thanks for your input!
