Does having blog on subdomain weaken primary site's SEO?
-
I have a Joomla site with a WordPress subdomain that I'm wanting to use as a learning center. It's far more simple for new blog editors and publishers to learn that over Joomla. The issue I'm facing is trying to figure out rather having the blog put into the primary domain instead of a subdomain will hurt my ratings at all?
Where I got the idea that it may hurt ratings is due to how (from what I understand) search engines will see a subdomain slightly different than the primary domain.
Thank you for any help!
-
Agreed. I always install mine on the primary domain. Usually mydomain.com/news or mydomain.com/blog.
-
I don't use Joomla, so it would be best to check the documentation or ask someone who is experienced with that system.
-
If I'm not mistaken, it won't be possible for me to run WordPress site within Joomla if it's under the same domain.
I appreciate your response.

If the blog is in a folder on your primary domain then any links earned by the blog will directly benefit the primary domain. If the blog is on a subdomain then links that it earns will benefit the primary domain but the effect will not be as strong.
All of my blogs are on folders of the primary domain.
In late 2010 I redirected a couple of popular subdomains into folders of the primary and the rankings of the entire site went up.

Why is the blog link so often found in the footer?
Hello, Can someone tell me please why are the links to a site's blog not displayed prominently? Why are they hidden away in the footer? Wouldn't making the link to the blog more visible increase traffic?

Blog Posts
I have a blog as part of my business website...when I make a blog post, should I ALWAYS include a link in that post back to another page on my website? So every blog post has a link back to the site..or should I be intermittent on backlinks? Just wondering what the best practice is to help the site's SEO...

Thoughts on Evan Carmichael for Content Marketing & SEO?
We used to have a lot of success repurposing content through EvanCarmichael.com, but it seems like our articles are being de-indexed there very frequently now. I'd love to hear some others' opinions on Evan Carmichael and how worthwhile it is to keep publishing there. Thanks!

Embed WordPress blog into site or /blog?
Hi, Just a quick question - I assumed it would be a better to have a WordPress blog in a sub folder rather than a sub domain however I just wondered would it offer any more / less value if I just embedded the WordPress blog into my existing code? Thanks, Dan

Should a business blog be on a separate site or on the ecommerce site itself?
Hey there. I'm a new Pro member and this will be my first question on the Q&A. Thanks in advance for your responses. I'm the owner of an ecommerce site that sells custom candles. www.prometheancandle.com in case anyone wants to take a peak. I've become somewhat of an expert on all-things-candles over the past 4 years and I am thinking about starting a candle related blog. My question is this. Should I build this blog on the ecommerce site itself, say @ www.prometheancandle.com/blog.php, or should I devote a separate site to answering candle related question, history of candles, etc? At first, I was thinking that the blog should remain on the ecommerce site so readers would have easy access to the shop to be able to purchase products. But then it occurred to me that people who may be interested in reading up on candle history, candle making, meditation & candles, etc., may not want to go to an obviously ecommerce site to do that. I know Google values informational sites more than ecommerce sites (at least I think they do), so that encourages me to lean towards the separate site. Well, I may have just answered this question myself, but I'd definitely be interested to hear feedback and opinions. Thanks so much guys and I look forward to hearing from you.

Magento Multi Stores and seo
Hello all, im not that clued on SEO and only know the basics so please bear with me! I've just had built 5 different furniture retail websites, all of which will be selling the same products, but all priced differently and all of the sites will have different content etc on each one (4 of the 5 websites are on a multi store system with one back end on magento). The only thing that the 5 sites will have in common is the names of the products in the titles but all the content in the text and prices etc will all be different on each site, including articles and blogs… How will this sit with google in terms of rankings on each site? I know a lot of other companies that do this already and they all have good rankings on each site for their chosen keywords, the only difference between my scenario and theirs is 4 of my sites on the same back end which is mainly the ones i am concerned about… Any thoughts? thanks anthony
